Collection 2000 Hot Looks Nail Polish
Advantages: Price, colours
Disadvantages: Doesn't last, peels off, not very nice to apply.
We have a huge load of different nail varnishes in our home, especially as my younger sister is now at that age where makeup is the best thing in the world.
I tend to be buying a silly amount of nail varnishes from just about everywhere, so when I bought a few from the collection range, it wasn't because I really 'needed' them, it was simply because the colours were a slightly different shade to any we have haha.
The nail varnishes from the collections range can be bought in a variety places, including Tesco's which is in fact where I purchased ours.
When we bought ours a few months ago, they were prices at around £1.80 per varnish but on a 3 for 2 offer.
This can also be bought in Boots and superdrug for around the same price.
The price isn't bad considering it against others which can go up to a fiver just for one pot of varnish! However having said this, I probably wouldn't pay more than what I paid for a nail varnish from this brand as I don't like much of their other makeup or beauty products.
I can say, Collections do quite a good range of colours which I haven't seen throughout any other brands.
I picked up three colours- Lilac-Dynasty, yellow- Lemon soda and a sort of soft green called Mint Mojo. I wouldn't usually go for such wild colours, but to be fair I did expect these to come out quite light and watery sort of the varnish I prefer to use on my nails.
I also like how there are various shades of certain colours available rather than there being just one shade of blue etc.
The range includes;
Show Off- Blue
Bongo Beat- A lighter Blue
Mint Mojo- Light green
Blue Hawaii- Blue
Teeny Bikini- Purple
Fruit Salad- Pink
Parma violet- Violet
Hip Hop- Orange
Big hair- Red
Spangles- Lime Green
BMX Bandit- Blue
Button Moon- Light Blue
Hoola hoop- Pink
Lemon Soda- Yellow
Fruit Loop- Pink
Candy Floss- Pink
Angel Wings- Light blue
Siren- Dark Pink
The variety may vary depending on where you shop, but I personally think the range is quite good. In fact if there was a tempting offer on one day, I may be tempted to try some more of the range as they are handy to keep in for those 'one off' occasions needing a nail varnish to match the outfit.
***Quality & Using***
These nail varnishes come in pots of 8ml which is about average, although I can't comment on how well one pot lasts as I no longer use my selection for reasons I will mention!
The pots are good enough to keep in to wear for occasions, but as I like to apply a nail varnish and have it last for at least a week, these nail varnishes certainly aren't my favourite.
When applying, I instantly disliked the quality of these varnishes. I can't actually tell if its the quality of the paint, or the rough material of the brush, but I did find it tricky to apply.
When trying to apply onto my nails, one stroke instantly showed gaps and lines on my nails from what looked like brush marks. The thickness of the paint also doesn't do much good either as when trying to smooth over the paint, the varnish becomes clumpy and for me it was impossible to get a smooth surface without any gaps.
Because of this, I had to apply two layers to fill in the gaps and a few of my nails look as if they had grinds of sand under the paint.
To be fair, when applying this varnish, it actually felt like I was painting wall paint onto my nails!
One good thing I have noticed with these varnishes compared to others from other brands is that the paint actually comes out just like you can see it in the bottle and it doesn't change colour when drying.
The drying time wasn't too bad and was probably prolonged with me needing to apply two layers. However I don't think the dry time was very good considering this paint is called 'fast dry'.
The day after applying my nail varnish, I went for a day at the seaside. Half way through the day, after having been for dinner and a little shopping, I noticed the varnish had peeled away at a lot of my nails and my nails were left looking hideous! I hadn't even been on the beach or using my hands for anything rough, so I really couldn't understand why my varnish had peeled away half way down my nails.
I ended up having to peel the rest of the varnish off, which fortunately was very easy and my nails looked plain again with no excess left around them.
The fact that the varnish peeled away throughout the day and was easily peeled away disappointed me.
A few of my nails left with varnish on actually hardened up the second day which possibly means the varnish hardens after a few days, but for me this isn't good enough! And even when hardened better, it is still easy to peel away.
I won't recommend these nail varnishes for anybody wanting a long lasting, easy to apply nice effective nail varnish. However I do think they are just about suitable enough for those one off occasions where you only need the varnish to last for the night out.
Some of the colours in the range are kind of wild, like the yellows and lime greens. These colours for me would only be worn if they matched an outfit for an occasion and I wouldn't wear it for any day to day activities.
So, overall this nail varnish is...
* Tricky to apply
*Doesn't last long
Yet it is;
*True to its colour
*Wide range available.
