Advantages: gorgeous shimmering effect, beautiful colours, smells gorgeous too
Disadvantages: only six shades so far
I hold in my hand something which is beautiful. It is small, it has to be said, but perfectly formed. It’s a strange purple kind of colour, which stains my mouth when used. Now, take that smirk off your face! You know I mean lipstick ;-) Yes, after my brief flirtation with Catherine Cookson, I’m back in my beloved lifestyle category with yet another opinion on an Avon product. But don’t sigh or yawn or clutch your head in despair. For this time, it is an item of such brilliance, everyone must know about it. Let me take you back a couple of months. I was sat browsing through an Avon brochure (catalogue, if you’re common like me!) and even though I knew I didn’t really need any more make-up, I fell in love… with the new Colour Optix Dimensional Lip Colour. I love purple. I love glittery, sparkly, spangly things. Imagine my delight when I saw a picture of a beautiful pair of lips tinted a wondrous shade of purple and promising oodles of shimmer and shine. The fact it was £1.50 off its usual price was a plus point too. Somehow my fingers grabbed hold of a pen and I almost subconsciously wrote in my order. I must have been completely carried away, because the lipstick only cost £3.50 and my total order was over £20. Oh dear. So a few weeks later, my package arrived and I took out the lipstick. The packaging is nice, but effective. It’s a totally round, cylindrical tube, three inches long. It is dark blue with a silver band round the middle. It is available in six colours so far – destiny (a dark purple), mirage (a dark purple-red), elixir (the one I chose), thrill (an orange-red colour), beam (a pink-red) and rapture (red). The colours are quite hard to describe though, because of this new Colour Optix effect which means the lipstick shines different colours on the lips. This is really something you need to try yourself. I bought the elixir one, which is such
a beautiful shade of purple. When you open up the lipstick, you are hit by a gorgeous smell – my daughter described it as popcorn, but I’m not sure what it reminds me of, only that it’s lovely and I could happily sniff it for ages! So that’s an advantage, as usually lipsticks don’t have much of a fragrance. When you twist the lipstick up, you can see it catching the light. It seems to be metallic at times, glittery at others. However, I have bought lipsticks before which look amazing in the tubes, but come out onto your lips as just a boring, dull colour. Thankfully, this lipstick is different. It has a lovely unique effect on your lips and does as the brochure promises. It is easy to apply, it’s just an old fashioned kind of lippy, without any fancy (fiddly) wands or applicators. It feels creamy and soft on your lips. The tube twists up and snaps securely shut too, so it’s unlikely to open in your bag and get damaged. Now I am a glittery, shiny kind of girl. I love lip gloss and sparkles, I often wear glitter. But this lipstick has its own shimmering effects, so I don’t need any glitter or gloss at all. The elixir shade shines a beautiful pinky-purple colour, with the light catching it differently, each time my lips move. It doesn’t crease or smudge and looks professional, no matter how rushed you are. This lipstick scores highly on every point. It lasts well too. I have worn it to work almost every day since buying it, and it is the only one of my lipsticks that is still visible at the end of the day. If you wear a lipstick sealant like Lipcote over it, it lasts even better. So, to sum up – the packaging is lovely, the smell is divine, the range of colours is pretty good (hopefully, more will be added soon), the effects are wonderful and it lasts well. It usually sells at £5, but is on offer for £3.50 at the moment. I’
m in love. This is it - my perfect partner. Who ever thought I’d settle for three inches? ;-)
