Advantages: Moisturises lips at an affordable price
Disadvantages: Feels a little heavy on application
I am prone to dry and cracking lips, which was at its worst earlier this year when the UK suffered sub-zero temperatures. Whilst I use a moisturising lipstick I found it was not effective enough for the constant splitting of my lips, particularly in the corners where it was very sore and hurt each time I opened my mouth. My hubby's response was for me to keep my mouth shut! I use a few brands of lip salves; one of which is Derma Intensive and this review discusses the Original.
The appearance of the product is almost identical to that of a lipstick although it's slightly fatter. Unlike other brands I'm familiar with the tight fitting lid is almost the entire length of the product and conveniently clicks into place, as opposed to a small cap on the end, which can sometimes fall off. The lip salve is a pearly white in colour and odourless, which is something I find favourable as whilst I like a minty fragrance I do not wish to wear it on my lips. To use, the lower side of the unit needs to be slowly turned in a clockwise direction to enable the product to retract from the tube.
I need to use slight pressure when applying the balm to my lips to enable them to be effectively coated. I'm not a huge fan of this lip balm as it feels slightly sticky and unlike lipstick that I can totally forget about, I am able to feel the product on my lips. I would describe it as being slightly heavy, but I believe this is due to the fact that this balm is intensive, as opposed to a normal balm. I favour wearing colour on my lips, but due to the consistency of this product it is difficult for my lipstick to be applied on top. Consequently, this is a product I tend to use on those days that I am in the house and do not wish to wear lipstick.
This is definitely an effective lip balm and it serves its purpose well in protecting my lips from the elements and preventing them from drying out. In addition, I find that they are always soft and smooth. I find that it easily wears away, particularly as I am always drinking water, so it is necessary to keep applying. My Derma Intensive Original was part of a pack where I received two of the Original and an Aloe Vera and at the time of writing you can purchase one of these packs from Tesco for just £1.20, which is excellent value for money at only 40p per lip balm.
I cannot fault this product as it is extremely effective and assists in keeping my lips in tip top and kissable condition. It receives a recommendation from me together with five stars.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
