      • "Long Lasting"
      • Quick

      Disadvantages

      • Drying

I'd have paid twice the price happily

As a user of cruelty free products elf is a budget friendly brand I love, this was one of the first products I tried from them, and I ordered the colour Rich Red- a true blue toned red that makes teeth look whiter.
The lipstick comes in a twist up format which is fabulous for lazy girls like me who can't be doing with that sharpening business! The packaging is matte black and looks more expensive than it is, the pencil like tube also stands out from the rest of my lipsticks making it easy to find in my collection, handily the tube also has a colour indicator on the bottom which would be handy if you own a few of these beauties.
The colour applies smoothly, although can cling to dry areas, and lasts a fantastic amount of time, it an even withstand some drinking and eating, although you may want to keep the kissing to a minimum. For a budget brand this lipstick is fantastic although slightly drying, but as this is a matte formula this is to be expected and I have suffered far worse from higher end products. For only £3.75 for 1.8g this bargain is easily my most used 'going out' lip product, I just love a classic red.
I am eager to try a few of the other more neutral shades, in particular natural- a perfect everyday nude and tea rose a stunning brown/ pink toned rose colour that should look great with my fair skin.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      5/5

I read a review on a beauty blog a few months ago which mentioned the ELF matte lip colours and decided to buy a couple to try because they sounded great.

At £3.75 per 1.8 gram lipstick they're extremely good value for money and after having a look at the swatches I decided to buy 'rich red' - a deep blue red shade and 'tea rose' which is a dark baby pink shade. There are four other shades available and I didn't really like the look of them from the swatches but they include a beigey colour, coral, an orangey brown and a very light pink.

The colour choice is pretty good and there's a shade to suit everyone. The lipstick is part of ELF's studio range of cosmetics which are marketed as being top rated professional makeup that's super affordable and easy to use. The lipstick isn't in the average lipstick packaging and instead the tube is shaped like a long, chunky eyeliner pencil. The packaging is made from sturdy black plastic and it has got the product and brand name written on the side of it.

There's a small band on the bottom of it which has a swatch of the colour that the lipstick is so it is easy to tell which lipstick is which just by looking at the packaging which I find handy seeing as I have it in two different shades. The lid pulls off easily and underneath there's the lipstick which is a good size and it looks a bit like a jumbo sized crayon nib. I usually apply lipstick with a lip brush so that it's neat and precise but because I can hold this just like a pencil it is really easy to apply it and I find it quite fun!

The lipstick glides over my lips and it is not at all waxy or drying, nor does it feel heavy on my lips. The formula is lovely - really soft and creamy and it is fragrance free. It is enriched with vitamins A, C & E and it makes my lips feel quite moisturised which for a matte lipstick is quite unusual but I'm not complaining! Although it doesn't feel dry on my lips, it does highlight any lines, cracks or dry patches so a base of Vaseline is always necessary before applying it and I usually exfoliate my lips prior to using it as well.

The finish is really impressive - bright, bold, well pigmented lips and the lipstick looks a lot more expensive than it is. However, it is not actually fully matte and it does give my lips a very slight sheen which is extremely subtle and definitely not glossy. It is almost unnoticeable in some lighting and it isn't in your face or anything - personally I like that it is not fully matte as it makes my lips look moist and healthy and it also means that I don't need to apply lipgloss over the top. The lipstick lasts for a few hours before going patchy and starting to look faded and worn but it is quick and easy to re-apply due to the packaging design.

Removing it is quick and easy as well. It is not non transferrable and it does make a massive mess if I kiss or snog my boyfriend which is a minor disadvantage!! It is not drying on my lips though and it looks amazing for the price so I highly recommend it. Five out of five stars.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      An excellent offer from ELF.

When ELF had a promotion on last year that offered their Studio range matte lip colours for just £1 instead of £3.50 I had to give them a go and purchased 3 different shades, however the price has been raised recently to £3.75. After rediscovering them this past couple of weeks (this is what happens when you have drawers of new products plus your everyday items things get lost or forgotten about!) I decided it was time to give a review.

This is basically like a twistable crayon that you apply to your lips giving them a lovely colour that is not the regular shiny, sticky feeling but a muted effect on the lips. I really like the packaging for this product, they are like felt pens but with a crayon interior, this is twisted up so there is no need to sharpen the end, or have any problem with not being able to use up most of the product. I also like that the whole pen is black, it looks sleek and despite having for at least a year it hasn't lost any colour or faded so it assures me this is made of quality materials. At the bottom of the pen a centimetre band gives a peek of the colour inside and I think that it is pretty representative of the colour inside.

There were 4 colours to choose from when I purchased mine however this is the up to 6:

Coral: This is a peachy looking shade with orange tones to it.
Natural: This is a natural peachy colour with a hint of pink to it. This is definitely my favourite, it gives colour and definition but is not overpowering.
Nearly Nude: This is a newer one and is a peachy shade.
Tea Rose: This is a pinky colour a little darker than the natural but it provides a really nice colour to the lips. I use this solo without eye-shadow as it seems to clash.
Praline: This is a slightly pink colour with brown undertones, it's definitely not my favourite and for me as a very light blonde with pale skin this is a little too dark for me but it would suit darker skin tones.
Rich Red: This one is one of the newer ones but is a deep red looking colour.

I found this lip colour exceptionally easy to apply, The way it is packaged means you can use it like a pen and draw the colour onto your lips. I didn't find the colour stick to be weak or brittle in any way. It's pretty strong and very durable which I am extremely happy with. My lips can be dry every so often and using the lipstick solo can mean that it becomes patchy in area. I use a lip balm underneath, I find that his doesn't change the application or the end result of the product but protects and repairs my lips while ensuring the colour is evenly spread instead of patchy. The colour glides over the lips extremely smoothly and leaves a coating of colour without too much excess clumping in the corners. There is no smell or taste to the product at all which being applied to my lips I am happy with. You don't need a lot of use to get an even colour, this means that I have found the pens last so much longer than a regular lipstick. I find once applied the colour has a matte finish to it that I am a little happier with than the shiny, in your face colour that some products can give you. I was also impressed that the colour stayed applied to my lips for a good few hours. While eating and drinking it does come off sooner but without this it tends to last for a while which is a definite bonus.

After using this product my lips feel moisturised and soft and so I do believe that it contains vitamins A, C and E to hydrate and moisturise. I think these studio lip colours are excellent value especially when there are so many more expensive products at just £3.75 and cheaper with codes from the company these are exceptional value. I don't use these on a regular basis but I have used each of the three colours I have multiple times and they are barely even used in the slightest so I assume these will last for a very long time which I am very happy with. I would definitely recommend giving these a try.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A matte lip pencil for day & night

Most ELF products are a hit and miss but everyone seemed to throughly enjoy the ELF Studio Matte Lip Colours so I decided that I needed to see what the fuss was all about!

      Packaging:
The packaging is a slim black tube (as are all the Studio line items) and along the side 'Elf Studio Matte Lip Colour' is written in white. On the end of the tube it has a strip of the colour of the lipstick/lip pencil going across but if you open it up it is a sharpener- which I find quite useless because isn't the whole point of the lip stick in a lip pencil form so that you do not need to sharpen it? The slim packaging makes it easier to stick in your bag or purse but the writing on the side rubbed off literally in the first couple of days I got it. I'm not really melodramatic if the writing rubs off but it's useful and convenient for the writing to stay put. The lipstick is a slim pencil and is in a twist up format. I quite like this because I think it serves the purpose of a lip liner and a lipstick as it stays put.

      Product:
I bought 2 of the 4 popular shades at the time (They have now come out with an additional 2) which were Coral & Natural. Coral in my opinion is a soft pink with a bit of peachy undertones to it. Natural is a muted pink that has purple undertones to it. When you apply this lipstick as it is a TRUE matte product make sure you lips are exfoliated and moisturised - you know the drill. Because this product will not be so forgiving and will cling onto every flake. It also does sink into fine lines but a good lip balm prior to applying prevents that. As it is matte the colour last for quite some times, an easy 4-5 hours which is reasonable, but with a gloss on top it lasts for about an hour, ha! I think that when you apply it, draw it on the pat the colour in otherwise I think it just sits on top doing nothing. The pigmentation of these products is crazy so I do not think you would feel the need to build it up otherwise it will look cakey. These lip colours last for 24 months which I think is really good because not everyone likes a matte lip every day and so you will not be losing out on any product because you had to chuck it away.

      Availability:
This comes in 6 colours: Coral- soft pink with a bit of peachy undertones, Natural- muted pink that has purple undertones, Tea Rose- darker than natural and has more purple undertones , Praline- is a muted plum colour with a bit of brown undertones, Nearly Nude- which is a nude but more on the peachy side. & Rich Red- the colour is in the name it is definitely a rich red but a bright red (think grandma red). (REMEMBER: that apart from the colours that I do not own, these descriptions are coming from swatches from blogs and such so the colour description may be off). You can buy them on the ELF website for £3.75 (although I bought them for £3.50)

      Verdict:
Love the colours and how much product you get. If you like matte lips this is definitely for you but if you do not you could always add a bit of gloss on top :)

      Hope this helped! x

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A nice lip colour with a great matte effect!

I'm always looking for an alternative to lipsticks. I've never been a massive fan of chunky lipsticks and hardly ever have found one that actually stays.

These lip colours appealed to me because it was a matt colour which i've never previously tried. There are currently 4 colours in the range and for the most part the colours available are quite pinky/peachy and so there are no bold colours which is a little disappointing. This pen retails through eyelipsface.co.uk for £3.50 - but look out for e.l.f's frequent sales and you are bound to get it even cheaper.

The pen itself is nice and big and in order to expose more of the lip pen you just have to to twist. You never have to sharpen the pen either, it is essentially a lipstick but in a much thinner form. The colour applies really nicely and because of the thin tip it allows you to achieve good coverage neatly.

For me the matte effect was the thing I loved most about this product. It made my lips look full and didn't have the usual shiney effect which was just a bit more striking. The staying power was ok - a few hours. But like any other lipstick once it came into contact with a drinking glass or having had food you inevitably find yourself having to re-apply and this lip pen was no different.

All in all, despite not having great staying power this is still one of the most used lip colours in my collection and I would recommend it highly.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

I have always stayed away from matte lip products, now I love them.

      ***Why I want the product***
I have never bought a lip product that is matte before as I am always worried about it drying out my lips but ELF Cosmetics had a recent discount on their Matte Lip Colour from their usual price of £3.50 to just £1. It was an offer I could not resist and for £1 what a great chance to try the product out.

      ***About the product***
ELF Cosmetics say this jumbo size lip pencil creates the exact colour application that is in the tube. It is a twist tube so you never have to sharpen the product. The pigment rich colour glides on the lips with ease that helps to provide a lost lasting lip colour. Matte Lip colour is enriched with Vitamin A C and E, the product helps to moisturise and hydrate the lips for a nice plump look.

Currently there are only four colours to choice from, which are Coral - which is a lovely natural peach colour, Natural - which looks like a nice nude colour with a slight pink undertone, Tea Rose - a light to medium pink and Praline, which looks a deep red with orange undertones.

      ***Packaging***
I always love the way ELF Studio range come packaged, they always look sleek and more expensive than it really was. ELS Studio Matte Lip Colour comes in a slim matte rectangle shape with a little cut out on the right hand side so you can see your product.
The front of the box says Matte Lip Colour in silver, which complements the black background. The bottom of the box shows you the colour you've chosen. The back tells you about the product, directions of application and ingredients. As all lip products the shelf life is 24 months and the box is recyclable.

The product packing is very nice and extremely reminds me a lot of MAC Shadestick, which costs a mere £13.50. The tube is matte and very stylish with the colour on the bottom for easy access of the colour you want to wear.

***Applying the product, and how it feels***
As with all lip products this application is no different. The only difference this time is making sure you are lips are free from any dry patches as the matte colour will cling onto these areas. The good thing I have found with this product is not shaped like a 'normal' lipstick but more like a felt-tip pen so you can use this product as a lip liner and then colour in your lip.

The lip colour even though it is matte it doesn't scratch the lips, instead it glides on to an opaque finish with no nasty smell. On naked dry lips the product feels creamy but looks matte, however, on dry lips I am left with rough, cracking lips within a few hours, which requires more lip balms, exfoliation and TLC. When my lips are in really good condition and I apply the product onto naked lips the product lasts around two to three hours in perfect condition as long as you are not licking your lips and constantly eating or drinking.
There is some transfer into cups as you would imagine but the matte colour seems to cling onto the lips without a lot of transfer or the entire product disappearing after a few sips.

Usually I have to wear this product with tiny amount of lip balm underneath just for extra moisture boost through the day. The trick is not to apply your lip balm and Matte Lip Colour on top as the colour will slip off, you need to blot your lip balm and then apply the colour. Once applied over your lip balm the product glides on beautifully to an opaque finish that is smooth with a little sheen, but still with the matte finish.
Even applied over a lip balm the product can last on the lips a good hour or longer depending on what you are doing.

      ***Price and availability***
I was very lucky to receive these products for £1 each but the usual price is £3.50, which I still think is fabulous for the money. You can only purchase this product from eyslipsface.co.uk

***What I think about it/do I like it?***
For the price like other ELF products at the moment I really like it, I like how you can have a little colour on your lips and made an effort without looking too made up especially in the mornings.

Even though you get a smallish amount of product, with daily use it can last me longer than a month.

      ***Would I purchase again?***
Yes I would, I would love to purchase for a lovely £1 again but I do not think that will happen for a bit.
