Ed Hardy Love Kills Slowly
Advantages: presentation, price, quality, large mirror, perfume!
Disadvantages: the colours won't suit all so there might be some wastage
Ed Hardy (of Christian Audigier) offer a clothing range and a collection of fragrances. They also offer two make up kits (Blue Geisha and Pink Love Kills Slowly). I own the pink version which is an 18 piece make up set. The difference between both sets is the colours and the overall design.
I receive my make up kit as a gift and I quite like it! It is more suited to girly girls in my opinion. This make up kit is made up of eyeshadows, lipglosses, a bronzer, solid perfumes and brushes.
~Price and Availability~
This make up kit can be purchased from Amazon priced at £16.99. There are many available on eBay priced from £9.99.
This isn't a regular make up kit - it is much more! The outer box features the Love Kills Slowly skull logo and is attractive. Inside, there is a very colourful, cardboard box with the same design on a pink background. The box folds out to reveal a well designed make up kit. There is a large mirror and two 'doors' which feature 5 spot lights each. These lights switch on when the box is full opened and are very bright so applying make up is a doddle. When folded up, the kit is fairly slim and compact.
The make up items are arranged into different sections and the majority of the items cannot be removed from the box. They are all beautifully arranged and everything is easily accessible. The whole set up is eye catching and attractive. When the doors are opened, the kit looks robust and secure as well as very girly. The overall appearance of this kit reminds me of a make up table backstage at a theatre. It looks much more expensive than it actually is, is very portable and is easy to wipe over with a baby wipe or cloth to keep it clean.
A make up kit is useless to me if it looks pretty but has poor quality make up. Thankfully, the make up in this kit is of a decent quality but not premium quality. I wear make up often and will admit that this is one of my favourite kits. I took it on holiday with me recently and the only other make up items I needed to take were mascara and eye liner as these are not included in the kit. There is a decent amount of each product present in this kit.
There are 6 eyeshadows present with a total weight of 10.2g. The round eyeshadows are very powdery which results in a little mess if I am not careful with applying them. I am not keen on the designated eyeshadow brush as it is a doubled ended, bristle type brush rather than a sponge so I much prefer using my fingers to apply the eyeshadows. The colours won't appeal to all but I quite like them - some more than others. They are mainly matte but one or two look like they have a very subtle shimmer through them.
Here we have a mauve colour which is quite subtle on the eyelids. The dusky pink is a joint favourite and looks girly when applied. There is shimmery white which I favour too as it looks fresh and brightens up my eyes well. The mint green is quite pale and not the best shade. The remaining shades are very dark and include a purple and black. These are perfect for wearing in the evening if I am going out.
The eyeshadows are fairly easy to apply providing I do not pick up too much powder at any one time. Some shades are very subtle and need building up to a more noticeable strength. The eyeshadows look smooth on my eyelids and do not crease easily. I find the colour lasts for a few hours so not as long lasting as some other eyeshadows I own. Overall I find the eyeshadows to be of a decent quality but nothing special.
There are 6 lipglosses/colours in the kit. The double ended applicator provided is the perfect size for applying the lipglosses provided. The shades on offer would appeal to most and there is a good selection. Whilst I wear lipgloss regularly, I much prefer applying it directly from a tube and favour light, subtle shades over strong, bold colours hence why my lipglosses do not get as much use as the other items in this kit.
The lipglosses have different textures. The first two in the box (a chocolate brown shade and a red shade) have a creamy texture which is very easy to scoop up with the designated brush. The other lipglosses are more solid and I find I need to sweep the applicator over the surface a few times to gather enough colour. Regardless of how solid or creamy they are in the kit, each lipgloss is easy to apply and fairly moisturising for my lips.
The chocolate brown colour is much nicer on my lips than I would have expected. The baby pink and silver shades aren't my favourites as they look quite cheap and a little bit too young for me. There are two darker pink shades in the kit which are quite bold on my lips are simply *too* noticeable for my liking though this would appeal to others who favour coloured lips. I prefer to make the most of my eyes rather than my lips but that is a personal choice. The lipglosses offer a pleasant shine and aren't overly sticky. They last about the same length of time as any other brand - a few hours. Re-applying through the day may be difficult unless you are willing to carry the kit in your handbag so this is something that should be considered.
Overall, I quite like the lipglosses but prefer a tube.
The bronzer in this kit is a big round affair and contains 8.5g of product which will last quite some time. A good sized, soft brush is provided which is perfect for applying the bronzer. I prefer blusher over bronzer but quite like the bronzer in this kit as it is a light-medium shade and like to suit most skin tones. The brush provided is easy to grasp and skim over the surface of the bronzer to release just the right amount of powder.
The bronzer itself is very light and gentle on my skin. I only need to sweep the brush across my cheekbones twice for a noticeable colour. I would say the bronzer acts as the perfect highlighter and doesn't look over the top on my pale skin. It gives my cheekbones are nice glow and has a touch of shimmer through it but nothing major. The bronzer lasts well on my skin and is noticeable several hours after application. I particularly like applying this instead of loose powder or blusher for a healthy glow and it is perfect for warm evenings as it doesn't look or feel heavy on the skin.
The perfumes are what make this set extra special for me. I am a big fan of Ed Hardy perfumes and they have kindly supplied us with an 8g tin of 'Love Kills Slowly' and an 8g tin of 'Love and Luck'. The tins can be removed from the set and popped in your handbag. The tins are beautifully designed and inside each tin is smooth, beautifully scented solid perfume. The surface of each perfume is quite firm and I need to allow it to melt slightly under my finger before applying to my pulse points.
Love Kills Slowly is the original Ed Hardy scent and is absolutely gorgeous! It is an addictive, fun and fruity scent. It doesn't last as long as a spray perfume does but wears beautifully on my skin. Love and Luck isn't quite as favourable but is still lovely in its own way. It is more of a deep, evening scent with sharp fruity undertones. It lasts quite well on my skin but it isn't one I would purchase in spray format.
Overall I do like this make up kit. It looks fab and the make up is quite good. I feel this would make a lovely gift for a teenager but I am in my mid 20's and do really like this kit. The lights have stood the test of time and are still going strong. The overall design appeals to me and is inkeeping with the Ed Hardy brand. I keep my set tidy by wiping it over regularly and by cleaning my brushes. The make up lasts well and even with regular use my set looks barely used.
I feel the current eBay selling price is a bargain for this make up kit and can highly recommend it.
Thanks for reading :)
