Advantages: Cheap and works
Disadvantages: None
I am a huge fan of ELF cosmetics - well I like most of their products anyway, some are a little cheap and tacky but one of my favourite ever ELF products is their make-up setting spray.
Before I discovered this I was using fix plus by MAC which is nearly double the price of this! A 60ml bottle of the ELF version retails at £3.75 while the MAC version retails at £7.50 which is quite a big saving and considering that I use it on a daily basis and need to re-purchase it quite often, the saving comes in handy.
Despite the price difference, the quality is exactly the same. This is quite a basic item so I wasn't expecting the difference to be huge and it isn't - it does the same job and does it just as well. The make-up setting spray is just like water and it comes in a small, black plastic bottle which has the product information written on it in white writing. The packaging is basic, but not cheap or ugly looking. The bottle has a spray mechanism which releases a fine mist of the spray when it is pressed down.
As the bottle is quite small it is a handy size to take with me to a friend's house if we're getting ready for a night out. I do wish that there was a larger version available as well though because a small bottle only lasts me for a couple of months and it's annoying having to regularly re-order because of the ELF delivery charge. The setting spray is alchohol free and contains aloe, green tea, cucumber and Vitamins A, C & E. Using the mist couldn't be easier - I hold it arms length away from my face and then spray it over my face. I find two sprays is enough for foundation but if I am wearing eye make-up I usually use three sprays.
It is quite cold and feels wet when I first apply it and it doesn't have that refreshing kind of effect that fix plus has, but within 30 seconds or so it is completely dry. The spray does not leave any shine, residue or stickiness on my skin, nor does it feel oily/greasy and once applied it is not noticeable on my skin. It does not feel heavy or like a layer on my skin either. When I initially spray it onto my face it does have a mild cucumber scent which smells quite nice and not at all artificial but the fragrance soon fades. The spray doesn't alter the look of my make-up at all and it keeps it in place and looking like it's been freshly applied all day - around the eight hour mark.
It stops my eye shadow from creasing and fading and it stops my eyeliner fading and going bitty and gathering in the corner of my eyes. It also prevents my foundation & concealer from going patchy and looking faded. It keeps my make-up looking great and it is gentle on my skin too - not at all drying and it doesn't irritate my skin. ELF claim that it's soothing and moisturising which I haven't noticed but it's certianly not at all harsh on my skin. I highly recommend it and give it five out of five stars.
Summary: 5/5
