I love using lip balms and glosses so when I got the chance to buy some cruelty free make-up at a Vegan Festival I jumped at the chance. I thought this E.L.F Super Glossy Lip Shine looked as good as the expensive brands I normally can't afford. I bought the gloss in a shade called 'Iced Latte'. I should point out that this shade is actually quite dark brown but on the brand's website looks quite light.
The gloss comes in a 10g sized soft tube with a screw on top and a slanted hard plastic tip which has a dispensing hole on it. You can use the tip to smear the gloss over your lips although I find it easier to use my finger because the gloss is quite thick in consistency.
The brand state this gloss "fights environmental damage" since it has SPF protection in the formula (all shades except 'Angel' do). They say that the gloss has a sweet fragrance which will appeal to ladies.
The gloss does indeed have a very sweet scent which reminds me of caramel. This does make using the gloss more appealing. In terms of texture the gloss is incredibly thick and almost tar-like or like melted chocolate. It is incredibly difficult to use the applicator alone to apply as the tube does not glide over the lips. You also have to pump the gloss out of the tube before you start to have enough to rub over the lips otherwise the applicator goes dry before your lips are covered.
The gloss is very sticky and heavy on the lips. I can feel it all the tip and sometimes feel a bit conscientious about it not being even since it is so thick you can really see when the gloss hasn't been applied evenly. It is not a lip gloss you can just apply on the go, you have to be more precise about applying it well.
As I mentioned the shade I have is much darker than the online shop picture shows. The colour is more of a burnt caramel or milk-chocolate shade with a hint of silvery shimmer. It does have a very glossy, shiny appearance though and is excellent at reflecting the light. It can look very glamorous when applied well. The gloss is long lasting as it is so dense it doesn't rub off the lips easily.
At only £1.95 a tube I feel the lip gloss is under-priced as you get quite a lot and it lasts for a long time. I would actually pay more for this despite the fact that it's not the favourite gloss in my collection. I would like the consistency of the gloss to be just a little more fluid for best results. However, I would definitely buy this again.
Cheap and cheerful e.l.f
e.l.f is a very cheap brand of make-up that originated in the States ad is now available here. It's an online-only retailer, which means its overheads are low - meaning cheap make-up for us!
A lot of the products on the site cost a mere £1.50 - although there are "pricier" ranges available too. This lip gloss comes into the £1.50 category. I have tried quite a few e.l.f products in the past with mixed results but for £1.50 you can't go wrong - and I do like my lip glosses so was keen to give this one a try.
This gloss comes in about 13 different shades, from clear through every shade of pink and purple you can imagine!
The e.l.f website promises that the lip gloss has a "delicious flavour and sweet scent will leave you licking your lips in delight!". The lip gloss also has an SPF 15 formula "to fight environmental damage while leaving your lips with a healthy glossy glow".
For some reason the shade of gloss I ended up getting is actually a bright orange colour ... it's called Party Peach but in the flesh it really is very orange. Needless to say this did worry me a bit, but I was hoping the gloss would be sheer enough not to leave me looking like I'd overdosed on Tango...
Sticky and plasticky...
Luckily the gloss is quite sheer so although it does definitely have a hint of orange to it when I apply it, this isn't at all in your face, and once it's applied and I've rubbed my lips together, there is a slight hint of colour but nothing dramatic, and it does leave my lips looking nice and shiny. It also does have a fruity flavour ... but it does taste a bit plasticky to me too. This is something I've experienced in the past with cheaper lip glosses and although it isn't overwhelming, it is a bit unpleasant and does cover up the otherwise quite pleasant fruity aspect of the lip gloss!
Once applied this does feel nice and smooth on the lips - if a touch sticky - and luckily the flavour seems to disappear quite quickly!
Perhaps unsurprisingly at this price this lip gloss doesn't have good staying power. It seems to disappear quite quickly, and certainly wouldn't survive drinking a cuppa or eating a meal! So it does need frequent reapplication.
Overall I am in two minds about this gloss. For the price it is difficult to be too mean about it, but it is a very basic product. It does leave lips looking nice and shiny, but it doesn't last that long, and the taste is a bit unpleasant too. So although it's nice and cheap, I doubt I'd buy it again - I'd be inclined to spend a bit more on a gloss that lasts a bit longer - and tastes a bit nicer!
I first heard about e.l.f. (eyes, lips, face) on Twitter, as I follow a lot of beauty bloggers there was a lot of hype about the products and the cost of them (you can buy nearly every product for £1-£3.). I didn't purchase any myself but actually won a few products in a competition, the Super Glossy Lip Shine being one of them.
This is a lipgloss, which is available to buy from e.l.f. online for £1.50. It comes in a clear plastic tube, and is a pinky/mauve colour. It is applied by squeezing the product out of the tube directly onto the lips. It has a slanted end to allow you to spread the product to achieve your desired look (similar to Lancome's Juicy Tubes). It also contains an SPF of 15, which not many lipglosses do.
I was very impressed by this product. The colour is a nice pink tone and will suit most people. It looks very natural once applied. The lipgloss does exactly as it says on the tube and is very very glossy! It isn't very sticky, which I find can be a problem with some lip products, but still gives a good gloss which lasts throughout the day. If I wear this rather than my usual Vaseline, I find I reapply it less often and only need to put it on 3-4 times a day, rather than 7-8. It leaves my lips feeling soft and smooth and doesn't dry them out.
This tube has lasted me about 4 months and I use it 2-3 times a week. For £1.50 I recommend this product as I think it works better than some high end glosses. I will definitely be repurchasing this again, the only disadvantage I can think of is that you wouldn't be able to wear this over a lipstick due to the colour. But as it is so nice I don't think you would need to.
I know what you're thinking: Another ELF product! Honestly it's because I've been quite impressed with the brand so far, and some of the products I've been reaching for more often have been ELF products.
My lips tend to get sun burnt once summer starts so I was looking for a lip product with a spf. I didn't want to buy the usual Vaseline lip products because I find them a bit boring for everyday use. I was browsing on the ELF website when I came across this product. I read some reviews and they were mostly positive so I decided to buy this in watermelon which looked like a nice bright pink colour on the website. This lip gloss is available in 13 shades.
What ELF says:
This Super Glossy SPF 15 formula fights environmental damage while leaving your lips with a healthy glossy glow. The delicious flavour and sweet scent will leave you licking your lips in delight! The perfect on the go tube that is mess proof for anywhere and anytime!
'Angel' # 2801 is our only shade that doesn't contain SPF15 but is packed with gorgeous glittery bits instead.
Apply to lips as often as desired. Can be worn alone or layered.
The lip gloss comes in a plastic squeezy tube which is clear so you can see the lip gloss inside. It has a screw on lid so you can toss this into your bag without worrying about spillages. It has a slant tip applicator which allows you to apply the lip gloss easily, or you could use your finger if you so please. To use you just squeeze the tube gently, and a small amount of lip gloss is dispensed which you can then smooth over your lips.
The lip gloss
The lip gloss looks bright pink in the tube and is actually quite true to colour although it does go on a little sheer. It does look quite glossy and shiny, unlike some lip glosses that don't really give a shiny effect. The scent is absolutely lovely-it is fruity and smells quite like strawberries, but once applied it is quite subtle so the scent shouldn't be a problem. It feels a little sticky, but I don't mind this, and I think this is what gives the lip gloss its lasting power and moisturising properties. It does last for a good few hours, and the best part is that even after I eat or drink, it doesn't come off completely. It makes my lips feel soft and moisturised and doesn't dry them out. It also prevents my lips from getting sunburnt, and as this is what I bought it for, I am quite satisfied with it.
Price and Availability
ELF products can only be purchased online at www.eyeslipsface.co.uk. This lip gloss retails at £1.50 and you get 10g of product at this price which I think is excellent value for money. There is often some sort of offer or sale going on at the ELF website so search around for offers before buying.
Not a luxurious product, but does the job well. The staying power is good, is looks nice when worn, moisturises your lips, protects from sun damage and is affordable. There's not much more I can ask for in a lip gloss, so I definitely recommend this.

The e.l.f. super glossy lip shine was a product which I received free with a recent elf order. I do own a lot of lip glosses, but this isn't a product I would have chosen to purchase myself and certainly not in the colour I was sent - mauve luxe, which is a shade much darker than anything I usually wear. Still, I'm not one to pass up on a freebie, and I have found that glosses I've bought in the past which have looked dark in the packaging have gone on much looking sheer, so I decided I would give it a fair chance.
e.l.f. is not yet a very well known brand in the UK, but it is one that is growing in popularity. The initials stand for eyes, lips, face and they are a brand that originated in the US. The idea behind the brand was to offer a range of high quality cosmetics at bargain prices, and the majority of the range is just £1.50, although there is a slightly more expensive studio range priced at £3.50 and the odd product which costs more. I've used quite a few products from the range and found them a little hit and miss, so I honestly didn't know what to expect from this product in terms of quality.
The products packaging promises many things from this gloss. It says that it will give long lasting shine without being sticky. It will moisturise and soothe lips on contact and the SPF15 will protect against sun damage and ageing. I do actually quite like the fact it contains an SPF (sun protection factor if you're not familiar), as people often forget to protect the lips from the sun and it's not something I would necessarily expect such a cheap product to have.
There are 10 colours in the range. These are a range of pinks and browns but there is also a white colour called Angel which interestingly is the only one in the range that doesn't contain SPF - instead it contains a shimmer.
The lip gloss comes presented on a card and is packaged in a tube. The name of the gloss is in shiny silver and although I don't think the packaging looks particularly like a premium brand it isn't cheap looking either. The lid of the tube screws off easily and reveals a slanted tip with a small hole through which the gloss is dispensed.
Application of the gloss is very easy. It glides onto the lips very smoothly and the angled tip aids in giving precise application.
The colour of the gloss, as suspected was not quite as dark when on the lips. It looked a deep reddish brown in the tube, but on my lips it seemed very red, and although I never thought I would wear a red lip colour, I actually really love it.
The shine the gloss gives is subtle and not over the top. It gives a slight glossy sheen, but because the colour is rather solid, I feel it is the colour that you notice first, rather than the gloss.
The gloss has a very slightly sweet taste to it, and I cannot feel when it is on my lips. I often find lip glosses to be rather heavy and sticky, so was happy that this wasn't the case here.
Longevity is always a problem I have with lip gloss. Unfortunately I found that as soon as I had a drink the majority of the gloss transferred onto the cup I was drinking from. Likewise, when eating, the gloss vanished completely from the lips. If you can manage to avoid eating or drinking, unfortunately I found that you will still only get around 1 hour of wear per application...I think that sweet taste has something to do with it, as it's far too tempting to lick it off!
The gloss claimed to moisturise on contact, and I found that claim to be true. It felt very moisturising on the lips and after it had come off, my lips felt similar to the way they do when I have applied a lip balm.
A 10g tube of this gloss costs £1.50 from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk. At the moment e.l.f. products are only available online, but I personally hope one of the big stores starts selling them, as I know they are available in some supermarkets in America.
Overall, I found this to be a better product than I had originally anticipated. It moisturises the lips and looks good on, and best of all it's cheap as chips! The only downside is that the staying power is not too great, but if you're looking for a budget lip gloss, then I would recommend giving this one a try.
E.L.F Super Glossy Lip Shine with SPF 15
Before I begin my review of the specific product I wanted to take a moment to explain what ELF is and where to find them. ELF, standing for eyes lips and face are an online store that sells makeup products for bargain basement prices. ELF offer a wide range of makeup from mineral makeup, to their own line of Studio based makeup and items from their basic makeup catalogue. What initially caught my attention (as well as a few glowing reviews on dooyoo) was the makeup price tags, most of all their items cost £1.50 or £3.50 (or some are somewhere in between unless you plan on buying any larger gift sets). Although the prices initially drew me in and tempted me to make that first purchase unless you get something that you like and would use, it can't really be classified as a bargain no matter how cheap the product might be. As you might expect from a cheaper brand of makeup certain products and items differ drastically in quality, there are some that I really like while others have been a bit disappointing. To date, I have only placed two orders to ELF online (both over £30 to take advantage of the free delivery option) and more often than not I have been pleased with my purchases, this super glossy lip shine is one that I have been more than pleased with. If you are interested in trying some of the makeup for yourself you can find everything available at - eyeslipsface.co.uk.
This is quite a strong pigmented lip gloss and when I first apply this it does give me a good covering of colour rather than just a subtle more translucent effect, which some lip glosses offer. At the time of writing this review there are 10 colours in total, ranging in a multitude of light pinks to more reddish or orangey pinks as well as a clear option. I initially bought the 'mauve luxe' shade which is one of the darker options available. Personally, I find that purchasing makeup online can be a bit of a hit or miss affair because you can't see the texture, quality, and in particular just get a sense whether the shade or colouring would suit you. Thankfully, ELF does provide you with photo images showing the colours available and so far in my experience it is quite a good representation of what you will receive.
Personally I quite like my lip glosses to have a nice scent with it, I adore Lancome's juicy tubes and I am always looking for a cheaper alternative to stop me buying so many. ELF describes the scent of this lip gloss as grape vanilla. It reminds me of a sweet I used to like as a child (but I can't quite pin point it), it is sweet but very, very appealing. However, I don't really pick up much of any vanilla fragrance. The Scent is also quite mild and after you have applied this and let it settle I hardly even notice the smell any longer, so this is great for the people out there that don't like overly scented makeup. Unlike the Lancome juicy tubes regardless of the shade of lip gloss ELF only offer this in one specific scent, so again great if like me you enjoy it, but it might put you off this whole range if the fragrance isn't to your liking, which would be a shame.
However, as much as I like this lip gloss don't expect it to deliver everything that the more expensive brand products tend to do. This ELF super glossy lip shine doesn't provide any moisturising balm aspect such as my Clinique or Lancome lip glosses do. However, that being said this doesn't leave my lips feeling dried out after wearing it, in fact far from it but it just won't help to repair them or soothe any chapped lips.
When applied this lip shine does feel very nice to wear, it feels quite thick but without being overly sticky or with any tacky feeling. ELF describes this as a super glossy lip shine. However, personally I would probably describe this as just a lip shine. When you first apply this it does give my lips a nice shine but it isn't super glossy and after a minute or two of wear it can look like you just have a shiny lipstick on rather than a gloss. However, even if this isn't a super glossy lip shine I have been very pleased with the results from using it and I tend to regularly wear it.
One thing that this lip gloss definitely does well is that it delivers an added SPF 15, which makes this a great makeup essential for the summer, but one that I like to use all year round. For the very low price of £1.50 you get 10 grams of the super glossy lip shine that does last for quite a while, of course depending upon if you apply this as heavy handed and often as me. ELF have used my favourite type of lip gloss applicator, the one with the slanted surface that you simply squeeze the desired amount onto and then smooth over your lips making applying this gloss both easy and quick.
This is one of my favourite products from ELF and the next time I place an order I intend to try out a few of the other colours they have on offer. Therefore, this gets a good four out of five stars from me, this is definitely one that I recommend trying. It loses one star for the name being slightly misleading, this really isn't something that I would classify as being super glossy but I still think that it is a fabulous lip shine.
My new favourite cosmetics company is E.L.F., which stands for Eyes, Lips, Face. They are an online retailer and their UK web store can be reached at this address http://www.eyeslipsface.co.uk. They have several different ranges of make-up, including their Basic, Mineral, and Studio lines. I love wearing make-up and have great fun experimenting with colours and different looks. It's nice to have lots of products to play around with but there are always a few items that become must-haves and form the basis of most of my 'faces'. I tend to opt for brightly coloured or heavily lined eyes and keep my lips looking natural.
This lip gloss is part of the Basic range and comes in a range of 10 different shades including naturals and brights. It costs just £1.50 for a 10g lip gloss tube. You can view the shades by looking at the colour swatches or view supersized images of the finished product. I selected the shade Goddess as I though it would be versatile and complement most looks.
E.L.F. say: "This Super Glossy SPF 15 formula fights environmental damage while leaving your lips with a healthy glossy glow. The delicious flavour and sweet scent will leave you licking your lips in delight! The perfect on the go tube that is mess proof for anywhere and anytime!"
I was surprised to find that the Super Glossy Lip Shine comes packaged in a blister pack with a cardboard backing. I had thought that with this being part of a budget range they would have saved some production costs by not providing a packet, but it was not the case. I found this a little wasteful, but it was useful to have all the information that was provided on the back. The gloss itself comes in a plastic squeezy tube which is see through, allowing you to easily see how much product you have left. The applicator is a slanted tip with a small hole in it that forms the end of the tube, and is protected by a screw on lid.
To use, you simple squeeze the end of the tub, allowing a small amount of product to come through the hole on the applicator tip. Then spread the gloss evenly over your lips, and get ready to pout!
I selected this gloss in the shade Goddess, which on the website looked like a shimmering golden pink. In real life, the gloss is much more of a copper tone with a slight tinge of pink. This is definitely not a true pink at all, but I am actually very happy with the colour and it looks absolutely divine with a natural look or with metallic eye make-up. The colour goes on quite densely which is a nice change from some glosses that can look washed out and give only a sheer layer of colour. You can vary the amount of colour you want by spreading the gloss further and blotting over both lips if you want something more subtle but I really like the level of shiny colour that you get from this gloss. You get an almost metallic sheen with a really shiny glossy finish that is as good as some of the more expensive brands I've tried. Unlike other lip glosses this one does not contain any glitter, so you get a nice clean glossy look without OTT sparkly glitter, which makes it really wearable and will suit any woman of any age.
The slanted tip gives a smooth and even application, and allows you to sweep the colour evenly over your lips to get a full coverage. The tube packaging is really handy to carry around for on-the-go touch ups as it is small and practical, and really easy to use without fiddling with brushed or wand applicators. The gloss is very smooth and leaves my lips feeling soft, they do not dry out at all even by the end of the day. My other half has even commented that this lip gloss is less sticky than the other ones I have in my make-up collection, and actually allows me to kiss him while I'm wearing this! ;) As a little bonus the gloss has a lovely sweet taste that it actually quite yummy, and has a nice soft smell that is also very sweet. ELF describe this scent as "grape vanilla" but I would definitely say it's more vanilla than fruity.
The only bad point is that it can wear down after a couple of hours, and I usually reapply it every few hours through the day. Even when it has worn off a bit, you only really lose the full depth of colour, I find that even if I don't have time to re-apply my lips lack the full colour that I get from the initial application, but the gloss still leaves behind a lovely sheen which is still coating my lips and keeping them moisturised.
I almost forgot to mention this, but it's a really important aspect of the product. By wearing this lip gloss you are gaining protection from sun damage as it contains SPF15. It's vital to use sunscreen products to protect your skin from sun damage, but lips and other delicate areas can often be forgotten. This is a really easy way to gain protection, most girls slick on a bit of lip gloss in the morning and it only takes a few seconds out of your morning routine.
I think this is a really fabulous lip gloss. The level of colour and shine are excellent, and the gloss feels really smooth and moisturising on my lips. The added bonus of SPF15 is fabulous, and for just £1.50...well I'll definitely be going back for more and will be choosing a range of colours to suit my every mood! A really good quality product at a bargain price that I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Ingredients: Paraffinum Liquidum, Polybutene, Silica, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Benzophenone-3, Ethylhexyl, Methoxycinnamate, Titanium Dioxide, Red No.7, Calcium Lake, Red No.6 Barium Lake, Red No.27 Aluminum Lake, Red No.40 Aluminum Lake, Blue No.1 Aluminum Lake, Iron Oxide.
I first saw ELF (Eyes lips Face) advertised in a magazine last summer, I had a look at their website (www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) and almost imediately placed an order.
I've just received my 3rd order from ELF, elf super glossy lip shine was one of the items I'd ordered.
A number of things attracted me to this item, firstly the price, most of the ELF products cost just £1:50, secondly this lip shine has an SPF 15, this is great for the summer, I have used other lip glosses before without SPF and burnt and blistered my lips (not a look I'd recomend), there is also a good selection on colours, I chose juiced berry, this shade is almost clear and gives your lips a nice gloss, I like to wear it with a lip liner.
This lip shine stays on my lips, I put it on in the morning just before I walk out the door and I don't usually have to re apply until after I've eaten my lunch, I feel this is good for a lip gloss.
I would say it is slightly sticky, but saying that it makes my lips feel really soft and moisturised.
It comes in a soft squeezy tube, It's clear so you can see the colour of the gloss through it, it has a slant tip applicator, you just squeeze a small amount of the gloss out and then it glides smoothly over your lips, I use the applicator on the tube, but you could use your finger to apply it if you prefer.
The packaging states this item is hypoallergenic, the active ingredients are: benzophenone-3, octyl methoxycinnamate and titanium dioxide.
Each tube contains 0.35oz or 10g of gloss.
I use to use Lancome juicey tubes, but I'm an ELF convert now.
I bought this lip gloss along with loads of other e.l.f products in a bid to cut back the amount of money I'd been spending on cosmetics. This, like most of their other items, costs only £1.50.
It comes in a squeezy plastic tube, which looks quite nice and you can see the colour of the gloss through it. It has a screw off lid which fastens very tightly so it won't come off in your make-up bag.
The applicator is basically just a slanted bit at the end of the tube with a a hole in it. You squeeze the tube to get some gloss out onto the end of the applicator, then just smooth it over your lips.
I found this gloss quite hard to apply at first, because it doesn't go on smoothly. It's really thick and sticky, which means it doesn't spread easily over the lips, so I have to do a lot of smoothing and patting it with my finger to get it applied evenly.
Once it's applied evenly it does look very nice. The colour I chose is called Candlelight, which is a nice light pink, and it does look very nice on. However, this gloss is called super glossy, and I really don't think it lives up to it's name. It isn't really glossy at all, it's more shimmery than glossy, and it doesn't have a lot of shine to it or that wet-look appearance that I would have expected.
It feels ok on the lips, fairly moisturising, but a little too sticky for my liking if I'm being perfectly honest. It doesn't stay on long either before I have to reapply it as it has just completely disappeared from my lips all together. I could see me getting through the tube very quickly because I have to reapply it so often.
The only really good thing about it is the fact that it has sun protection in it, spf15, and it is nice to know that your lips are protected. But that doesn't anywhere near make up for everything it lacks, and I would not buy it again.
