E.L.F. Duo Eyeshadow Cream

~About E.L.F~
Eyes Lips Face (ELF for short) first started in New York in 2004, by American celebrity and beauty professional Scott-Vincent Borba (the man who founded Hard Candy's cosmetics line in 1995 in LA).

ELF provides cosmetics for as little as £1.50 and their mineral makeup up to £3.50

They manage to keep their prices low by not using high prices advertising. Rather they use the Internet for branding and word of mouth.

To say the cosmetics are cheap doesn't mean they skimp on ingredients. ELF are said to use the best ingredients for their cosmetics.

ELF has been named in many TV shows and magazines including, GMTV, This Morning, Hello Magazine, Marie Claire, Glamour, Grazia, The Times and many more.

ELF came to England on 27th November 2007 and they have not looked back. It is ran by brother and sister Neil Phillips and Jo Westlake, from ELF HQ in Swansea.

~About the Product ~
Theses little pots of cream eyeshadow have been seen in Stella magazine and was rated one of the best cream eyeshadows, coming close with Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown. Now that has got to be something?

ELF state there cream eyeshadow are crease resistant not crease proof, so they will crease if not careful. So don't be fooled by what you read and take it the wrong way.

When you're looking on their site the pots look quite big on screen but again don't be fooled when purchasing them they really are small but for £1.50 you get a lot for your money as you get two colour coordinated coloured creams in each pot. A lighter shade to put on your eye lid and the darker colour to put on your crease and outer corner for more definition.

~Where to buy and Price of Product~
You can purchase theses off ELF's site www.eyeslipsface.co.uk and they cost £1.50 each.

~Packaging~
The duo eyeshadows come in a little black plastic pot with a screw lid. The top of the lid is see through with writing elf Duo Eye Shadow Cream in black. With the pots I got the names aren't at the bottom of the packaging as you would expect.

~Personal Review~
I bought Butter Pecan, Mocha Swirl and Berry Mix.

Butter Pecan: lightest shade on the website looks more peach. In real life it is more of a gold/bronze colour. The darkest colour on the site looks brown and real life is brown/dark brown. When theses colours are swatched at the back of my hand and on my eye lids both colours are high pigmented, creamy and very easy to apply.

Mocha Swirl: lightest shade on the website looks a light pink in real life is it more of a light silver/shimmer pink. The darkest colour on the site looks a nice light brown and in real life it is more of a dark brown. When theses colours are swatched at the back of my hand and on my eye lids both colours are high pigmented, creamy and very easy to apply.

Berry mix: lightest shade on the website looks a light frost lilac and in real life it is that. the darkest shade on the site looks a dark red and in real life it is just that. When theses colours are swatched at the back of my hand and on my eye lids both colours are high pigmented, creamy and very easy to apply.

I have oily eye lids and when I first applied them I first applied power over my lids and applied the cream eyeshadow to see how it would stand. Within half an hour it was creased and nothing left on my actual eyelid. Very disappointed.

So I thought what about applying a primer first? I tried MAC Prep and Prime, Gale Hayman Lip and Eye Primer, primer from cheap brands and other primers from well known brands. If the primer is applied thickly then forget it, it will crease again. If it is applied thinly then you have more of a chance of it not creasing. I have also found if the primer you used before with power eyeshadow and you had a bad experience with that then you will get the same when applying a cream eyeshadow.

In my makeup bag I also had MAC Paint in Bare Canvas and have used this in the past as a primer and it worked an absolute treat. I applied a thin layer over my eyelid and above the crease, applied the lightest shade on my eye lid and the darkest colour on the outer corner and blended slightly. I found you don't need a lot of the cream eyeshadow as it is well pigmented. I left it a few hours and went back to check if it had creased yet. To my surprise it was the same as when I first applied it. YIPPEE. But the next few hours after that I noticed slight creasing, I just wiped it back or applied a little more and it was like new again. I will be doing it this way from now on.

I love my power eyeshadows don't get me wrong but cream eyeshadows are so much easier. Especially if you don't have a lot of time. Apply theses with a good primer or whatever works for you. A little eyeliner, blusher, lipstick/gloss and your out of the door. Perfect.

Would I buy again?
Yes cant wait to get the other colours :-)

Summary: Great if your in a rush but want some eye colour on.

That is where I was going wrong, MAC Paints worked best for me. Good luck and let me know how you get on with them.

It sounds like I need a decent primer first!
