“ Brand: Collection 2000 / Type: A strengthening top coat which not only strengthens but helps protect your nail colour / Suitable for: Nails „
I suffer from really weak nails, when they get wet they tend to bend. I have tried a number of nail strengthening treatments and I hadn't found one that actually worked. While browsing in Boots I came across this Collection 2000 2 in 1 nail strengthener. A bottle contains 12ml and costs £2.99.
The nail polish appears purple in the bottle. The polish has added calcium to strengthen nails. It is also a 2 in 1 so it can be used alone or under polish to strengthen nails.
The nail polish is really easy to apply. The brush is the right size to coat the nail in just 2 strokes. The polish dries really quickly I would say in less than a minute. This is great for me as I hate waiting around for polish to dry.
After the polish had dried it made my nails look really glossy and shiny. It definately made a difference to my nails, it made then feel reinforced and when I got out of the bath or finished washing up my nails didn't bend or feel weak. I had the nail polish on for a couple of days and it didn't chip off even after washing the dishes and doing all kinds of daily jobs around the house.
I was so far impressed with this polish, however I swim 5 days a week and as soon as I got out of the pool the nail polish was peeling and flaking off. In the past when I have used more expensive brands this doesn't happen. Another problem I found was that the polish became gloopy and thick, this was only after a few weeks of use. This meant that the polish took longer to dry and was difficult to apply.
All in all I would give this 3 out of 5 stars. It is fairly good for the price, however I have used other more expensive brands such as Nails Inc that are far superior and last a lot longer.
I have to admit that I love Collection 2000 for bargain buys of products which I think tend to work really well. I like to try out their products, and I'm really glad that I gave this one a go, as its pretty cheap and also a really good product! I now apply this product to my nails both before and after I apply a coloured nail varnish. Since I have started using this product, i have found two dramatic changes in how my nails look, both with and without nail varnish.
My nails (without varnish) now chip and split much less than they used to, as I have quite weak nails which used to do this quite often, so I guess the strengthening part of the product works for me!
This product has also reduced the amount of times my nail varnish chips, and it really does help to lock in the colour and help my nails stay looking nice for quite a lot longer.
The product has a good texture and is really easy to apply, and takes hardly any time to dry either!
I like to take care of my nails and have them at what I deem to be a decent length. Only with my hands (and therefore nails) often being wet through cleaning, the chlorinated water in the local pool (I like to swim at least once a week, sometimes more), doing the odd bits of gardening here and there, and just general wear and tear my nails begin to suffer and get a little chipped and a little 'flakey'. When I first tried Collection 2000 nail strengthener I was in uni, and funds were pretty tight. I didn't want to spend out on a more expensive brand.
So, what exactly is this product and what is my opinion?
The product is a 2 in 1 strengthener, with hardener and added calcium. The strengthener comes in a clear 12ml bottle with a pearly white lid. The consistency of the liquid means that it is easy to apply without being too gloopy or too runny, which is brilliant as I find some nail varnishes tend to be really messy due to consistency issues. Simply apply as you would any other nail varnish - using the three stroke rule (one stroke down the middle, then one each side) works really well. Once applied, it takes a couple of minutes to dry completely and gives a shine to my nails. Not only does it look nice, it actually does what it is meant to do. My nails definitely benefit. They are much stronger, and are not flakey. They don't chip or break easily, and actually are quite useful 'tools' when doing some simple tasks such as opening plastic bags (think the type that frozen veg comes in). Before, doing something like that could have been enough to break or damage a nail so meant I had to hunt out a pair of scissors, but after using this nail strengthener my nails cope with all sorts, and I have no problem with things like the gardening or the fact that my hands are in water a lot.
Another positive to this product aside from it's main function, is that it works brilliantly as a base coat too. If you like to wear darker colours on your nails it prevents any staining.
A 12ml bottle lasts quite a while. It also doesn't go gloopy. I did find an old old bottle of this the other day (a good 3 or 4 years old that had a small amount left in it) which had gone a bit icky and gloopy, but in a normal circumstances in the lifetime of a bottle of this stuff you are not going to have this problem. One bottle will normally last me a good 6 months or so, at least.
Collection 2000 products are available in Superdrugs, Tesco and Boots, but may also be available elsewhere. I bought my latest bottle of this from Superdrug when it was priced at £2.99, but it was also in a 3 for 2 offer so I also treated myself to a couple of new colours of nail varnish. This was a couple of months ago now, but I see this offer about every so often so keep a look out. Even if you buy it individually, full price, I would definitely recommend giving it a go. I have recommended this to friends in the past, including my mum, a previous Sally Hansen user. Now converted, they are getting just as good results (if not better!) for a much cheaper price.
Every once in a while I come across a make up product which becomes a bit of a must-have. As I'm sure you can guess if you have read any of my other reviews I love painting my nails and giving into my nail varnish and nail art obsession. I stumbled across this particular product because I couldn't get hold of Sally Hansen's hard as nails. If I am honest I wanted something cheap in case it didn't work, that would get me by until I could get hard as nails, but I am pretty pleased I chose this.
Collection 2000's 2in1 strengthener and hardener is part of their nail care range it is a clear liquid with added calcium for strength, and can be found in-store on the rack alongside the French manicure colours and top coats. I know it is deffinatly available in Tesco and Boots with Superdrug also being a collection 2000 stockist. It comes in collection 2000's usual clear 12ml bottle with a white lid.
The cost for the product is around the £2.99 but there are quite often good deals on such as 3 for 2 so keep an eye out for a real bargain.
I am completely in love with this product I like to use it over my nail varnish as a top coat and the final layer before my nails rock the world. To me my nails feel stronger due to their length (my longest nails are about from cuticle to tip) they have a tendency to sometimes bend when under pressure and this happens less when wearing this strengthener.
There is yet another advantage (or superpower) I have found to this product that you don't see on the write up for it. If this is applied over my usual nail varnish or nail art I find it lasts twice as long even whether it's over Barry M's nail effects or just a lick of your favourite colour.
I believe this is just as good as Sally Hansen's but at around half the cost and who doesn't love saving money. This item is perfect if you already have long nails but even better if you are looking to grow your nails as it gives that little added helping hand. It also has a fantastic shine and gloss so makes your nails that little more eye catching.
At the low price for this great product it is deffinatly worth a try ....go on let your nails have that extra strength they deserve.
