Clinique Lash Power Mascara
Advantages: Eay to use, long lasting, good colour
Disadvantages: Expensive, not easy to remove
I have tried a million and one different mascaras over the years. Because I have fairly sensitive eyes and I do have a horrible habit of rubbing them, I have found that mascaras really irritate my eyes. So it was with some trepidation that I tried yet another one. To be fair, I got this free from a Clinique stand at a work exhibition recently, so if it was rubbish, it wouldn't be too big an issue. Turns out it wasn't a problem anyway, because the mascara is actually pretty good and I'll probably be buying it in future.
The mascara is in Clinique's usual understated and simple style in that it comes in a small and symmetrical black and silver tube. The size is pretty good because it fits comfortably into handbags and make up bags; I have used other mascaras that contain the same amount of liquid but are in much bigger and clumsier bottles than this one.
The mascara is available in two colours; black and dark chocolate. I have the black one and the colour is really dark and thick, which I love. It seems a bit of an obvious thing to say, but I have had them in the past that are a bit wishy washy and light and I have found that I have needed more than one coat. This is not so with the Clinique one because it only needs one coat to give a nice dark colour.
The brush is quite small which I think is actually much better. It is really easy to use and I find that, because it is so small, it is really easy to get really good coverage across my lashes. It is really maneuverable and I find that I can apply the mascara all the way around my lashes without too much effort. The mascara goes on really well and I haven't had any clumping at all with it.
I also find that I poke myself in the eye less with this brush (I do have a ridiculous tendency to do this, which probably explains the sensitivity!). I think that because it is smaller I can work out where it is more easily when applying mascara and I don't get it too close to my eyes.
The main selling point of the mascara is that it is long lasting and they claim that it will last up to 24 hours. I am usually weary about these kind of claims, but in this case I think the mascara has earned the bragging rights. I wear it mainly for work and I find that I tend to rub my eyes a lot at work, but there are no panda eyes in sight when I am wearing this one. It doesn't smudge at all and it does maintain the colour for a long time.
In fact the only problem with the mascara is that it is a little difficult to remove. You get usage instructions with the mascara and it advises that you should dab it off with bath temperature water. his is apparently because it uses thermal sensitive technology to keep it on for so long and to make it easy to remove. To be honest this is where it falls down a bit in my opinion. It isn't impossible to remove, but it is certainly more difficult than just throwing a bit of warm water in the direction of your eyes, as the instructions imply.
The mascara is available for around the £16 mark, which isn't cheap, but I think it is pretty good value for money. The mascara is easy to use and long lasting, which in turn will mean that the tube will last longer. I would definitely recommend the mascara because it is a good investment, rather than spending as much on lots of cheaper but inferior mascaras.
Summary: Worth splashing out on
