Introduction
Maybelline Dream Matt Mousse
Maybe she's born with it or in reality maybe like me she just needs a little bit of extra help!! Come on I'm not getting any younger you know. As an allergy sufferer who has to vet every single product with a 24 hr patch test first, I was glad to discover this foundation was compatible with myself. I have to confess I use this product quite often now for going out in the evenings with no adverse affects to my allergies.
The Product
The product is Maybelline NowYork's dream matte mousse in colour nude (21). The manfacturer claims that its whipped formula provides an "air soft perfect matte finish with a weightless feel". Its colour pigments offer superior coverage, which blend effortlessly for a soft-looking natural even toned result. (Check out the Maybelline website for more science specifications on this product). Has a very subtle soap smell, which you really don't notice.
Application
For best results to match your skin tone, start by applying the mousse down the centre of the face first. Use a small amount of make-up and blend it in thoroughly, working outwards to ensure an even coverage. This will ensure that you won't get a tide-line of make-up that is very noticeable. Layer more if necessary to achieve the coverage you require. You can blend in with your fingers or by using a small make-up sponge to achieve the desired results. Personally I would begin by using a face cream first as it tends to go on more evenly as a result.
The Packaging
Comes in an extremely small little glass pot with an interesting screw top design. The lid has the manufacturers name on it and the colour of the mousse which has been selected. Contains 18ml of product.
Ingredients
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Squalane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Vinyl, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Polymethlysilsesquioxane, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Silica Dimenthyl. (A few other chemicals however i find it hard to believe there are so many in one little pot).
Advantages
This product is available in 16 different shades, So you are sure to find one which blends well with your skin tone. It does offer even coverage although takes longer to apply than most other foundation products that I have tried in the past. Aptly named as it does look exactly like a caramel mousse!! It covers minor imperfections and blemishes on the skin leaving a flawless finish. For best results apply a light dusting of bronzing powder over the top on application as this makes the look even more natural. The coverage does last a good few hours 4-5 I would say. You hardly notice that you are wearing this as it is so light. There is no stickiness and you don't get that painted on feel with it.
Disadvantages
Has quite a strange consistency and I would not recommend putting too much of this product on at once as it can make you look like a porcelain doll. Keep your hands away from your face as the mousse will rub off quite easily and transfer onto clothes. For a small pot it really is rather expensive to buy. Shop around though as I have recently seen some good promotions available.
Overall rating and comments
I would tend to use this product for going out at night as it can be a bit time consuming to apply it in the morning. Well I do get up at 5.30am most days!! The coverage is good and the finish lovely however don't overdo it, less is definitely more in this instance. There are other Maybelline products on the market which achieve better results than this one. I would rate this product with three stars.
