I don't wear mascara on a regular basis but do like to use it when I am going out. Whilst browsing the Boots web site in search of a new mascara, I came across one with better than average reviews and so decided to give it a try. I have now used the mascara several times and have been so impressed I have decided to share my find with others!
The Clinique naturally glossy mascara comes in a very thin cardboard box. Inside is a small silver tube with the letter *c* on the top. The integral brush is a good length and coats my lashes with little effort on my part. I have tried numerous brands of mascara over the years and find some deposit far too much mascara onto the applicator brush. This Clinique mascara deposits just the right amount every time with no excess.
I am no expert at applying eye make up but find this mascara really easy to apply. It doesn't clump or flake and I find one coat is enough to make my lashes look longer and well defined without looking unnatural. I have also been impressed with the staying power of this mascara and even when I have rubbed my eyes it has stayed put without any smudging.
I have quite sensitive skin especially around my eye area so am pleased to report that this latest purchase has caused no irritation. I have even started wearing it during the day as it doesn't give me a heavy feeling around my eyes as many types of mascara do.
The mascara is not advertised as being waterproof, but as I have said it does stay on well. It is really easy to remove at the end of the day too. I use Boots eye make up remover with a cotton wool pad and find it comes off without having to scrub.
If you like really long dramatic lashes, then this may not be the mascara for you. I have experimented by applying several coats to see if it would build up my lashes but it really makes little difference. However if like me, you prefer a very natural look then this is well worth a try! I paid £16.50 for this mascara from Boots.com. It is also available in store for the same price.
I was looking for a new mascara on the boots website a few weeks ago, and I always go off the reviews, so when I came across this Clinique mascara, which had 5 stars from nearly every reviewer, I thought I'd give it a go. It cost a little more than I would normally pay, at £16. I am surprised it is that cheap now that I have used it, as it is a really nice mascara, and actually one of the best that I have used.
This is a small mascara, I was surprised when this arrived from Boots, it was very small, thinner and smaller than most mascaras, but not too tiny that it's hard to use. It came in a Clinique box, and the actual mascara tube is just a shiny silver colour. There is nothing on the tube at all, no pictures, no writing, so it look really boring, and it does not look expensive at all. You would never know know it was a decent make of mascara, unless you looked at the end and saw the logo. It looks boring in my make up bag, and they could have made it look at lot nicer for the price!
However, it doesn't matter what this mascara looks like, as I will still be buying it again and again no matter what! It really is one of the best I have used. I like the natural look, and this is perfect for me. It is no good if you want a mascara to wear on a night out, as this mascara really lives up to its name. It is supposed to look natural, and when I apply it to my eyelashes, I can tell I have got it on, as I know my eye lashes look a lot blacker, but other people would never know. It coats your lashes, but with such a thin layer, that it makes you lashes black, but not thick or heavy. It just makes your lashes look a nicer black. It doesn't really lengthen much, only slightly, but it does separate your eye lashes nicely.
The wand is nice to apply, thin but not too thin, and I have never had any clumps. Only a small amount comes off onto the brush, and you do have to dip it back in the tube a few times when you are applying this, as you don't get enough on the brush, this is the only thing I can fault it for. It feels really smooth to apply though, and coats your eye lashes really quickly. The wand shape makes it easy to apply to even your bottom lashes without smudging or putting too much on.
This definitely brightens up my eyes, I wear this during the day just for going out and about. This is a great everyday mascara, if you don't want to look like your wearing any make up. You really can't tell you have got it on! It looks so natural, you can't really put more layers on either to make your eyes look more made up, as it just doesn't come out thick enough, so you definitely can't use it to get made up for a night out. It is definitely only an everyday mascara.
It wipes off really easily with my make up wipes, and it never smudges or even needs touching up in the day. It still looks perfect at the end of the day. Even though the mascara is small, it still feels strong and sturdy, not at all flimsy. I will definitely be sticking with this mascara for everyday use for a long time, it is perfect for me, even though I think it is expensive, it is worth every penny for me. It is just what I was looking for, much better than cheaper mascaras out there, I would definitely recommend it!
Before finding this little gem I had long since given up on finding the right mascara for me. I have found that all I have used in the past have looked & felt too heavy & also seemed to have an aging effect on my eyes, I'm also not a great fan of the clumpy lash look & wanted a mascara that just looked natural. I was beginning to think that I was asking too much until I found myself at a Clinique counter in my local department store & after discussing my dilemma with one of the consultants she recommended the naturally glossy mascara. Costing £11 at the time (around 6 years back) I did think it was a little pricey for something that I thought would probably end up in the bin but being a bit of a sucker when it comes to cosmetics I bought it anyway! I chose jet brown as I am quite fair & the other colour available ( jet black) would have been too harsh for me. Before reaching home I was already regretting parting with my money as I was not too optimistic that this would be any different from those I'd tried before but decided that if this one failed my search for my perfect mascara would well & truly be over. However once I tried it I was more than pleasantly surprised, my search for my perfect mascara was indeed over because at last I had found it! The first thing I noticed is that it glides onto lashes very easily, also although the colour on the wand is brown, on the lashes it appears as a more very subtle non harsh looking black. It coats each lash perfectly without clumping & although it does not fatten lashes (which neither does it claim to or neither was I looking for) it does add colour & definition without heaviness. I'd say the effect it provides is more that of an eyelash tint & looks completely natural. It also washes off very easily. Needless to say I have never looked back & although the price is now a little more still think that it is very much worth this if you are looking for a natural looking mascara. As for packaging it comes in a slim silver classy looking container which itself comes in a slim box & currently costs £14.50 for 5.6g & is available in colours jet black & jet brown.
I don't necessarily like to have full on glam lashes during the day so I bought this as an attempt to not look like a spider all day. I bought this in Jet brown and it cost me £15, which I thought was ok for a mascara.
I really liked the brush, no fancy features just a bog standard applicator. The mascara was easy to apply and didn't leave any clumps. It separated and coated my lashes, lifting them and leaving them lovely and glossy. It also I thought made them look nice and natural, not like I was heading out for cocktails.
I found that it didn't run during the day and I didn't get the little bits some others leave all over your face. When it came to taking it off that was really easy, just a couple of wipes of my eye makeup remover pads. The next morning I didn't have panda eyes. So for me this mascara is a winner, but if you're looking for something that is a bit more high powered and glam I would go for one of the other mascaras in the Clinique range.
If I was stuck on a desert island and could only have one item of make-up it would be this product. It is just perfect for day wear or if you like a natural evening look. It goes on easily and makes my lashes look fuller and healthier without making it obviously I am wearing mascara. (Yes of course I am a natural beauty!) After a late night on Friday I find a quick application of this mascara makes me look wide awake and ready to face the world again. It also has the advantage of lasting well but being easy to take off at the end of the day. This avoids the dreaded panda eye syndrome the next morning! As my lashes are dark I prefer the black mascara but I have converted several of my blonde friends to the brown version. I have tried other mascaras which work well but none look as natural as this one. An ideal product for natural beauties!
Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara
I dont really have much trouble with my eyelashes, Im very dark-haired so I wouldnt say mascara would be top of the list of things I would take to a desert island with me. I know that to some women choose it as their 'number one couldnt live without item', but Id say mine would be blusher or bronzing powder of some kind. However, I would rule it out completely from my make up bag and its always good to accentuate what youve got... I mean isnt that why wonder bras were invented? If I were to take a particular type of mascara to a desert island with me though, it would definitely be this one.
I have tried many types of mascaras over time, and Im not usually a fan of Clinique (see my three step review), but when buying products for someone else I was given a freebie bag which indeed contained a small trial version of Cliniques naturally glossy mascara. So even though I am dubious about Clinique and their claims to make you beautiful, I figured it couldnt do any harm to try it out, it was free after all :o)
After a few days of wearing this mascara I had someone tell me how naturally long my eyelashes were, they couldnt believe it when I told them I was actually wearing mascara. You see, this mascara is so light that even after a few coats it doesnt look obvious that you are wearing any makeup. It doesnt clump unless you cake it on (which would happen with any mascara, they key is in the application), isnt that the idea of make-up after all, to look like your not wearing any when you actually are? So Number 1, YES this mascara lives up to the claims of being natural.
Moving on to glossy, Id say the word to describe this mascara after applying it would be glossy, it makes your lashes stand out with a kind of shine-like quality. It also doesnt go flaky and dry because of the glossy texture. It stays put on your eyelashes after all sorts, I even find it difficult to remove all of the mascara with eye make up remover, and Ive often woken up in the morning with the remains still around my eyes, and had to repeat the eye make up removal in the morning.
According to the Clinique website you can only purchase this mascara in two colours, Jet Black (which is what I use), and Jet Brown, but Im pretty sure (it was a while ago though) when I bought my mascara there was more than two shades to choose from.
I think that my favourite part of this mascara is the brush, its just the right size, and its quite bushy so it gathers most lashes after a single coat. The brush seems to almost lift the lashes, almost as if youve used an eye lash curler.
I also, really like the silver packaging, it is really nice to have on your dressing table and its classy because it doesnt have names scrawled all over it. It merely has a little sticker on the bottom of the tube that details what the name of the mascara is and the colour. I have to point out though that the lovely silver tube doesnt stay lovely after a while, after about 6 months in my makeup bag it is looking a little worse for wear, its slightly dented and scratched, but it still looks glamorous!
This mascara retails at about £12.50, but Id say well worth it as it lasts ages, Ive had mine for well over six months and its only now starting to run out. Another thing to point out is that I havent noticed much of a drop in quality in the mascara over time. Most mascaras have to be thrown out before youve reached the bottom of the tube as they start to get hard and become clumpy and flaky when you apply them to your lashes. I can honestly say I havent noticed this with this mascara, and Id recommend it to anyone. When used with eye lash curlers this gives an even better effect.
I've never paid for it. I don't have to. I'm such a loyal customer I get freebies! OK, enough of the cheap inuendos, I'll come clean. I'm talking about Clinique's most basic mascara. I've yet to know of a 'Bonus Time' giveaway promotion from Clinique that hasn't included one of these marvels. The truth is though that it was quite some time before I actually tried it. I was a stickler for my old lash building waterproof, bulletproof one, and it wasn't until this ran out and I needed one, quick (!) that I bothered to give it a go. Well, I'm a convert. Unless I'm going swimming, or out in the rain with no brolly (both somewhat rare occurances), this one does just fine thanks. The consistency of the mascara is so smooth, it simply refuses to clump, regardless of layers. What a novelty! A really natural result every time - perfect for the heavy handed. Another big advantage, is that true to Clinique's brand, it won't irritate sensitive eyes and doesn't flake off, so is fine for contact lense wearers. Because it isn't volumising, lengthening or waterproof, it's basic formula makes it a breeze to wash off at the end of the day. No scrubbing and no pulling means less wear and tear on your most fragile features (your eyes), so you could say it has anti-wrinkle properties! The packaging is sweet and simple. Pale green for the free ones and silver (I think!) for the ones that you pay for. Pretty stylish really. I don't know what more you can ask for. Yes, it is more expensive than other brands, but still one of the cheapest things from Clinique. Either use it as your second choice to get a Bonus Time gift (buy two items - one skincare - and get eight little darlings free), or choose something else and get the mascara for free - like me.
As a contact lense wearer I have had a certain amount of trouble finding a mascara that I am happy with. They can't be waterproof as the only way to get this type off is with oil based cleansers and these make my lenses smeary. They can't have any bits in so this knocks out all the mascaras that promise longer thicker lashes as they all have fibres in. As you can imagine this doesn't leave many to choose from. The other criteria that they must fulfil is to stay on and not go all smudgy if a contact lense crisis should ensue and has to be taken out for a wash. Well I am pleased to announce that my search is over ! YAY! My prayers have been answered in the form of Clinique's naturally glossy mascara range. This mascara goes on nice and smoothly leaving no clumps and has a lovely brush that separates lashes but doesn't make them look all spidery. It stays on through lense disasters but comes off easily, leaving no remnants for the next morning, with only a bit of oil free cleanser and a cottom wool pad. A brilliant all round mascara with a natural looking result.
