Dior Five Couleurs Eye Shadow Palette
Eye Shadow Set presented as flat pressed powder eye shadow in a palette compact with 2 double ended applicators and with a nice mirror encompassed within the lid.
Packaged in a cardboard box and cellophane outer with an instruction for application card at the bottom.
The powder set is contained within a nice blue plastic compact. On first opening the power is covered with a layer of clear film to protect the powder in transit and ensure that it arrives in pristine condition. Which it does, the powder is pressed with a pattern rather than being presented flat.
I love Dior products and Dior is always on my Christmas and Birthday list! I first tried a Five Couleurs set when the counter was running a promotion. By buying a perfume I obtained a lovely make up bag with several items of make-up worth more than the price of the perfume.
I like that type of offer and I like the even more when I am in a position to take advantage of them. However, I do find that eye shadow lasts such a long time, that it is worth paying that bit more to use a quality product. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the time I use other brands such as Avon, Body Shop or Rimmel, but whichever one I use it does seem to last for a very long time, meaning that the cheaper products probably only cost pennies per application.
When I collected my pack the helpful counter assistant selected the products to suit me and she did a very good job doing so, the eye shadow set chosen for me was "Stylish Move" Dior code 970 and it certainly suits me very well indeed. The colours are purple, mauve, pink, beige and a central block of highlighter. I have tried the various colours in different combinations and different ways, when I use a lighter colour in summer, the dark purple, works well as an eye liner, for a night out the dark purple used with black eye liner give a dark, smokey eyed look that works well for a night out. I even use the lighter beige as an eye liner when using the (what I consider) summer colours. This is a versatile kit to take on holiday, each set is designed to ensure plenty of options for wear.
The colour is really nice, the powder does not drop or flake when applied and they blend well together. The eye shadow does not slip in hot humid weather like many others do and the colour lasts, looking as good at 6pm as it did at 7am. I do have sensitive eyes and I have never had a problem when using the Five Couleurs set.
There is a nice subtle fragrance to the set as well, although barely discernible I think it is Diorissmo.
I usually apply eye make up with a long handled brush and I do tend to reach for my brush as usual with this product. However, when I take it on holiday, I use the brushes supplied and they are actually four little foam pads on plastic stalks, covered with a stainless steel band incorporating the Dior logo. I find these foam brushes work well enough, I just need a separate eye liner brush if using part of the set as eyeliner. They are really handy for blending, they wash well in warm water and dry quickly.
The eye shadow cleans off easily too, with a make-up remover.
I am sure this product will suit anyone who wants a professional finish to their make-up. Dior don't do subtle very well, but the colours are good quality and I reckon there is a right palette out there to suit everyone.
CONCLUSION & STARS:
I love this make-up and would use it all the time if I were married to a footballer! However, as it performs so well, lasts so well and so long, I do believe it represents value for money and it proves you get what you pay for. Quality product.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: Usual price is from £40.00. Available from Dior stockists nationwide.
The Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette is a gorgeous eye shadow compact that contains everything you need to make various looks. I have been using it for a few years now as my main eyeshadow when I am putting on full make up to go out (I don't tend to bother with eyeshadow for an everyday look as I don't have time in the morning!)
The compact comes in several different colour and look combinations and I have got 841 Garden Roses edition. This was a limited edition which came out last year, as each year Dior releases more varieties of the palette.
The packaging of the blusher is gorgeous like most Dior products and it comes in a dark blue and silver compact with an internal mirror in a blue velour pouch. Inside there are 5 different eyeshadow colours in pretty quadrants and the version that I have also had flowers embossed on the eyeshadows (although this tends to be worn down when you use the shadow) The compact also contains two double ended applicators which means that you can use an applicator end for most of the eyeshadows without smudging the colours.
The colours are soft pinks and lilacs with a darker purple colour in the center of the palette. A few of the colours have a soft shimmer to them and the overall look is very pretty and silky. You can use the colours in lots of different combinations and the eyeshadow can be used quite gently or built up for a more intense look. Dior recommend that you apply the lightest shade to the inside corner of the upper eyelid and a darker shade along the upper lash line. To finish, add a third colour to the corner of the middle lid and, for intensity and emphasis, apply another shade under the lower lash line.
I find that the colour goes on my eyes smoothly and is easy to apply and work with. Once on it tends to last for several hours although it does begin to fade.
The price of the compact is expensive at about £40 from stores such as Boots and Debenhams, but I find that it lasts me a few years. As it is so versatile you can create lots of different looks with it so I would definitely recommend it as value for money.
