I bought the Clinique quickliner for eyes in really black, a plain black matt shade. The packaging is the usual stylish patterned outer cardboard box with the Clinique logo. The eyeliner itself is a pencil shape with a lid covering the end with the pigmented applicator, and a small sponge for blending the eyeliner at the opposite end of the pencil.
The actual eyeliner is not really a pencil as such, but a thin stick of colour with a twist up mechanism and so doesn't require sharpening. The consistency of the eyeliner is a creamy kohl texture, which applies quite smoothly although does occasionally drag slightly on the skin. The colour can take a couple of attempts to build up a strong line. The blending sponge is easy to use and blurs the edges of the line subtly so that the look is a bit more of a smoky eye than a bold line.
Unfortunately the eyeliner is not particularly long lasting - it doesn't seem to stay in place very well and leaves smudge marks under the eyes after a couple of hours. My other complaint is that with the style of the packaging, it is very difficult to tell when you are coming to the end of the pencil so you could run out abruptly. Personally I prefer a shorter pencil as it is more portable. For the price of the quickliner I would expect a longer lasting product.
I received this as a freebie. I don't normally wear a lot of eye liner as it usually irritates my eyes causing them to itch the next day. But as this was free I decided to give it a go.
Due to me not wearing it much I'm not that adept at applying eyeliner so I was very impressed how easy this was. It just took a gentle stroke of the pen against my eye for a smooth line to appear. The lighter the stroke the finer the line. At one point my hand 'jumped' and the line went a little crooked but it was very easy to remedy as the unwanted liner easily came off with a cotton bud. All in all it only took a couple of minutes to apply subtle eyeliner to both eyes and the result looked very professional. It was easy to remove with my usual makeup remover and didn't require the 'scrubbing of the eyes' that sometimes seems necessary with other eyeliners I've tried.
The only disappointment for me was that my eyes were a little itchy the next day but I think that just me. That said I would still use the product again and will most likely buy a replacement once my freebie has run out.
