Elf liquid eyeliner
Eyes, Lips, Face was launched in New York in 2004 and was subsequently launched in the UK on 27th November 2007
This liquid liner comes in 9 shades: Coffee, black, midnight, ash, plum, silver, stardust, copper and pearl.
Each costs £1.50 and I got the black and the copper. I will review each one separately as it is not just in the colour that they differ
Black liquid eyeliner. This comes in a 5ml tapered black plastic bottle. There is no smell to the product which I like. The consistency is quite 'runny' but not enough to drip when you are applying, and it does mean the product doesn't need to be put on with any pressure. I usually use the No7black liquid liner which comes in a slightly bigger 6ml bottle but is more expensive @ around £8. The main difference between the two is the No7 has a fine brush so has quite a 'floppy' tip which requires some skill to apply. The elf on the other hand is more of a rigid tip which to me feels like a felt-tip pen. I wasn't sure whether this was to my liking at first but actually it is easier to use especially if your hand isn't the steadiest. I use it to line close to my upper lashes before mascara and also on the bottom if I am doing a 'flicked out' cat eye. Staying power for the money is good and this product can be easily removed.
Copper liquid liner. This also comes in a 5ml tapped bottle. The main body of which is clear plastic so you can see the shimmering copper liner and the tapered handle is in black plastic. This to me this has a slight nail varnish type smell which isn't as unpleasant as it sounds. However, the consistency is quite sticky and the product takes a while to dry. So the result is if you blink after applying on your upper lashes the product ends up on your eyelids and beneath your brow. It's a shame because the glitter particles I really like especially for a night out. The wand is the same as the black review above i.e. felt-tip pen like.
All in all given the price, application and staying power for £1.50 you can't really go wrong.
E.L.F Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner!
Another item from my elf basket! After the disappointing elf eyeliner pen I didn't have very high hopes for this product. But it was quite happy with the result! The liner has a very fine tip which is a bit fiddly and a bit more difficult to control and keep steady so I wouldn't use this if your a liquid liner virgin! Only for experienced eyeliner uses to attempt really as it can leave you looking like something out of the rocky horror picture show if you don't know what your doing! It gives a really strong and defined line which you can really play around with, doing flick, curves and straight lines, it is very precise and it is a really strong colour.
It is not like the pen at all, it is really quite good and it dries quite quickly as well which means you don't have to spend lots of time in front of the mirror! Which is really good if you need to get on and go!
They come in so many colours, most eyeliners come in three colours only, black, brown and maybe blue. But it comes in a whopping nine colours, from gold and pearl to plum and ash! A great product and from again £1.50 who can complain!
Thank you for reading my review, I hope it was helpful! :D
I bought this along with loads of other e.l.f products in an attempt to cut back on the amount of money I had been spending on cosmetics. As with most other e.l.f products, it costs just £1.50.
It comes in a black plastic 'jar' type bottle. The lid is in the form of a long handle which screws into the top of the jar. At the other end of the handle is the applicator tip, which is like a felt pen style brush tip. This sits in the liquid when it is in the jar, so that when you take it out of the jar there is liquid on the applicator ready to use.
The handle is nice and easy to use and has a good shape so you can grip it easily, and the length is just right to allow you full control over the liner so you can get just the effect you want. It's very easy to get either a very thin or thicker line with this liner, it gives a really precise application, and it goes on nice and smoothly and doesn't drag over the skin.
The only thing I would say is that the liquid is very thin, a lot thinner than most liquid liners, so I find that it sometimes can be difficult to get a solid line as it seems a bit thin and wishy washy and goes on a little transparently rather than as a solid block of colour. this just means that sometimes you have to go over the same area twice to get it to look black enough.
When it works, it works really well and it does look really good. the black is a nice deep black and not too shiny, and it dries fairly quickly so you can get on with the rest of your make-up pretty much straight away.
It stays on pretty well in normal circumstances and I find it doesn't smudge or run easily, but it is not in the slightest bit waterproof and will rub off or run with even just the tiniest amount of water, so if your eyes water you've had it. Of course this does mean that it's dead easy to remove.
I think this is a fairly decent eyeliner for the price, but I won't be buying it again as I do really need a waterproof one that's not going to budge.
I have the grey and the black of these and so far they remind me of the W7 liquid eyeliner in the fact that they dry to a strange plastic-y finish almost like glue! This seriously puts me off the product as if you rub your eyes during the day it will not smudge your eyeliner but can peel it off your eye completely! They are, however, very easy to apply with a nice, precise felt tip style applicator. There is a decent amount in the bottle and they do not seem to dry up (I accidentally left the brush and bottle separate over night and it didnt dry out). They are £1.50 each from elf's website eyeslipsface.co.uk but they often have discount promotional codes that can be found online or if you subscribe to there emailed newsletter. Overall, I think that I would rather spend a little more money on a liner with a better formulation, but for practise applying eyeliner these are a good place to start!
~ E.L.F ~
E.L.F stands for eyes lips & face. The website, eyeslipsface.co.uk is the sister site to eyeslipsface.com, which is very popular in America. It is known for selling very cheap beauty products, in America, everything is a dollar (yes, everything!). However in the UK it's not as cheap (but still very cheap) at about £1.50 for each product. E.L.F never planned to send products in the U.K, but because of their huge success in America, they decided to go to the UK market too. The UK site is still fairly new; it has been up since near the end of 2007.
~ The Product ~
E.L.F Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner comes in three different colours, Coffee (brown), Black, Midnight (blue), Ash (grey) and Plum (purple). Each different eyeliner has a different colour bottle, Coffee obviously brown etc. As it was very cheap at £1.50, I decided to get the Black & Plum Eyeliners. It comes in a 5ml applicator bottle. The bottle has a long thin screw on lid, which makes it easier to apply, with the bottle small & black. The bottle simply reads: e.l.f Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, in silver letters. It was quite small but it lasted a lot longer than I expected. I expected the actual applicator to be a few thin hairs, but instead got a felt tip style applicator, which I've found doesn't apply as easily as my Rimmel eyeliner, which the applicator is a few thin hairs. Because of the felt tip style applicator, the eyeliner comes out quite thick so I'd advise using it on your top eyelid.
~ Performance ~
The website claims "No more tugging or pulling on your eyelids with this easy glide liquid eyeliner. The waterproof, smudge-proof liner is rich in colour, creating a long lasting defined look. The fine tip brush creates easy and precise definition for natural or dramatic effects". I agree with most of this statement. It does easily glide onto your eyelids (though once or twice it was been a little too watery and almost ran before it had dried), and is quite waterproof. You do have to have a steady hand to use this eyeliner, as with any other eyeliner, but as sometimes it runs, it's probably not the best liquid eyeliner to start with if you are a beginner. I found that when it had dried, after a few hours it would fade quite a bit, sometimes flaking off when I touched it. The colour is quite rich in colour so I can't argue with that. This eyeliner is probably best for someone trying to get a dramatic effect, more than a more natural look. The eyeliner is easy to remove, but only if use an eye make-up remover. I found that it lasted quite long, up to about 6 hours. Once I fell asleep with it on and when I woke up there were no smudges or black eyes, just bits of eyeliner on their own where other bits of eyeliner have flaked off. It had also faded ever so slightly. The last point is the smell! In my experience, my eyeliners have smelt, well like nothing! But in this case, it smelt quite overpowering. It smelt slightly chemical. However, it's not so overpowering that you can smell it from miles away, and that your friends can smell it, but if you smelt the bottle you'd get quite a strong chemical smell, almost off-putting.
~ Advantages ~
* Only £1.50!
* Quite rich in colour
* Waterproof indeed
* Good lasting power
* Easy to remove
~ Disadvantages ~
* Sometimes runs when not dry
* Flakes off a little
* The smell! Would be better with a different type of applicator
* Fades a little
~ Overall Verdict ~
E.L.F Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner is quite satisfactory. Although there are quite a few disadvantages (which brings the rating down), it is only £1.50! Most other liquid eyeliners are over £2.00, so this really is a bargain. The fact that it actually is waterproof makes me recommend it to potential buyers, you never know if you might turn on the water works or get itchy eyes!!
Eyeslipsface.co.uk is the sister site to american eyeslipsface.com. It is an online shopping site for makeup and cosmetics, and is sometimes referred to as ELF (eyes lips face). Its main claim / attraction is that (almost) everything is £1.50! In america it is cheaper still at $1 per item!
The ELF company has only been shipping to the UK since November 2007, but is already very popular.
~What the website says~
No more tugging or pulling on your eyelids with this easy glide liquid eyeliner. The waterproof, smudge-proof liner is rich in color, creating a long lasting defined look. The fine tip brush creates easy and precise definition for natural or dramatic effects.
The disposeable packaging is simple - a cardboard backing with plastic over over the eyeliner. All around the product is written things like "Fine Tip Brush", "Creates easy, defines and precise lines", "Long wear eye colour", "Waterproof and smudge proof", "Rich, deep, luminous colour", "Fine brush tip creates both natural and dramatic effects". The actual product is as the image shows - a small pot with an extra long handle.
~The performance of the product~
You get 5ml of liquid which lasts a very long time. The brush is not hairs as I thought it would be, but a felt tip style. I didn't know that this was the case, and I dont really like this style because they are not as flexible, the quality deteriorates rapidly and they produce a thicker line. However, the point is very thin, so it is easier to apply than I thought. I would only recommend this to experienced eye liner wearers because it is waterproof so if you make a mistake it is harder to get off.
The colour is strong, I wouldn't really call it "luminous" but I am not too sure what a luminous liner would look like! I like the colours available - Coffee [a reddish brown], Black, Midnight [a royal to navy blue], Plum [a deep purple] and Ash [a silvery grey]. Ash is my favourite because not many companies to a grey eyeliner, but it is much more subtle and I have fallen in love with it!
The liner is very waterproof, but takes a while to dry first. It is also abit tricky to wipe off after, unless you use a good makeup remover - I find Simple or Garnier Eye makeup remover works best. The colour lasts all day and doesn't flake or fade.
This product is best for those who are experienced and want to experiment with colour, as well as a thicker eyeliner line! Great for £1.50, highly recommended to potential customers!
