Collection Cover & Go Foundation Concealor Duo
Advantages: Gives good medium coverage, blends to a natural look, evens skin tone, mirror included
Disadvantages: Relatively small amount of concealer supplied, mirror is tiny, doesn't stay put all day
I used to think that Collection 2000 products were not very impressive but recently I feel they have improved in quality. They also seem to offer more cosmetics than before. In particular they have several new foundations and powders available and I wanted to give one a try. I couldn't decide which to go for but in the end I decided to opt for their Cover & Go Foundation and Concealer Duo because it was on offer for £3.99 on Amazon, with the RRP being £5.99. [35ml] This meant that I ordered it based on just the colour swatch available online and the shades name "Ivory". I wouldn't normally risk doing that, but at the price I was willing to take a chance on the fact the colour would suit me.
This product is a duo in the sense that there is both a cream concealer and liquid foundation in the packaging. The foundation is in a squeezy tube and the concealer is a little pot sitting in the twist off cap. The lid of that flips up to reveal a small mirror on the inside. I liked the idea of carrying one product instead of two and the mirror seemed a nice touch although not essential to me as I have a separate and larger one permanently in my cosmetics purse anyway. In fact the supplied mirror is small - about the size of a 2p coin so it is only good for focusing on a particular area rather than getting an overall look at your face. For that reason I haven't used it as much as I thought I would.
Collection [as Collection 2000 have now decided to call themselves], claim the foundation will give you a "flawless glow" while the concealer will hide dark circles and imperfections. There are 6 shades available, with my Ivory being the lightest. I have pale skin so that is the colour I usually opt for.
When I first saw the foundation I thought that I had made the wrong colour choice as it looked worrying orange toned. I applied it apprehensively but I was truly surprised at how well it actually blended into my skin. There were no horrible tell tale tide marks either. It is described as a liquid foundation but it is thicker and creamier than some I have used. This is to it's advantage though as it is less potentially messy to apply on the go. It is easy to smooth across the skin and feels pleasantly light once on.
I was particularly keen to see how it covered the area of my face around my nose where I have large pores. It gave excellent coverage there, and more importantly didn't block the pores which would just lead to problems later on. It also gave reasonable coverage to my dark circles when used alone but I did need to use quite a lot to achieve that. My oil prone forehead looked smoother and more even coloured too. I sometimes find that using liquid foundations there makes the area look shinier eventually and I have to rely on powder more than I would normally. However, the Collection foundation gave me a much more matte appearance and I didn't need to powder over it although I often decided to do so to help the foundation last longer. Overall, I would call this a medium coverage product. My skin doesn't quite look flawless but it doesn't look "cakey" either. I found that I needed to re-apply it before the end of the work day, but only on the oilier t zone parts, so if your skin is different you may get it to last all through.
The concealer is a very small tub - I estimate that it is about half a cm deep and a bit smaller than a 10p piece in diameter. As it is creamy and soft, I found myself using it up quickly and it was gone long before the foundation which is a shame. It is a good quality product - it blends easily and does a better job than the foundation at disguising dark circles. If used under the eyes that way it seemed to last a little longer if I didn't apply the foundation too. Either way it did need to be topped up in the afternoon. It works well to hide red marks and it didn't sit on the top of a full on spot making it stand out which is always a plus! It is like, the foundation perfectly easy to remove at the end of the day.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THE DUO?
I did like both products but they didn't wow me. They did a good basic job but I would have preferred them to last longer on my skin. I also found that I got through the tube faster than I thought I would - I think I have used more of the foundation in particular, to gain good coverage in more problem areas. This makes the small tube seem less good value for money than the low price would suggest. I would still recommend it as a perfectly good light and medium coverage foundation but I wouldn't buy it solely for the novelty of having the concealer in the lid as it is unlikely to last as long as the foundation does. I feel that I would personally like to try another Collection foundation that is cheaper as I may be paying more for what they call their "dual pack technology".
If you would like to try it for yourself, Amazon still have it on offer with free delivery for £3.99 at the time of writing. Otherwise buy it from the likes of Superdrug, Boots, and Wilkinsons where you will pay £5.99 but the brand always seems to be on offer somewhere.
Summary: A reasonable product but I needed to use more than average for good results
