For holidays a waterproof mascara is a must for me. For years now I have been trying to find a half decent waterproof mascara that will add volume and extenuate my lashes. Although I have been fairly successful in the former it is the latter that always seems to let me down. So a couple of months ago I decided to step away from the safety of my drugstore brands and splash out on a designer product. Having previously owned the original diorshow mascara and loving the results, I though it would be best that my first designer waterproof mascara also be from the same line that I knew I could trust.
Now reviewing this item has created for me a sort of internal conflict. I don't know whether to look at this product from the stance point of having considerably improved waterproof mascaras or as having significantly ruined the original diorshow.
The packaging is practically the same as the original and although it may not be as unique and flashy as one is used to seeing designer mascaras look like, the simple bottle is to me perfectly acceptable. You may find the dior print around the whole packaging slightly boisterous but it does not bother me at all as I am personally more concerned about how effective a product is rather than how it looks. The formula is definitely waterproof and will not budge throughout the day no matter what you put it through. To completely remove it I had to use a very oily based makeup remover with cotton pads. In terms of volume, this is the first waterproof mascara I have used that does not clump and it does somewhat add volume giving the appearance of a fuller lash. The applicator is the same big bristly brush allowing you to catch even the little hairs at the corner of your eyes (but i must say i have always had a problem using this on my bottom lashes as I prefer to use a thinner wand to coat them, in order to avoid smudging on my skin). Truthfully this is the best waterproof mascara i have came across in my years of searching and for it price tag i am not surprised, but for me this is somewhat overshadowed by the fact that original diorshow was so much better! Although slightly adding volume and elongating your eyelashes it does not lengthen or thicken your lashes no where near to the extent of diorshow. Moreover the formula of this waterproof version is a lot more tacky and doesn't have the same matte finish but rather a leathery look. But then again I guess this is the price you have to pay for a waterproof mascara.
I am a huge mascara hoarder, I can go out and buy mascaras all day long so I know what's good and what is not. I am going to start with the packaging of the mascara and the wand - The Dior diorshow waterproof mascara comes in a round black tube with silver 'dior' writing all over the bottle, I found this really tacky if I am honest for such a well known luxury brand it wasn't great, I found the writing chipped off around the bottle and this is not what I expect for the price I paid. The wand its self is quite a big one with bigger to smaller bristles on the wand - I really liked this touch because the big wand and brush made the mascara so easy to apply and didn't give my lashes the clumpy or tacky effect like other drug store mascaras.
I purchased my Dior mascara from my local town center for the price of £22 which is quite pricey for any mascara but it is a brand name, I think the mascara over all was really high quality, the liquid wasn't to thick causing lumps and wasn't to thin either which can cause the 'spider' effect on lashes. The only let down was the bottle and packaging which was a deal breaker for me because when you buy a designer brand you want to show it off and expect high quality which i did not get.
I have been loyal to the non-waterproof Diorshow mascara since its launch around 10 years ago. I recommended it to anyone that would listen, which is how I came to try the waterproof version: a friend had bought it on my recommendation of the non-waterproof version and hated it so much that she gave it me to use!
For me, the pros are the same as the non-waterproof version: the big brush, which really helps you layer on the product for the false-lash effect, and a thick creamy non-clump liquid. I particularly like that the waterproof version seemed to look a little glossier than my non-waterproof staple.
The absolute best and worst feature of this mascara is that it really doesn't budge. If you want a mascara that will look good and not smudge in any situation, this is the one! However, the pay-off is that it takes FOREVER to remove. If you usually remove your make-up with a facial wipe at the end of the day, you certainly need to up your arsenal before using this mascara -a facial wipe won't touch it. You need time, patience and several cotton pads soaked in oily eye make-up remover to get this stuff off!
Day-to-day, I just don't need a bullet-proof mascara! The non-waterproof version has never smudged, flaked or run on me, so I will be sticking with that!
This brand of mascara is catwalk quality. It creates long, luscious lashes with its pure black colour. The formula means the consistency is smooth and light, meaning NO LUMPS! This is a very important factor when it comes to a mascara. I have tried many other mascaras and none have compared to diorshow. It's light quality means you can barely feel that you are wearing any mascara at all.
The brush is designed for easy, even application, gentle strokes apply the mascara to the full length of the lash, corner to corner. The tip of the brush is narrower to allow access to the corner of the eye without smudging.
When is says 'waterproof' it means waterproof. Having had a snowball to the eye and no smudging, I think this is fair to say. Yet, with makeup remover or a facewipe it comes away with a few gentle wipes.
One slight disadvantage is that, after a couple of weeks use the mascara is noticeable less generous on the brush. It does last for a couple of months but I only wish it would remain as good as the first weeks use. It just means you need a few more applications to create the same effect. A problem that I would imagine is the same for any mascara.
Although, this is an expensive brand of mascara, it is worth paying the extra money, in my opinion.
I don't normally buy waterproof mascaras as I don't need my mascara to be waterproof, and I also find them to be difficult to remove. I ended up with this one by accident.
I had originally bought the non waterproof Diorshow mascara in black from Debenhams, but on getting it home and opening it, I discovered that it was actually brown. I had previously had the exact same thing happen to me with a Diorshow black mascara that I had bought from duty free, that black mascara was brown too! I managed to change this one on my way back.
Anyway back to my Debenhams mascara, I took it back and I had the sales assistant check that the replacement was actually black before I took it, it turned out that all of their stock of black Diorshows were brown! She offered me the waterproof version as this was actually black, so I took this instead.
To be honest I've not been that impressed with it. It's £22.00, the same price as the non waterproof version, and it comes in the same three colours; black!! brown!! and blue. But that's where the similarities end. I don't find that this works as well, I find that it doesn't leave my lashes as long and as full. I have the shortest, stubbiest eyelashes in the world ever, and so a mascara which makes my lashes longer and fuller is an essential item for me. I had thought that this would work just as well as the original but it would just be waterproof, I was definately wrong.
This does have some plus points though; it doesn't clump or cake on your lashes, and it doesn't flake off, and obviously it's waterproof. It does leave your lashes nicely defined and seperated, however the fact that for me it doesn't give me the length and volume of the original is a huge turn off, especially at the high price. I could get a much cheaper mascara that would work equally as well as this. I'm happy to pay a premium if I get much longer, fuller lashes which the original Diorshow does give me, but not the waterproof Diorshow.
This is also quite difficult to remove, you certainly can't wash it off, and I also find that even with make up remover I can struggle to get it all off. I have to rub and tug at my eyes, which can tend to leave them sore. I also find that even if I think it's all off - it isn't, I will invariably have slight panda eyes the following morning, which are still quite difficult to remove. This doesn't leave you with panda eyes during the day when you are wearing it, it's just when you're trying to get it off. This mascara is definately waterproof (I have tried to wash it off - it just doesn't happen), and it definately has staying power!
Would I buy this again - no.
Would I buy the original non waterproof Diorshow again - yes, but I would check that it was actually black first though, so as not to be in the same situation where I had to take this waterproof one as a replacement.
I needed a mascara that would make a big impact with regards to length and volume. A lady in a department store showed me the Diorshow mascara. I had heard that this mascara was favoured by make-up artists at fashion shows so thought that would be as good a basis as any to give it a go myself. I thought I would get the waterproof variety since I was going on holiday soon. Overall, I think this is a good product. It doesn't give your lashes a clumped effect like other volume enhancing mascaras and it can handle multiple applications. It lasts well through the day and evening which is great as it means you don't have to redo your make up all over again! The waterproof one is quite tough to remove, so make sure you have a decent make-up remover. Give the brush a clean every 2 weeks because it is quite a thick brush and could use freshening up every so often!
I have a variety of makeup from Christian Dior to Avon to 17. If its one thing I have found difficult to find its a great mascara.
Really you should replace your mascara every 3-6 months according to the experts and never share it with your friends, unless you want the chance of catching a nasty eye infection!
I have tried £1 mascaras but Diorshow at £18.50 available from good department stores, Boots and online, is by far the most I have ever paid.
I bought the black one although they do a mega black and brown.
The packaging is lovely. The mascara comes in its own CD cardboard box. The actual mascara barrel is quite wide and the brush is extra thick with plenty of bristles. Its very attractive with silver lettering and the dior logo.
Anyway, onto the actual mascara. I usually have to apply two coats of mascara to ensure that my lashes look longer, thicker and more curled. NOT with this one.... one good application was all that I needed.
It lasted all day and into the evening without even budging or smudging or getting bitty! BRILLIANT
Removing it was ok too with a good cleanser and toner or eye make up remover it comes off quite easily.
The mascara lasted me around 6-8 months with almost daily usage. Then it needed changing as it became thickened.
Overall, worth the extra money (if you have got it) and want beautiful long thick curled lashes!
Most of my make up is Dior, although I do have alot of ranges, this is my favourite range, my daughter introduced me with it as a christmas present in 2007 and I have tended to stay with is ever since, and I wore it for her wedding.
The brush on this product is not rough on the lashes, it opens the lashes nicely and gives a good look and makes the lashes look longer and thicker.
It is a good waterproof as I have been caught out a few times crying or rubbing my eyes and it has not smudged or ended up on my face unlike some cheaper ones.
For the price of around £20.00 it is exellent value.
Can be purchased from many department stores, but I bought mine from House of Frazer and Debenhams.
I like the design on the side it is stylish and goes well with the black.
The screw top is good to open and does not clog up with the mascara once it is put back into the tube, it also is moist when comes out on the brush and is not dry like some others.
I have always bought the black one in this mascara but I am sure it is done in a blue but I cannot remember if it is done in this range but I love the blue and am sure I have seen it before. This is my third time i have bought this one and am so glad my daughter introduced me to the Dior range because I love it. I have all the make up now and my collection is growing nicely.
What i also did was go to the Department store that does a mini make over and they did my makeup for free and they used makeup to match my complexion and then I bought the ones they recommended, which for me was exellent because then I did not buy a product I thought suited me, I bought the one that was recommended by the DIOR expert.
Can be purchased from Debenhams or House Of Frazer.
Diorshow waterproof mascara is the best mascara in the world!
Firstly Dior is the ultimate luxury brand! Christian Dior was the most influential french fashion designer and now all the products that have his name are steeped in elegance, sophistication and beauty.
The Diorshow mascara is my absolute favorite mascara ever! Every time you use it, it makes you feel glamourous (and chic french). It comes in Noir (black), chestnut (a molten brown colour) and a devine vivid blue colour.
One of the reason why i love this product is that it is waterproof so wherever you go you don't have to worry about your mascara running, smudging or flaking on you - but it is easy to take off with a eye make up remover. Also it has a huge brush, so it just gets the right amount of mascara for each eye and applies it perfectly, to give you that not tried to hard glamour (think Kate Moss or Reese Witherspoon). Also the packaging is cute, but chic, simple and elegant and you look 'posh' buying it :D
I never go anywhere it out my trusty Dior! The only off put is the price, but i think that for brand and the wonderful product that does exactly what it says it is worth every penny! It is currently retailing it Boots at about £20
Thank you for reading my review, I hope it was helpful! :D
I would highly recommend this product! I personally have very short eyelashes which have very little thickness to them but, this does everything. It thickens and lengthens well without the need for heavy application. Once I applied I also find that it helps to give the appearance of more eyelashes as it helps to space them out and doesn't clump at all.
As for curling I tend to use eyelash curlers as well as my mascara but, this isn't essential as the large mascara brush does help to give eyelashes a curl as it lengthens. I find the mascara quite dark, which I personally find as a positive but, I do have dark hair. However, I also happen to know that Dior do a more intense black mascara, should you want the same sort of application but darker.
I've used alot of other mascaras by makers such as benefit and maybelline and I find there is no comparison, this is definitely one of the best mascaras out there at present. I was recommended this product by a friend and have since recommended it to another friend, both of which feel the same way about this product and continue to use it.
I have been through literally dozens of mascaras, trying to find the king of them all - I wear only eyeliner, mascara, and blush, so I have the money to splurge on the few select items that I do buy. Prior to purchasing the Diorshow mascara, I had tried, among other brands, Shisedo's Extra Length mascara (which came complete with extra-lengthening fibres), Benefit's Bad Gal lash, and, following much fanfare, Le 2 de Guerlain. I had liked the Japanese fibre mascaras, but didn't really enjoy having the product grow old and the fibres drying out and flaking off as I wore it. I had read so much about the Diorshow mascara, so I thought I might give it a go, and was not disappointed with my purchase - it does give very sumptuous, thick lashes without the need for very thick application - I literally have to go over the lashes once, and my look is really transformed. More importantly, the look is incredbily natural - I've had mine for a couple of months now, and even now, my lashes don't clump. You won't look like a WAG wearing this out! What is more, I had had a problem with Benefit's mascara with smearing as the day wore on - but I have had no such problems with Diorshow; in fact, I've even cried whilst wearing this mascara, and it hasn't run! The skin around my eyes is very sensitive and I have never felt the need to rub them whilst wearing this mascara - using other brands, my eyes would feel itchy or irritated and I'd end up looking like a raccoon. Genuinely the best mascara I've ever tried - I'm a definite Diorshow convert now!
I got this mascara as a part of my birthday present from my friends, and have been very impressed with how good it is! For years now I have stuck with Max Factor mascaras, which have always been good, but not quite as good as this one. However, as the Diorshow comes in at around £18-20 it is much more of a luxury and indulgence than the Max Factor at half the price.
So, is it worth paying a bit extra? In my opinion, yes it is. I've always suffered from watery eyes as the are very pale blue and quite sensitive. Every mascara I have tried has ran a little bit, with the exception of this Dior one. No matter how much my eyes water and I wipe them this mascara does not budge!
I found the application of this product very easy, with the large brush making good even coverage quickly acheivable. I use a couple of coats as I like quite a lot of mascara on my blonde eyelashes, but for darker eyelashes one quick coat would probably be enough for most people. The big brush is definitley a contributing factor to how easy it is to apply (although it can be tricky to master at first as its size means it isn't too difficult to end up with it on your eyelashes.
The mascara liquid as a great consistency, gloopy enough to stay on the wand and your eyelashes well. I did experience some clumping but nothing too bad.
The packaging on this product is also very nice - it comes in a Dior box with the mascara inside. The simple silver and black packaging mark this out as a luxury item, setting it apart from the often garish cheaper packaging on cheaper products.
Overall, having first tried this product as it was given to me as a present I will be buying it again as it is a worthwhile investment in a product that actually does what it says it will do!
~About the Company~
Christian Dior was born in 1905. He shared his Mother's passion of flowers and design, as a young boy Christian would create costumes for Granville carnival. There he made friends who followed him to his fashion house.
Christian dreamed of a career in music and fine arts.
In 1930 Christian Dior came into the world of fashion, he started selling his sketches to woman's magazines. In 1946 Christian opened his first fashion house, and this is where it all began.
In ten years Christian Dior became one of the greatest fashion designers in the world.
~About the Product / What the Product Says to Do~
This product has been inspired by the fashion walkway. This mascara is known as a behind the scenes trick for all makeup artists.
It leaves your lashes thick, full and curved. The trouble big brush is great for maximising your lashes for that great dramatic effect all night long.
Apply the same away as your usual mascara. Start from the base of the lashes and give them a little wiggle from root to tip, this way your making sure every lash is coated. Once you're satisfied gently turn the wand around so you're using the tip and stroke the lash upwards making a fan effect. Doing this opens up the eyes a lot more and making you look like you have false lashes on.
~Texture / Packaging / Colour~
The texture of this mascara is very creamy and feels light on the lashes. It is very pigmented as well so a lot isn't needed to get a full dramatic effect.
The tube it comes in looks classy and it not an mascara you would feel you would have to hide away when applying in public. The bottom half is black and the top half has silver D's all over. The screw off lid is also silver chrome with CD written at the top.
The tube comes in 11.5ml
The colour I have bought is number 090 in black. It is a beautiful jet black colour.
I have never own any Christian Dior cosmetics before and I have seen this mascara a lot on adverts and I have also read a lot of reviews about how great this mascara is.
In the end I had to buy it and try for myself, I am glad I did as this mascara is brilliant. It literally does what it says on the tin.
I find using two to three coats from root to tip works wonders and creating a fan effect afterwards with the mascara tip.
Unfortunately there is no curling effect for me, I am stubborn long, thick and very straight lashes and the best mascara in the world can not curl my lashes.
From wearing all day and all night I never found all mascara falling onto my cheeks like I have with other ones I have tried. I have never felt like I need to reapply and it has never smudged.
Because it is a lot of money for one mascara I can't bring myself to buy another one every 3 months except for a special occasion. But this is one mascara I will be buying again in the future or maybe a good searing on eBay might do the trick.
Because I have had a really good experience with this mascara it makes me want to try some more of Dior's products.
Major thumbs up from me.

~Would I Recommend / Purchase Again~
You'd be hard-pushed to find a mascara better than this! Many promote a large brush nowadays, lots of brands advertise thier 'biggest brush ever', but Diorshow really does have a BIG brush, but it is designed so well!
I'd been dying to try out this mascara for the longest time and when my Mom was going on a flight, I begged her to buy it in duty free for me! It didn't disappoint!
The first thing that will strike you is that there is a lovely smell, almost like parma violet sweets or talcum powder! This is strange at first but you will become accumstomed to it as it's an added bonus each day when applying makeup! The silver and black packaging is also shiny and gorgeous, it never stop feeling expensive and luxurious!
Just because a mascara has a big brush, it doesn't mean it is good, but this really is. The bristles are more spaced out so you can control your coverage and comb your lashes, rather than scrape them with a Christmas tree-sized brush! The end is also quite fine so you can target your teeny lashes at the inside corner of your eyes.
Sadly, as much as I love this product, I cannot give it five stars and these larger brushes are harder to use- you have to be careful not to get mascara everywhere! It's hard to really get the roots of your lashes. You have less control because the brush hides your lashes while you apply it haha! Great for night where you want the biggest lashes possible and are wearing a lot of eye makeup anyway.
I purchased this mascara after recommendation from quite a few friends. It s approx. £5 more expensive on average than the mascara I normally buy, so I was expecting a little extra. The packaging signifies the price. The mascara comes in very smart, posh, expensive looking packaging a nice think silver cardboard box with the dior monogram plastered all over it. You can get this mascara in a few varieties, the main being normal, waterproof and extra black. The extra black one has bits of charcoal in to make it extra black, as the name suggests. When you open the packaging the mascara is black with extra silver on which again makes it look nice and classy and signifies the right price region that you paid for it. The brush is thick and bristly and fits snuggly into the mascara tube. The thickness of the brush allows for application on all your lashes and makes them appear thicker. All round this is a good mascara, doesnt rub and is hard enough to get off that you know its not going to smudge everywhere for long applications.
