Advantages: I can't think of any
Disadvantages: See review
When I had finished choosing the items I wanted to order on the e.l.f. site I realised I only had to spend another pound to qualify for free delivery, otherwise it would be £2.95. I had bought things from almost every section on the site except nails, so I had a browse there, and saw a really cute new colour called Blush in the nail polish line.
There was a lot of choice, 24 nail polishes to choose from, ranging from Clear and White to Dark Navy and Black. Blush polish looked like a very nice peach-pink colour so I added it to my virtual basket and headed to the checkout.
It arrived packaged in a black card box almost twice the size of the polish bottle, with a window in the centre that you could see the whole bottle through. The box was a bit unnecessary, I've never bought boxed nail varnish before.
I try to be balanced in reviews on this site, but I have nothing good to say about this nail polish.
Continuing the theme with my e.l.f. reviews, the polish I received was a much darker colour! In fact it was metallic bronze. Yet again I had to check whether I had been given the wrong item, but no, it has 'Blush' on its base. Why would you name what is clearly a deep bronze colour a name you would ascribe to a pink colour? It makes no sense!
In case anyone thinks I might be mistaken this is the link for the nail polish. (http://www.eyeslipsface.co.uk/product~prodID~62.h tm) Blush is near the end of the list, and it's not remotely bronze! I wouldn't pick up a metallic colour from a shop shelf because they don't suit me.
Now onto the product claims. The website says this - 'e.l.f. proudly introduces the new and revolutionary nail polish drip bottle. This colour-lock formula and chip resistant shield gives long lasting nail colour with high shine. The aerodynamic bristle design glides colour on flawlessly, while the quick dry formula gives perfect application every time. Key nutrients give nails that natural shine, infused with Vitamin E for stronger healthier nails.'
1. I don't have a clue what is revolutionary about the nail polish drip bottle. It's a squarish chunky glass bottle with a black plastic top. Actually the funny thing about the bottle is that the lid doesn't always close level. Right now it has screwed shut at a forty five degree angle to the bottle!
2. I don't know anything about the colour-lock formula but it's not chip-resistant. Mine chipped while I was washing up, about 7-8 hours after applied.
3. 'Aerodynamic bristle design'? (also described as revolutionary on the box) Don't make me laugh! If you click on the clear polish shade on the site you can see the brush. It's hardly aerodynamic, in fact the bristles splay out and are far too soft to give much control at all.
4. Quick dry formula? No, about average. About five minutes till it stopped being tacky.
5. It's hard to see evidence of nutrients and vitamins in nail polish. It was too sheer though, it took three coats to cover my natural nail colour. One coat of bronze - sorry, Blush - just gave me the nail colour of a heavy smoker.
It's the first thing from e.l.f. I'm really disappointed with. It's not the £1.50 that's the issue, technically it saved me money with the free delivery, but I wanted the colour I chose! The name should be representative of the shade. If the blush colour on the screen hadn't made me think it was a blush colour, then the fact that they named it 'Blush' would have!
Summary: Seriously e.l.f. sort out your colouring system!
