Recently on my trips to the beauty counters I have been opting for more concealer - primer based products rather than my usual foundations. The reason for this being the annoying dark circles and discolouration my tired eyes produce first thing in the morning!
I had been using the YSL Touche Eclat after my Mum recommended it to me and I had found it to be amazing! But after I ran out and the department store did not have any in stock I was pointed in the direction of this gorgeous product - Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen.
It is not considered a concealer but a radiance pen which adds brightness to any area of your face that is in dire need - such as brow and cheek bones, the bridge of your nose or your cupids bow. I was excited at this concept but more so because it is an advanced make up that contains the Tibetan Rhodiola Plant Extract - Fortifies Cell, this ingredient is 100% natural which reassures me that there are not other nasty chemicals lurking under the click of the pen. The plant extract helps to reduce redness and increase the natural brightness of your skin tone - something we all like to hear! And the brilliant ingredients do not stop there - a Light Booster Complex has also seasoned this Dior product meaning that any imperfections will be smoothed away within one stroke, leaving beautiful illuminated skin in its trail.
I could not wait to try this radiance pen with haste! The packaging is extremely exquisite and sophisticated with a shiny, silver pen formation - a little like the gold YSL version with 'Skinflash' marked along the middle in bold lettering. At the bottom is the click mechanism in which the product is dispersed. Once you take off the lid a brush tip is exposed - I love to apply it this way, rather than pouring some out and using my fingers or a separate make up brush as you won't end up using too much this way and wasting any product!
At first, it does take quite a few clicks of the pen to release the product so you end up sounding like the annoying kid in the exam with the clicky biro! However once it is let free it possesses a lovely creamy consistency that glides on ultra smoothly and very easily. When I first used it I was using it as a concealer but found it to be too thick and almost too brightening to properly cover my blemishes and discolouration. I then found if I mixed a little in with my usual concealer the effect was amazing it really did brighten my eyes with the help of my trusty concealer taking the harsh colour away. Having said that it is one of the BEST highlighters I have ever used! I place a little on my brow bone and cheekbones and love the effect it has - even in photos you can see that when the light catches your face it looks lovely! Another little trick I have picked up is if you apply a tiny amount to your cupids bow before you put your lipstick on it makes your lips appear fuller and more defined!
There are 6 shades available to choose from, they are:
001 Roseglow: This shade reminds me a little bit of a paler version of the Benefit Highbeam as it is a gorgeous pale iridescent pink, pearly shade with a hint of sheen and shimmer.
002 Candlelight: The name of this shade conjures up a warm glow of a candle which is just what this shade will give your skin with a light beige base.
003 Sunbeam: A beautiful middle of the road beige mixed with a balmy light terracotta hue to create a gorgeous glow!
004 Spicy tan: Slightly darker tan with spicy elements appending a sexy shimmer!
005 Shimmery white: Very pale, soft white hue that almost sparkles, this is the lightest shade in the range however 001 Roseglow is the natural lightest.
006 Golden glow: A warm golden colour with caramel tones - this shade is on limited edition and is currently the darkest, however 004 Spicy Tan is the second darkest.
Overall I am very impressed with the Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen to create luminosity and radiance to my face! The texture is amazing and applies easily causing it to be easy to blend - something we all look for in a beauty product! Also the packaging is perfectly compact so you could pop it in your pocket for a touch up! Let your skin bask in the daylight with this highlighter!
Retailing at roughly £25 it is a high end designer product as the brand is Dior. You are not just paying for the name though, this product is very long lasting and durable - just make sure you don't click out too much product because it will be like putting toothpaste back in the tube! Really great product that you will not regret!
'Skinflash' is 'Dior's' version of a radiance pen. Initially 'YSL' created the hype of 'Touche Eclat (Radiant Touch)' in their iconic gold pen, which till this day on is going strong.
These pens can be worn on bare skin or over foundation.
These pens give radiance to certain areas such as eye area, to give it a brightening effect, so the area looks flawless and radiant.
Depends on your eyes and skin. If you have naturally got an even tone with a few imperfections because of late nights or being tired, which can make your eyes look tired and dull then this is for you.
If you have deep set eyes or an uneven tone under the eyes, may be darkness or veins, then I suggest you use a thicker concealer for coverage and possibly there after to use this to give a little more coverage, brightening and radiance.
'Skinflash' is in a beautiful silver casing and by twisting the pen the product dispenses. The bristles on the brush are small, smooth and short, which provides an even amount of product to dispense into the brush and an even finish.
Skinflash has skin care properties too. The same product used in their 'Capture' range called 'Bi-Skin' is in this product too. This ingredient which is derived from a plant, smooths and evens out fine lines, which means you get the benefit of make up with skin care.
It has light-reflecting pigments (yellow, pink and blue), to give radiance to the area, also when photos are taken the face will look brightened and flawless.
This product can be used anywhere but a lot of people buy this mainly to brighten the under eye area.
My tips would be is try to place under and over your eyebrow to give it shape and definition. On the bridge of your nose to make it look longer and slimmer. Around the lips after applying lipstick to give you an even shape, definition and stop the lipstick from bleeding. Another suggestion would be applying it over your foundation, to brighten the face and show radiance.
It is available to buy in three colours 'Rose (001)', 'Candlelight (002)' and 'Sunbeam (003)'. They all are fantastic colours but unfortunately they do not suit people with dark skins.
I used the 'Sunbeam' and it has a natural tan coloured look that doesn't give an orange look.
When I opened it up it was in a dark blue cover, which protected the product but also you can protect from future damage too. After many twists the product oozed out, it's texture smooth and a little bit creamy.
I did not use it as a concealer but as a radiance pen and it really worked for me. It brightened my look and made my dull face look flawless. When I was taking pictures I was glowing and it gave definition to my eyes and lips. It is not very hydrating, so use a good moisturiser/eye cream before use.
You can purchase this product from most department stores and larger Boots. It is available to buy online too. The price on average is £26 but can be found cheaper or expensive in different stores and online. Works really well with their Airflash foundation, which gives an airbrush finish.
This is a great variation of a concealer and highlighter. It hides the imperfections on your skin, such as the dark circles around your eyes and also gives your skin a very beautiful, healthy tone of colour. It is very easy to apply and can be used on all areas on the face, as well as to highlight your cheeks. However, this is not a very long-lasting product. Once applied it will stay only for a couple of hours, so you will need to carry it around with you in order to keep the same desired effect. Because of that, this booster pen is gone very quickly, especially if you use it every day. This product, being Dior, is more expensive than usual, but it is also good quality. It is also very similar to the Givenchy mister light pen and YSL concealer pen, which are also very similar in prices.
Dior Skin Flash drastically changes the way my shadows and imperfections look after just one stroke. Although, it does change the imperfections and my gloomy under eye shadows I did find the product not to be as good as it was hyped up to be especially because although it does drastically change the way my imperfections look it doesn't hide them how I imagined it to.
Not only does it act as a concealer but it also highlights areas such as cheek bones and makes tired eyes look bright and radiant.
Strangely enough it was the Chanel counter at boots where I was first recommended the "Dior Skin Flash Pen". They had sold out of all their concealers so they told me one of the second best concealers to try out in the store is the "Skin Flash" product.
I use this pen to brighten dark areas like the dark circles under my eyes and also I use it for my cheek bones to highlight and define them. The product has a great consistency because it isn't thick and cakey like most concealers are this might surprise people as most concelers are designed so they have a thick consistency almost mask like to hide imperfections however, this product is very thin but nonetheless hides any discolourants despite its less thick consistency..
The pen is silver and looks attractive for a concealer. You must twist the end to make the product come out. The pen has a brush so once you twist the end of the pen the product comes out through the brush which makes it a lot easier to apply then let's say a stick where you have to use a separate concealer pen. Having a brush with the concealer makes it less time consuming and easier to apply because you can just apply it on the bus, car or wherever you are with very little time all you have to do is twist the end and then apply where necessary.
Skin flash has light-reflecting particles which help reduce dark areas in the skin such as dark circles/shadows and spots.
I do like the Skin flash but more as a highlighter than a concealer and so when I saw the results of the product I was left quite disappointed as the reason I bought the product was for the concealer side rather than for its highlighting properties also the sheer fact the woman at the Chanel counter claimed it was one of the best concealers on the market did add to my disappointment as I did believe her for a second. I would agree as far as to say it is one of the best highlighter radiant booster pens because my cheek bones do really stand out and look defined when I use it in fact I don't go out on a night out without brushing the product onto them but I still was disappointed on the claims that it hides dark circles and shadows because although it does improve the look of them it doesn't hide them it just seems to brighten the darker areas.
Due to having such dark circles and shadows around my eye area (I believe it is hereditary) I need a concealed with a thick consistency and one that doesn't highlight and brighten the area as such but covers it completely that's why I prefer using a creamier concealer rather than a liquid one.
For 1.5ml this product is around £25 (Sorry I have no idea how much I paid at Boots and it doesn't say on the website) but having a quick glance through Google most websites are selling it for around this price.
Finding out it was this price has made me feel less satisfied with the product because I did think I paid only about £15, I definitely don't think it is worth an extra ten pounds for the quality of the product. I guess I was just paying for the name!
The shade I purchased was Candle light this is no.2 so as you can imagine it's fairly light in fact a lot lighter than my skin. The reason I was told to buy the pen in a lighter shade was because they said it wouldn't work as well if it was the same tone as my skin colour. Apparently, you should buy concealers and highlighter pens in a lighter colour to your skin because it stands out more and brightens area.
Overall, I would give the skin flash radiant booster a 3/5 although I would buy this again because I love how it highlights my cheek bones and the appearance of the pen, I don't however think it hides dark circles very well and so I wouldn't recommend it to people who are just wanting to buy the pen for this property as you may be less than disappointed.
This product is a brilliant mix of a concealer and highlighter, giving your skin depth and illuminating radiance.
As stated in my review of Dior pure light foundation, I use this product, before applying my foundation, to both hide any imperfections and to give my skin a light boost.
It can be used just like a highlighter to get rid of shadows, give your skin radiance and covers imperfections as well as any other concealer.
Any other concealer I have bought in the past has been a stick concealer, which I find very cakey and thick and when I first bought this product I thought it was to light and almost runny to be any good. I was very surprised to find that it gives better coverage than the stick concealers and you don't feel like you have a big spot caked in concealer on your face. Because the Dior skin flash is so light you forget you have an imperfection.
The pen has one end with an applicator brush and the other end twists to push the product through the brush, making application very easy with out any mess.
I think I payed around £15 for this product, which is allot for a concealer, but that was around 12 months ago and I still have some left so its a good investment.
I really love this product and highly recommend it to anyone looking to give there skin radiance.
