Advantages: Good quality formula and well pigmented
Disadvantages: £10.00 is a little steep, nothing special
I came across this eyeliner a few weeks ago while browsing the ASOS sale page and decided to buy one to try as I was curious if it was actually any good or not seeing as I've never tried any other cosmetics from Dainty Doll, which is the name of Nicola Robert's make-up line. The eyeliner is available from a range of shops and online retailers including Boots, Very and Amazon. It retails at £10.00, however I managed to get mine for £7.60 in the ASOS sale, which I feel is a more sensible price; £10.00 is a little overpriced for a kohl eyeliner in my opinion!
The eyeliner pencil comes in a black box which has the brand and product name written on it and there's a cartoon picture of a doll with big red hair wearing quite a sexy outfit. The box is okay, but I don't feel that it adds anything to the product - with MAC the boxes that the eyeliners and lipsticks come in are very good quality and they make the product seem that bit more special, whereas this box is pretty average. The pencil itself is long and slender and it weighs 4g. It's black with elegant golden writing on the side which says the brand and product name as well as the shade number.
There's a swatch on the end of the pencil which is handy as it makes it easy to spot in my make-up bag. The pencil's nib is protected by a plastic lid which is easy to remove and it stays on securely. The eyeliner is available in five shades - black, light brown, dark brown, teal and purple, so there's plenty of choice. I have the eyeliner in 'I'm so pretty' which is dark brown, and I really like it - it's intense with nice warm tones.
The eyeliner is described by the manufacturers as being perfect for adding strong definition to the eyes or creating a sexy smoky-eyed effect. They also state that it defines and enhances the eyes. The eyeliner is made with a range of nourishing ingredients including vitamin E, castor oil and vegetable oil and it is very soft and creamy and the finish is always nice and smooth with a very slight non-greasy tint. Although the texture is so soft, it's pretty sturdy and it doesn't give way if I apply a bit of pressure to the pencil while applying it. The pigment is flawless and it is very striking.
It is subtle enough for daytime wear with one stroke and it is buildable. It has a nice thick consistency but it doesn't feel heavy or greasy on my waterline. This is accurate enough for cat-eyes (the eyelid flick) and it stays in place. It has a very slight moisture to it which I like and unless I deliberately smudge it, it stays in place. I've found that it starts to go patchy and greyish brown towards the end of the day, resulting in unattrative panda eyes. The lasting power is good though (around 10hrs) and it is very quick and easy to remove. The pencil is easy to sharpen despite how soft and creamy the nib is.
Overall, recommended!
