I have the shortest, stubbiest eyelashes in the world ever, and so mascara is an essential item for me, especially one that will make my lashes look longer and fuller. I think that I've tried probably every premium mascara out there, some I love, some are OK, some are just a waste of money.
I always buy black mascara, as I have dark brown lashes. One of the mascaras that I do love is the original Diorshow mascara, however I've recently had a couple of instances where I've bought the black Diorshow only to find that it's actually been brown mascara inside the tube. Luckily I've managed to exchange them both with the retailers. So this time when I was buying a new mascara I decided to give the Diorshow 'Black Out' mascara a go, I figured that this had to actually be black mascara! The Diorshow Black Out mascara retails for £23.00 in most places.
This works equally as well as the original Diorshow, if not better. This leaves my lashes thick, long and full, and very, very black. Because this is very, very black then just one coat is more than adequate for daytime, however if I build this up to two coats for a night out then this gives a very dramatic and luxurious kind of smoky charcoal black kohl effect to my lashes. Whether I apply one coat or two it leaves my lashes nicely defined and separated. This is quite a creamy mascara and it doesn't leave my lashes with a 'rock-solid' look and feel, they still have a 'natural' look and feel to them, well as much as mascara coated lashes can have a natural feel that is!
This doesn't clump or cake on my lashes, and it doesn't flake off either. It also doesn't 'dissolve' and come off leaving me with panda eyes at the end of the day or at the end of the night. It also happens to be really easy to wash off, I just use my normal cleanser and water and it washes off easily enough. I tend to only use make up remover to take it off if I've had other heavy eye make up on as well.
I'd definitely re-purchase the Diorshow Black Out mascara, and I'd definitely recommend it. The only thing I would say though is that it may actually be too black for some people.
Diorshow Blackout Spectacular Volume Intense Mascara is one of the best mascaras I have ever used for nighttime wear. I have it in the Black Kohl shade and it's a deep, sooty mascara that helps me effortlessly achieve a sultry sexy look. Everything about it is excellent; it applies beautifully, lasts well, looks great, volumises and when the night is over is easily removed.
The brush is quite chunky and collects a LOT of mascara at a time; this means that you can see the effects of it from the very first sweep, the colour building up on your lashes instantly. The deep matte black thickens each lash individually and the smooth, creamy consistency ensures there is no clumping and definitely no spidery lashes. My only complaint really would be the fact that the brush sometimes tries to deposit too much mascara, the tube is too straight at the top to be able to remove excess mascara from the brush which can be a pain when trying to catch the finer hairs in the corners of my eyes. Also, sometimes I want to apply a thinner coat to finish off my look - those times when three coats would be too much, but two coats isn't quite enough.
The colour is amazing with thick black mascara; the dusty, feathery appearance it gives my lashes is feminine and sexy. It enhances my lashes adding curl and volume, it feels quite heavy to wear but doesn't weigh my lashes at all - in no way could you call it natural (or create a natural look!) but it doesn't look ridiculously fake as a lot of premium volumising mascaras do. I love how deep and rich the colour is, the result being that my lashes look well defined and this frames my eyes for a dramatic and very professional look.
The tip of the brush is perfect for my bottom lashes as it tapers off nicely, again there is no clumping and the colour pulls through my lashes smoothly. I usually only need one coat on my bottom lashes, while I'll apply at least two to my upper lashes. It's important to allow a couple of minutes for each coat to dry between coats to prevent your lashes sticking together, this is true of any mascara but I have noticed that with this Dior one if you try and rush the application you won't get the flawless look you're after - whereas the flawless look is surprisingly easy if you take your time.
When it's time to take your make-up off a spot of eye make-up remover on a cotton wool ball is all you need; it's too stubborn to be removed with plain water and cleanser, although if you've only used two light(ish) coats you can sometimes shift it with baby lotion. After removal my lashes feel conditioned and I never lose any lashes to the cotton wool, this tells me it's a kind mascara and the fact that it doesn't irritate my eyes (I wear contact lenses) confirms this. I'll sometimes get the 'panda effect' in the morning even if I'm positive I've removed every last bit of mascara, I put this down to the very high level of pigmentation and have learned to live with it - it's something that happens only occasionally and is no big deal as my usual cleanser will remove it effectively.
I absolutely 100% recommend this mascara, I'll wear it during the day only when I'm feeling like a 'loud' day because it does make me look very made-up. For going out it's great though, perfect in fact. It allows me to be more dramatic with my overall eye make-up as I know how good the finish of my lashes is going to be. I built up four coats once and although I felt a bit self conscious that I'd overdone it, the mascara layered smoothly and I think you could go thicker if you were daring enough!
I love buying make up and have built up a big collection of it over the years, you may know this already if you've ever read any of my reviews before, as most of them are about make up and beauty products.
Well anyway one thing I really love is finding a good deal on make up or finding a bargain. I love eBay for this! I was on eBay one day and saw this mascara for sale. It was much cheaper than it would normally cost in the shops. It was about £10 when if you were to go for Debenhams for this it would cost you about £20, double the price!
I checked the product was OK and it seemed trustworthy enough, it was a buy it now, brand new item, and more had been sold and so far everyone else had left positive feedback. So I trusted it to be genuine. Anyway I think eBay takes products off if they aren't genuine. So I didn't have any doubts about whether it would be the real thing or not.
I have read on lots of different make up websites that this mascara is one of the best out there. I had actually thought about buying it before, but had always been put off by how expensive it normally is. So now that I had seen it at such a cut price I decided I would try it.
I don't think I have tried many products from this brand before. But like most people I have of course already heard of Dior, and know it to be a luxury designer brand. So I felt very special having this luxury product in my make up bag! I don't think I would be able to afford anything else from this brand so can't really compare it to anything else from the same brand.
The bottle design is nice enough. It is nothing too special but it still looks OK. It is black with silver writing. Even though it is nice for the packaging to look good, it is more important that the product works well and does what it says on the box so thats what I'll focus on more in this review.
And this mascara does do what it says on the box. I had high hopes for this mascara and I was not disappointed when I got it and used it.
Sometimes when you get a mascara the actual liquid mascara bit itself can be really sticky and gooey, well this was not the case with this mascara. Somehow it was just the perfect consistency. It must be hard making mascara as you don't want it too thin or runny or too thick and sticky. Well anyway the consistency of this mascara is right in the middle, making it a 5 star buy.
The brush is also really good, there is no special design to it, its bascially just a normal mascara brush, but it suits the mascara and they work well together to make a great mascara overall. If you find mascara tricky to apply you might find this hard to apply. Sometimes I get it on my eyelids as well as my eyelashes, but this happens with most mascaras to be fair, and all I have to do is wipe it off with a cotton bud or even just my finger tip.
This is also easy to remove. It comes off when I wash my face, as it is not waterproof. I would not recommend wearing this for swimming or being out in heavy rain for a long time, it will run. It doesn't normally smudge but it would under these circumstances. Also I would not wear this for exercising if you are going to be sweating at lot.
If you want a mascara that is suitable for everyday wear, but can be transformed into a night mascara by simply adding a few more coats, then this is for you. I don't think I would pay £20+ for it but at £10 (thank god for ebay!!) this is a brilliant mascara and I would defintely recommend it.
I absolutely love trying new make up products and in the past I have tried out a number of mascaras from a range of different brands. This Diorshow blackout is the mascara that I always come back to. I really believe that no other mascara that I have tried can compete with this as I long for huge, thick, black lashes and it gives me exactly that.
I have tried Lancome and YSL, brands with mascaras that are extremely popular but none of them give me the false lash effect that I want. Despite their claims of producing dramatic, thick, long, voluminous lashes the results are all so subtle, and, as I have short and quite fair lashes, I really need a mascara that shows up and makes an impact to really open up and stand out against my brown eyes. This really is the mascara for you if you want a mascara that makes your lashes obvious.
If it does have a down side it would be that I personally feel that it does clump if you aren't very careful. The reason for this I think is because when you first use a new one so much comes out on the brush, there needs to be a smaller hole that takes away the excess better. I try and wipe the brush around the top before I use it but this just results in the top getting stuck of dried up mascara and it is a waste. However, after a while of using it not so much comes out and it doesn't cause as much clumping.
I don't feel that this is a curling mascara, it doesn't claim to be and if you want curled up lashes like I do you will have to use an eyelash curler before you apply in order to get the right shape. I used to own heated curlers, as manual ones barely make any difference to me, and when they broke and I couldn't find a replacement anywhere I used a tip from the Internet which is to blast your manual curlers with the hair dryer first to get them hot (warm) and make the lashes keep their shape. Doing this before applying Diorshow and making sure you don't put too much on will give you thick, black, long lashes with a nice curl.
I get awful eye infections if I don't wear a good mascara and Dior is my favorite brand due to reasonable prices and give length and allow for fuller looking lashes to give definition to each lash. This teamed with their eye liner gives either a professional look for work to a smokey, sexy look on a night out. This mascara allows for re-application throughout the day and night without a clumping effect, which for my busy schedule is very important.
You do need to use a good makeup remover wipe to get this mascara off, I personally use simple due to my sensitive skin, this gets my mascara off while being gentle to my skin and sensitive eyes.
I would recommend all of Dior's makeup range but especially the eye range, including the eye shadows, mascara and amazing eyeliner. This is the blackest of all the mascara products Dior offers and I personally think this is clear as I have tried all the other mascara products Dior offers.
I had been bought Dior Diorshow Black Out Spectacular Volume Mascara as a birthday gift from my friend as i kept going on about how i needed a maximum impact mascara.Knowing that i am quite impressed with top brand beauty products anyway she had decided to go with a brand she knew i would be delighted with, which i was.It comes in its flashy tube and the mascara was jet black which is what i prefer as it makes them stand out more it has a comb on it that is good enough size to get though most of your lashes at once. This great ! wanna know why because you get instant GLAM ! i am not sure what lady doesnt like to be glamorized but i am definatley one that does any time of the day and no i dont have my face caked with makeup at all as i think its about a few key product and the effective look of those few products .So this product is one i would reccommed even if for that reason it makes it a lot easy to look good from tha start of the day and if for a night out is ideal as the best thing to accommpany any eyeshadows used. And yes if you are going to spend quite a bit on a piece of makeup make sure it is one that you can see why you spent the money on it not a purchase that you would regret and a little also goes a long way.
Mascara is without a doubt, one of the most highly purchased cosmetics in the UK. In the search for beautiful wide-eyed, thickened, volumised lashes, there are many brands of Mascara to choose from. By far, the most stand out of any Mascara and indeed make-up brand I have tried, is Dior and in this case The Diorshow Blackout Mascara.
From the off, the packaging suggests a sophistication that is more Middleton than Middle-cop. It's black, curved plastic container with silver detailing and "DIORSHOW BLACKOUT" written across the side has a definite elegance to it. It is available in two sizes, the 4ml tube which is just perfect for handbags, and lasts a surprisingly long time. This sample size is available from counters, and can often be found in Dior gift sets/promotions. The full size tube however, retails at £22. Some of you may question why anyone would pay such an amount for a Mascara, and the answer is like all Dior products, it is sheer luxury and quality.
The applicator is a typical, brush style and reveals just the right amount of product on the wand when you go to use it, unlike some cheaper brands I have used which have a swamped lid. The wand glides through lashes with ease, and it is easy to build up the amount of coverage you desire. This mascara does not go sticky or clumpy whatsoever. A tip for ultra curved lashes, is to curl lashes prior to applying mascara. For a very dramatic effect, you could add false lashes and then use the mascara to blend them in with your own (great for nights out/special occasions).
Once applied, this mascara will pretty much last all day (try not to accidently rub your eyes though, as occasionally little flickers of black may fall off). I have applied this mascara to one eye as I write the review, and the difference is very obvious. My lashes look a lot longer and fuller in the eye which has Diorshow on it, and best of all it doesn't feel heavy on my eyelashes, nor are any lashes stuck together. It also has an interesting, slightly marshmallow smell to it.
Dior describes this product as: "Courtesy of Black Fix Complex - a unique blend of deeply saturated pigments - this creamy formula is the first to reproduce the intensity of kohl. Thickening powder adds staying power, while an Arabic gum extract provides a perfect charcoal-like finish and adds to its incredible resistance. Spectacularly intense!"
I definitely agree with the intenseness of the black. All too often when buying eye make-up, the black can be very underwhelming, and can even look more green or grey than an intense black. This mascara is definitely the blackest mascara I have ever used.
The only downside I have ever found with this product, is that it dries out much quicker than the average mascara. This was also a problem my cousin found with it when my Mum bought her this mascara for Christmas. I know the recommendation is that you should change your Mascara every 6 months due to the bugs and bacteria which supposedly build up on the wands, but realistically, who can afford to do this? For that reason this mascara may best be suited to evening use, rather than everyday as you may find you get through it quicker than expected otherwise. Overall though, a fantastic product. Definite brownie points if you buy your lady this for her next birthday!
If you wish to purchase this mascara and don't have a Dior counter near you, it is readily available on the House of Fraser and Debenhams websites, as well as Amazon and other beauty outlets. Visiting a Dior counter is well worth it though if you are near one, as they often give you a mini-make over, and sometimes give you freebies... no bad thing!
I treated myself to this mascara to celebrate my first paycheque in my new job. It cost £22 from House of Fraser which is more than I would usual spend. You can also get it on Amazon and eBay for cheaper.
I love the packaging of this. It is black with silver writing with the word Dior written repeatedly on the label in a shade of grey which you can only see close up. The tube is nice and chunky too.
Upon opening this mascara this first thing I noticed was a really strange chemical smell. It smells a bit like baby wipes but much harsher and it is quite strong. I put this down to the fact that it is suitable for very sensitive eyes, and therefore doesn't use any artificial scents. It doesn't smell once it has dried on the lashes so it's not too much of a problem.
The brush itself is huge. This may be what helps to give the mascara its effect but is does make it difficult to put on. I have got used to it now but the first time I used it I got it all over my face and even now I prefer to have a cotton bud on hand to correct any mistakes.
I love what this mascara does to my lashes. It makes them separated, fanned out and huge. Really long and volumized. It is supposed to be a more intense black than other mascaras but I can't really tell any difference. To me black is black and if it is any lighter is isn't black. However, I already have black eyelashes and use mascara for giving volume rather than darkening so perhaps this would be more apparent on someone with lighter eyelashes.
It is really water proof too. I got caught out in very heavy rain and got completely drenched using it and it didn't budge. I found it fine to remove as well although it probably depends what you use to remove your eye make up.
I love this mascara and I think I am converted - although I will shop around to get the best price on this runs out.
I was unsure as to whether to give this 4 or 5 stars as the brush, price and smell could be better but it works so well I am going to go with 5!
Now I have to admit I don't wear mascara everyday but when I do I have certain expectations from it. These are: I want the mascara to make my eyelashes look bigger thicker and more defined. As someone with pale skin and blonde brown hair my eyelashes are quite light and hence I feel they need more definition especially if I am going out on an evening. Also as I wear contact lens I find I need to be careful with some mascara's and eye make up in general as it can make my eyes water on occasion and cause irritation. I was pursued to try Diorshow Blackout a while ago and have never looked back really.
What is it?
Diorshow is part of the Christian Dior make up section. The packaging for this is simple but elegant in my opinion, the cardboard box that it comes in is sliver with black writing The Christian Dior logo is on the front in a raised profile but in silver this catches your attention when you touch it and when the light reflects on it. The packaging for the mascara as with most mascara's is a plastic tube with a wand brush. Again Christian Dior have gone for an understated look with the bottle and wand being black with the writing in sliver this time. If you hold it in the light you can see Dior written all over the bottle in a matt shade of black.
Dior market this mascara as having what they call "Black Fix Complex" what they define this as: is a unique blend of deeply saturated pigments to reproduce the effect of kohl. The effect is finished by the inclusion of a thickening powder and Arabic gum for a perfect charcoal-like finish
One of the first things that strikes me about the mascara is the brush element this is far longer and fatter than the mascara I previously used which was a Boots No7 one. The second thing about the brush is the width this is fatter at the end closest to the top and then tapers to the bottom of the brush. I personally think the round bristles are closer together than in other mascaras brushes that I have used too. One of the things I do like about this brush is that because the mascara itself is so creamy and thick none seems to end up on the plastic tube/ stick of the mascara brush. I am a little clumsy at times and can end up putting my finger on the stick part and then can transfer some mascara on to me in some way. The only criticism I have of the brush is that before use on occasions is that sometimes bits of creamy mascara end up on the end of the brush but it is a matter of seconds to just wipe this on the end up the tube.
I find this to be really easy use as personally like a thick brush as this means I need to do less touch ups which I find reduces the chances of an uneven effect. Rather than risk moving my hand with the thick wand to apply a coat I hold the brush by my eyes and blink my eyelashes over the top of the brush. This seems to work well for me and gives me an even coat with no clumping at all. I then use the brush with my eyes almost closed to put a coat on the top of my eye lashes. Once I have then taken some of the mascara off the brush by doing this I then do the eyelashes under my eyes. This way seems to result in less smudges on my face. I have found you don't need to re dip the wand into the tube during this time and one dip is enough per eye is more than enough. The mascara itself seems to take a few minutes to dry off so I would recommend doing something else during this time to avoid smudging your look.
Does it live up to the claims?
In my opinion it does, my individual eyelashes do look wider and thicker and they certainly do have more definition to them. The kohl colour gives a very sharp black that is quite rich and intense I would go as far to say as it is a sooty black really. This gives my eyes and eye make up a very smoky sensuous look for an evening when combined with the right eye shadow. The length that this mascara gives my eyelashes is amazing and friends on occasions have asked if I am wearing flash eyelashes as they have looked so long.
I have found that this mascara has incredible staying power I never have needed to re apply my mascara on a night out or even on those occasions I have worn it during the day it does seem to last all day. I have never noticed any flaking of the mascara whilst wearing it either. The version I have isn't the waterproof one but it still takes a bit off getting off with make up remover it lasts that long.
I am a huge fan of this mascara and though it isn't the cheapest mascara I have ever tried it is certainly for me the best and one I have bought several times now. I would definitely recommend this one if you like longer thicker looking lashes. The thick brush means you really only need one coat to achieve a dramatic look meaning the mascara will last you ages. At around £22 from Boots and similar retailers it is an investment product for your make up bag really. I have never had any sensitivity problems with my eyes or contact lens from wearing this mascara which is another huge positive for me as other brands like Bobbie Brown seem to cause me no end of problems
