One to avoid at all costs.

For birthday this year I received a number of Diego Dalla Palma make-up items from a friend. Having never heard of the brand before I was unsure what to expect however I quickly gathered high expectations of the items I received. I can only find the brand available in Debenhams and Marks & Spencers where this eye pencil costs £14 which gives me the impression that this product would be one of high quality with very good results. Having had tried this out on a number of occasions over the last six or seven weeks I have been left rather disappointed though.

The eye pencil comes in nine different shades being black, dark brown, navy blue, light brown, ivory, violet, mud, turquoise and emerald green. So where you prefer a natural highlighting eye pencil or vibrant colourful one, you can probably find a shade you like here. The pencil comes in a long rectangular black and white box which has the Diego Dalla Palma logo and shade printed on it. Opening the box reveals the eye pencil itself. It's around seven inches long and your usual thin, cylinder shape. The black pencil has white writing printed onto it again displaying the brand logo, product name and shade. There's a black lid covering the tip of the pencil to protect it and it overall looks rather pleasant and fairly pricey in my opinion.

The pencil is very soft and does glide onto my eye area with relative ease and I never feel the need to go over the area more than twice. It doesn't irritate my waterline or anything either which is good news. That is where the good news stops though. Whilst initial application is very nice and pleasing it's all downhill from there!

My first issue with this eye pencil is that the black shade is more of a dark grey. Whilst that may seem like a pedantic thing to pick up on I really do insist that my black eye liners are jet black and I do feel it makes all the difference. I don't like anything lighter as I don't feel it looks as good and I do get annoyed when black eye liners are not actually black. This is, however, something most eye liners of guilty of and I could forgive it if the overall results were good. Unfortunately they are not.

The eyeliner smudges extremely quickly. The first time I wore this I applied it just before I left the house for work, when I got to work and caught sight of myself in the toilet mirrors less than an hour later I shocked to find myself with panda eyes. I thought perhaps I had just sweated the eyeliner off as I do walk to work and I gave it another go the next day just sat around in my house. I got the same results. Within an hour the thin, defined line of eyeliner has smudged and faded and with bits closer to my cheeks than my eyes. This has happened every single time I've worn the eyeliner and I was pretty persistent with it! I have, however, since given up with it entirely.

The results mimic a Rimmel eyeliner I had which I remember at the time saying was a complete waste of money and that one was only £5. £14 for this is almost daylight robbery as far as I'm concerned and I certainly would not recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of eye pencils on the market which cost a fraction of this one and produce much better results and this one is definitely one to avoid.
