Advantages: Soft and soothing, subtle enough for blokes to use too

Disadvantages: No staying power

Now me being the irresistible pulling machine that I am, my lips have to be in tip top condition for all that snogging, and I often suffer with dryness and cracking, especially in the winter.

I am normally a devoted slave to the genius of Vaseline, but have you ever noticed how those little retro tins are so incredibly flaming impossible to get open?! After weeks of struggling, I suffered one broken nail too many, and went on a hunt for an easier replacement.

I popped into Boots, and astonished at the array of lip care available, picked up the E45 Lipcare stick. The actual packaging is pretty easy to spot - check out the picture supplied at the top - and the actual balm comes in a white tube. The balm appears in a twisty motion - very easy even with gloves on, hurrah!

Now E45 claim the balm is 'For dry and sensitive lips', and with all E45 products, is dermatological. The balm itself is really soft when applying, it immediately feels soothing and protective. It's brilliant for everyone to use unlike some lip balms, as it has virtually no taste and leaves only a very subtle sheen on the lips.

I only paid about £1.50 for this, which I didn't think was too bad. I've only had it for a couple of days, and have found myself applying it every couple of hours. I think at that rate it will last maybe a month, if not longer. So not bad for £1.50!

The tube is incredibly light so easy to carry around with you, and will fit into the teensiest of purses for you ladies, and will pop nicely in a pocket for you guys.

On a slightly negative side, although the affects of the balm remain for a couple of hours at least, the sensation of wearing it on your lips disappears after a fairly short time, which I find really annoying. It also has no staying power at all, so if you're eating or drinking it'll disappear. However, if you have particularly sore lips, popping some on a few minutes before you begin to eat or drink may make it slightly less painful and irritable.

There's not really much more I can say about this lip balm. E45 are a trusted and respected brand, and don't disappoint with this gem. Ideal for use under your normal lipstick/gloss, and brilliant for blokes with it's incredibly subtle sheen, you can't go wrong.

I would definitely buy it again, and will be doing so. As much as Vaseline will remain the classic, give E45 a chance, so much easier to use and brilliant to quickly apply - it's a lot less messy than Vaseline! Oh and a nifty little 'click' at the bottom of the tube should mean that you avoid the whole 'gloopy mess in the lid' situation.

And as for my lips? This stuff has done the trick, and they'll remain soft and kissable ready for a bit of mistletoe action! (Providing I don't actually have Glandular Fever which is a possibility at the mo… uh oh!)

Just to re-cap - I paid £1.50 for this in Boots, and it's widely availble in various chemists such as Superdrug and the supermarkets.

Thanks for reading,
K xxx

Summary: Brilliant for keeping your lips nice and soft, but disapointing staying power

I've used E45 cream for years but never seen (probably because I never looked) for this product. Thanks. Sue
