Advantages: see review

Disadvantages: doesn't do what it says

Normally I wear khol eyeliner along the lid of the my eyes but during the summer I decided to try this waterproof eyeliner pen from E.L.F (www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) to try and prevent any smudging or running due to the hot weather. The pen cost me £1.50 as most of E.L.F's products do and once it arrived I put it to work!

The pen comes in standard packaging on a piece of card and is the same size as a biro. It tells us the pen has "a new improved formula" and "smooth glide applicator" and is "long wearing waterproof eyeliner". On the back it says "get no smudge, no budge eyeliner that lasts hours" so I was expecting this to last and last!

The pen itself has a lid that is just pulled of and clicked on and mine is black. There are 5 colours to choose from and I can highly recommend everyone stays away from the plum one in any brand as it makes us look red-eyed and hungover!! Anyway back to the pen. The tip is like a long felt tip pen tip and the actual case of the pen tapers in towards this tip so you can hold it easily. I find E.L.F often have very good shapes to their make up and this pen does feel nice and easy to control.

I only wanted to apply a line along my upper lashes so I first prepped the area with some face powder and then braced me and my shaky hands for the job. I found this didn't go on great actually and it was like the pen was drying out even though it was new and I kept having to tip it nib down and give it a shake to get more liquid to the tip. However I did eventually get the right amount on and it feels just like someone has drawn along your eye with a marker pen, very wet for a short while. I left it for a good few minutes before it stopped feeling wet so this is not one you can apply other make up near for a while but as I'm used to khol rather than liquid liners I think this is fairly normal.

I decided to test this rather than assume it would be waterproof as I find alot of waterproof products are so far from waterproof they may as well call them soluble! I dabbed a bit of water on the liner and it smudged and budged straight away! Not impressed I reverted back to khol and deicded to give this another trial for the purpose of this review.

I moisturise my eyelids when I do my face so I thought it might be that because moisturiser has oil in it so I applied a line to my bare hand, no moisturiser or make up underneath, and waited for that to dry. Once dry I touched my finger to to the tip of my tongue so it was only just damp and lightly dabbed the line on my hand. Again it smudged immediately so I can conclude this is not waterproof at all! It is very much soluble!

So sadly, even though E.L.F do some great products this isn't one of them. It smudges and budges easily with the slightest bit of moisture, it doesn't apply quickly or easily and the pen dries out every few seconds. I wasted only £1.50 to establish this but I was still disappointed because it didn't do what they claimed it would at all. Not recommended I'm afraid girls and this is going in the bin. One star.
