Clinique Long Last Lipstick
Advantages: Nice colours including very wearable naturals, smooth texture, doesn't dry lips
Disadvantages: Not as long lasting as I hoped
I am not a big lipstick lover as I often find that they can dry my lips out or they need to be constantly reapplied and touched up throughout the day, so I often prefer to use a lipgloss or a tinted lipbalm instead of a lipstick. However, I do have a couple of lipsticks which I like to use quite regularly and this is one of them!
=== Shades ===
I have the Clinique long last lipstick in the shade "Bamboo Pink" which is a soft neutral and natural looking pink colour. I like this shade as it is very easy to wear with my usual natural makeup and it does not look too dramatic or bold for day time wear. I think Bamboo Pink would definitely suit anyone who is on the paler side and worries that brighter colours can look a bit out of place next to their pale skin. I would recommend this colour but there are 20 shades to choose from in total, so there should be plenty for every taste and colouring. It is a good range including pale pinks, brighter pinks, reds, browns, corals etc including the new limited edition Runway Coral shade. There are swatches on the Clinique website, but I don't think the colours look very true to life as the swatch of Bamboo Pink does not really look the same as my lipstick, so I think it is worth trying them in person at a counter if at all possible, as you could be disappointed otherwise if the colour is not what you were expecting.
=== Wear ===
I apply this lipstick straight from the bullet rather than with a lip brush. It applies very smoothly and has a creamy texture. This is one of the things I love most about this lipstick. It feels quite rich and pleasant on the lips compared to a lot of other lipsticks which can feel harsh and drying.
The colour looks sheer on the lips, so it is not too heavy looking. It does not really look wet or glossy and has more of a matte finish, which looks nice, natural and not too made up. You can easily change the finish by putting clear lipgloss or balm over the top if you want to get a different look with this lipstick. I have found that this can look really nice (I often do it with Clinique Superbalm, Carmex or Burts Bees on top) and doing this doesn't dilute or remove the colour.
Clinique's product description promises that this lipstick "keeps its just-applied look for hours and hours. Won't feather, creep, stain, or dry out." I agree it definitely doesn't feather, creep, stain or dry out. It wears very evenly and my lips feel in good condition throughout and I don't suffer any dryness. As for the longevity, I would say it is quite good but not amazing. Considering the lipstick is called "Long Last" I was expecting the lasting power of it to be exceptional so maybe my hopes were too high! It lasts nicely for a good 4 or 5 hours but you can't just put it on in the morning and expect it to still be there in the evening. It will generally require 1 or 2 top ups during the day. It does completely disappear if you eat and drink a lot. To be fair it is only a lipstick and not a lip stain so you can't really expect miracles, but I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed that it doesn't last as long as I originally hoped.
As it is not as long lasting as I thought it would be, it is very easy to remove with makeup remover and doesn't leave any staining on the lips.
In conclusion, I do love this lipstick for its lovely natural colour and smoothness, but I have to take off a star as it does not last a long as I hoped.
This lipstick costs £16.
Summary: A lovely lipstick but it won't last all day
