ELF Cosmetics Liquid Eyeshadow
I went onto ELF's website when they had their launch of their new products in November. ELF mostly promoted their Studio line of new cosmetics but what they forgot to mention to their customers was the other new additions they had bought to the ELF family. One of them was their liquid eyeshadow. ELF has something similar in a duo cream eyeshadow, which they have had for a long time selling for the almighty price of £1.50 each, they have 9 in total with three brand new ones. Their cream eyeshadows are okay but sometimes crease in the day!
When I saw they had a liquid eyeshadow I was intrigued, although I like my powder eyeshadows sometimes I just need something quick, easy and simple that will last the day, so I bought four colours of £1.50 each. ELF state this liquid eyeshadow dries water tight finish giving you endless staying power that will last all day. Now this is the bit I was very interested in, ELF state this liquid eyeshadows won't crease or smear and won't budge until you take them off. I am SOLD!
I have had liquid eyeshadows before and the company has said they won't crease or fade, and what do they do after a few minutes? Yes they crease and look a mess and that is with ones that cost a lot more than £1.50. So I was a little dubious about buying these but I wanted to give ELF the benefit of doubt and give them a try. ELF has eight different shades to choose from.
I bought four colours, which are:
~ Green Machine: this colour looks very much like dark healthy grass with lightly gold shimmer.
~ Misty Mauve: this colour is a lovely light pink shade with silver/gold shimmer.
~ Sultry Satin: again a lovely light colour that looks more of peach/gold with shimmer and
~ Mocha Madness: this is a beautiful dark brown/chocolate shade with gold shimmer.
As with all ELF's delivery it was quick, when I opened the package I thought they we're bigger than I expected them to be as on ELF site everything looks bigger and when you get it home you need to dig out your magnifie glass to see where you've put it. But this time I was surprised it actually looked a "normal size" for them.
The products we're nicely packaged, each come in a straight plastic tube, the bottom half is clear so you can see the product and the black shiny lid is the same size as the clear part. You have elf Liquid Eyeshadow written in black on either side of the tube. The wand itself is like a lipgloss wand with a sponge applicator.
I decided before I tried the colours on my lids I did a swatch on the back of my hand to see what ELF say are true. I applied a little of each product to the back of my hand and gently tapped it in. Straight away you can see the beautiful colours and its shimmer. Where I applied it that area felt cool.
Even though I tapped the product in and rubbed with gentle circular movements, the product never lost its pigment. It dried on my hands very quickly and when I tried to rub it away it did not budge at all! I am very impressed.
The next day I tried the products out on my lids but before I applied the liquid eyeshadow I first lightly dusted my eyelids with translucent powder so it takes the greasyness away on the lid and he liquid eyeshadow has something to adhere to. Because it is a liquid eyeshadow I don't normally apply a primer before as this tends to crease but it is trial and error.
After I dusted my eyelids I first applied a light colour called Sultry Satin, the sponge applicator felt very soft and not at all scratchy. The product felt cool on my lids and it was easy to blend with great colour pay off. I first rubbed the product in gently with circular movements with my ring finger so the product was where I wanted it to be and then I applied a little more and gently tapped it in all around the lid. I closed my eyes for a bit and then I applied the brown colour called Mocha Madness. I applied this on the outer corner for a more defined look. Because the first colour had dried I found it was harder to get the second colour to blend and I had to resort to taking a small eyeshadow brush, damping it and smudging both colours together. It didn't look bad but it didn't look brilliant. Thankfully none of the colour came off as I was only blending both colours.
For the other eye I decided on a different tactic. I first applied the light colour and blended into my eye lid quickly, I then took the brown and tabbed a little on the outer corner and blended before both eyeshadows dried. This is such a better way of applying this and looks a lot better.
After I applied my gel eyeliner, mascara and off I went.
I am very pleased to announce after all day of wear there was NO crease what so ever and it never budged. Because my eyes are hooded most liquid eyeshadows crease or my gel eyeliner smudges onto my eye lid. There was none of this and I am absolutely over the moon with these.
I have worn each colour a few times now and it is so quick and easy to do my eye makeup in the morning and I still look great by the end of the day.
I cannot wait to add the other colours to my collection.
Summary: Great liquid eyeshadow from ELF
