I am very lucky in that my Mum loves Dior and Chanel products, and so I usually get some expensive make-up or nail varnish for my birthday and at Christmas. I received this nail varnish as a present from Mum a while ago in shade number 483, which goes by the name of Pink Kimono. I remember being slightly unsure as to what to make of the colour of the nail varnish when I received it, as it is a rather pale pink, and I was worried it would look a bit pale against my pale skin! However, as the weather has finally decided to brighten up, I decided to try out this nail varnish in the hope it would look ok now I have a remote hint of a tan. Dior Vernis nail varnish can be purchased from a number of department stores, such as Debenhams and House of Fraser, and I have seen it priced from around £15 to £18, which I feel is rather expensive for a nail varnish! There are many different colours available to purchase the varnish in, including shades of blue, red and orange. I think you can tell that this is a luxury item as soon as you open the box, as the packaging is lovely. The nail varnish comes in a transparent bottle, so that you can see the colour of the nail varnish, with the words 'Dior Vernis' across the front. The bottle has a silver lid, with Christian Dior's CD initials imprinted onto the top. The lid is very easily pulled off to reveal a small black screwtop lid that has the applicator brush attached. I have found the brush applicator to be a good size for applying the nail varnish, as it is fairly big and so I find it only takes a few strokes of the brush to evenly apply the varnish. I always like to make sure that I have applied plenty of the product, and so I always apply two coats of nail varnish, regardless of brand. I also always apply a base coat and top coat. I applied this nail varnish 8 days ago, with a base and top coat, and it only started to chip very slightly after 5 days of wear, which I think is pretty good going, especially considering I've been doing a lot of cleaning and painting our garage this week. It is now looking rather worse for wear and needs removing, but today is the first day that it's started to look a mess. I've also found that the colour when applied to my nails doesn't look as pale as it does in the bottle, and in fact is a lovely summery pink colour. In summary, therefore, this is an expensive nail varnish that I probably would not purchase myself. However, I have loved receiving it as a gift due to it's luxury packaging, it's lovely colour and the fact that it has remained chip resistant for a number of days. I recommend this as a great nail varnish, but I feel the need to remove 1 star, as it still seems very expensive for a nail varnish.
I really like nail varnishes but it's not an item that I choose to splash out on. That doesn't mean that I don't like using the more expensive brands though so I was very happy to unwrap one of the Dior Vernis Haute Couleur High Lasting Nail Lacquer on my birthday! What does the product do? The product promises to give the nails a beautiful splash of colour with a shiny lacquered finish and long lasting results with a chip resistant formula. The added benefit is that while it keeps your nails looking beautiful, it actually strengthens and restores the nails when the polish is worn frequently. It also helps to speed up the growth of the nails and to stop the nails from growing so you should have lovely looking nails both during and afterwards. Available Shades The product comes in lots of vibrant and colourful shades which range from reds, purples, blues and neutrals. There have lovely names like Lucky, Plaza and Nirvana. I was given the very pretty Riviera which is a gorgeous coral orange shade. Packaging and Price The product comes in a classy looking cuboid glass jar which is transparent and you can see the varnish inside. It has the name of the product on the front and a silver lid. The wand is found in the lid when you unscrew the product and it has medium sized bristles which are thick. The product is going to cost £18 for 10ml of the nail varnish and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and Debenhams, and also from a range of online supermarkets. Application and Performance The varnish has quite a thick consistency for a nail varnish but it isn't so thick that it makes it difficult to work with. The brush is also quite large which means that you can mostly coat the nail in one go which saves time but I've also find that it's harder to be accurate with the application. Unless I'm being really careful then I do get some on the skin around the name but his can be removed with a cotton bud and nail varnish remover. The colour goes on beautifully and with one coat the colour is almost opaque but two coats makes the coat look perfect and it then matches what you can see in the bottle. The product dries completely within a few minutes and then you can go about your daily business without you having to worry about smudging your work of art. The colour has a lovely shiny finish just as promised and your nails gorgeous. The varnish has long lasting results and it doesn't chip or fade for around 5 days, even when I am doing jobs around the house, when I wearing a top coat. The product is easily removed using my usual nail varnish remover and my nails are in a good condition once the product has been removed. I can't say that I have noticed the formula has made my nails grow faster but I have noticed that they are stronger and in a better condition. Conclusion All in all, this is a lovely nail varnish which leaves a gorgeous opaque colour in two coats and has a beautiful shiny finish. The varnish doesn't chip or fade for days but it is still easily removed with a nail varnish remover. Although it didn't really make my nails grow faster, it did leave them stronger and in a better condition. The product is really expensive for a nail varnish and I can't say whether it's actually worth paying double the price of a varnish that would get the job done just as well but I would happily receive another shade as a present!
