Advantages: Easy to apply and blend and leaves skin looking flawless
Disadvantages: None for me
Since its launch many years ago I had been using Boots No 7 Intelligent Balance Mousse foundation and would describe it as the best I had ever used. However, I was horrified to discover last year that the product had been discontinued and the few jars that I had been hoarding would be my last opportunity to enjoy this high quality foundation. Consequently, my search for a suitable replacement began and my first task was to find one that contained the correct formulation for my T-zone skin type.
It was necessary for me to find a product that was oil free and/or mattifying and a foundation that seemed to meet these requirements as well as sounding similar to that of my much loved No 7 was Maybelline Dream Matt Mousse. I tried out a few testers in store to ascertain the most suitable shade by applying a small stripe to my jaw line and the Ivory (010) was the most appropriate as it almost disappeared into my natural skin tone, so my purchase was made.
We are provided with 18 ml of mousse, which is contained within a glass jar with a beige coloured screw top lid, which makes the product considerably appealing to the eye. For hygienic reasons there is a transparent seal on the side of the jar so I had the assurance that nobody had been sampling the foundation prior to my purchase. I always use a little concealer prior to applying foundation as I have a couple of skin imperfections, which although minor, I prefer to be totally hidden.
The foundation is fairly fluffy to the touch, but in comparison with No 7 I do not feel it is as light in texture, but I must admit that it is easily applied where I need to use only a little. It spreads evenly over my skin whilst enabling me to effectively and effortlessly blend the mousse into my jaw and hairline so there are no visible tell tale signs. Unfortunately, my expectations for this product weren't particularly high as I felt that nothing would be able to compare with my previous brand. However, I was proved incorrect, as the mousse offers a fabulous coverage resulting in a flawless and almost air brush appearance to my skin whilst giving me a really natural look. I gently dab some pressed face powder on my T-zone areas whilst taking considerable care not to lift any of the mousse from my skin.
In the past I have used foundations that have tended to melt and simply slide off the skin, but this is not something I have experienced with this product. The mousse offers excellent coverage for the entire day and I have never noticed any signs of caking or had the reason to reapply. What I love about this fragrance free product is that I cannot feel it resting on my skin and there is no tackiness following application. Due to the fact that I suffer with T-zone skin I often notice a slight breakthrough of shine around lunchtime, particularly in the warmer weather, but this is not the fault of the product and a simple touch up with my pressed powder fixes the job for the remainder of the day.
Removing the mousse is an effortless task where I use baby lotion or Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish. I cannot speak highly enough of this product as I never believed I would find a suitable replacement for my Boots No 7. However, as this is a matt mousse I believe it would be best suited to those who suffer with oily or normal skin as I'm of the opinion that it may be a little drying for those who suffer with dry skin. I do not believe in copying lengthy lists of ingredients into my reviews unless I have suffered with any problems whilst using and this is not the case with this product.
The mousse should be used within 24 months of opening with the jar being recyclable once empty. Maybelline Matt Mousse is available in a large variety of shades ranging from the lightest being Natural Beige and the darkest being Cocoa. The 18 ml jar is currently available from Boots for £7.69 with this product being part of their current "3 for 2" cosmetics promotion.
I can award nothing less than 5 stars to this product, which receives a high recommendation from me.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
