An ELFy haul
This was yet another one of the products I picked up in my E.L.F. haul earlier this year, but is one of the last ones to be reviewed! For those of you who aren't familiar with E.L.F., it stands for Eyes Lips Face and is a company that was launched in America. As it has no high street presence it manages to sell the vast majority of its cosmetics for the super-cheap price of £1.50!
These eye colours come in eight shades, including silver, pink and green. The one I am reviewing here is called Sultry Satin and is a goldy bronze shade - although it looks lighter on the website. The product promises to "dry to a water tight finish to give endless staying power so you can take your look from day to night without looking faded". The colours are supposed to dry quickly so they don't crease. I usually use a primer under my eyeshadow but I decided to try this one out without to really test the non-crease claims!
Simple and functional
The eye product comes in a tube with a sponge applicator hidden inside the lid of the tube - all is revealed when you unscrew the lid! The packaging is fairly straightforward, as you would expect for this price, and is very functional. In the tube the product has a very metallic shine to it - it seems quite modern and a little bit edgy! I would describe the shade as in-between gold and bronze.
Although there is a sponge applicator, I prefer to apply this using my fingertips, so I use my fingers to take some of the liquid off the tip of the applicator. I always find that applying eye shadows with my fingers gives me more even coverage! While this product goes on smoothly, I did feel that the coverage wasn't completely even - the nature of the product meant that for me it was quite tricky to get the coverage just right, and you may need to fiddle around a bit! Also the liquid dries quite quickly so you have to be a fast worker to get this how you want it!
Once on, the colouring is a little more subtle than it appears in the tube - it is not quite as pigmented and gives eyes more of a metallic sheen than a full-on layer of colour. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on the effect you want, and I guess you could put on a second layer after the first dries!
So does it have the staying power that I was promised? Surprisingly yes - I was pretty impressed with how long this stayed put on my eyelids, even without my eye primer. It lasted me pretty much all day without creasing and, for a liquid shadow, I really have no complaints about this.
So do I like it?
Overall, for the price, I was really impressed with this little product. It does what it says on the tube, and gives a really nice metallic sheen to the eyes. But for me, overall, I still prefer my powder shadows! I just find them a bit easier to apply and layer as I want, and I can blend different shades which I couldn't do with this. But overall I'm giving it a well deserved four stars.
Summary: Pretty good for the price!
