***Why I want the product***
With my pale skin I always need a blusher to make me look alike otherwise people tend to think I am feeling ill that day. Going through my blush stash I realised I do not have a baby pink blusher or a shade in that description, which would look great for a nude look or great if you pair it will a smokey eye. Something that is not in your face and does not clash with my other makeup.
Because of this I headed straight to the ELF Cosmetics website as I know how good their Mineral Blushers are.
***About the product***
I love mineral products in general and went for ELF's Mineral Blusher in Joy, which on the website looks a beautiful baby pink blusher. Getting it home with it still being a lovely colour it is slightly darker than on the website but still in the shade of my choice. Joy is also the lightest shade in this range.
I have another blusher from this range called Rose, which is a beautiful red with pink undertones but not in your face when applied. Gives a lovely flush of colour to the cheeks. I love the colour Rose so much I am on my second pot.
As it is a mineral blusher I was interested in the ingredient list. There is nothing in the small ingredient list that I can see that can cause irritation or breakouts. It does contain Titanium Dioxide, which is known as a sunscreen and pigment.
As the blusher is a mineral blusher you receive 3.4g of product, which you can see in a transparent tub with a sifter to get your product out. This blusher has a shelf life of three months but I have to day mine lasts a lot longer than that as long it is out of sun light.
***Swatching the blush***
Swatching the colour to the back of my hand I am so happy that the blush does transfer as a baby pick blusher that looks soft and natural. The blusher with a tiny amount of pigmented. On my hand it feels soft, silky and blends really well.
***Applying the product, and how it feels***
With all my blushers I use an angled blush as I find this works best for me. When I've tipped a tiny amount of product into the lid my brush picks up the product really easily
I find with ELF blushers less is more and you can end up with a lot more product on your face than you intended so it is better to build the product up a little at a time. Sweeping the blusher along my cheeks with such a tiny amount I am glad I made the right choice with the blusher and the brand as it is so pigmented, soft on my face and the shade Joy is a lovely shad of pink that really go with any outfit or makeup choice, which is what I was after and was what I received.
Blending in the edges of the blusher to make it look like the flush has come from within in easy and effortless, while still providing me with the colour I desire. With the price of this blusher I would expect to pay more than what I have.
As far as I can tell the blusher has no shimmer and looks matte on me, silky on the face without scratching. I find it gives a natural flush to my cheeks without being over the top, this blusher is also buildable if you prefer to apply more.
It lasts a long time on my combination skin with maybe a slight touch up in the day, but honestly I can get away without touching up at all.
Taking the blush off at the end of the day was easy, very easily removed with no traces of shimmer left on my face.
***Price and availability***
ELF Cosmetics sell this blusher and other shades for £5.00 for 3.4g of product.
***What I think about it/do I like it?***
For the price this blusher is brilliant in every way. It is easily a blusher that you can wear everyday with any look or even great for a natural look but want a flushed look. Perfect price, perfect pay off, no irritation or breakouts from this blusher.
***Would I purchase again?***
Yes I have re-purchased before and I will again.
I have been purchasing ELF products for a couple years now so have tried a variety of products this brand offer. They quite often have special offers so I buy in bulk when they have free delivery or something similar. Some products I find are a case of you pay for what you get, however, this is one of the more better quality items the brand offers. As a fan of the ELF mineral foundation I wanted to try the mineral blush range.
It is priced at £5 for a pot with net weight of 3.4g .It comes in a range of 7 colours, while this may not sound like many there are shades to compliment all skin tones. I personally have used the shades 'joy' and 'coral'. Joy is more of a lighter, more subtle shade than Coral. ELF make the promise that their mineral blush range are 100% mineral based with no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes. For this reason mineral make up often recommend for those with skin conditions that may be irritated by harsh, heavy make up.
This mineral blush comes in a screw lid pot that has a 'sifter'. With the lid on, shake the pot upside down and the product will fall into the lid. A word of warning, I sometimes find the lid FULL of the powder if it was been shaken about in my handbag so caution is advised when opening. The packaging is sturdy and in years of use, I have never had a pot break or crack.
I find that this product is very pigmented, more so depending on the shade. So, depending on the look you are after a little can go a long way. This means both the pots I have, have lasted a very long time which is very good value for money. It is a very subtle, natural looking blush that is easy to build on for the more dramatic look. I do not experience the 'fall out' I do with some blush (powder going where you do not want it to) as it is a quite fine powder. For this reason it is very easily blendable and does not look 'caked' on. It has great lasting power and does not need to be reapplied throughout the day. I use the ELF studio kabuki brush or ELF studio blush brush to apply, any kabuki brush will work with this product as long as it is soft and not scratchy.
For £5 you get an amazing blush that will last you a long time. Even if you think that sounds a lot of money for a pot you will not need to repurchase often. With 7 colours that vary you an find a great shade for your look and skin tone.
Eyes Lips Face Mineral Blush - the shade is Joy (described as "mauve lilac" on the website), it's a very wearable somewhat off-pink colour.
Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Boron Nitride, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate. May Contain: Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI77499), Maganese Violet (CI77742), Ultramarines (CI77707).
The easiest way to use this is as directed on the website. I tap a very small amount into the lid, swirl with a blush brush and apply to the apples of my cheeks.
In small amounts on my skintone (fairly pale, cool undertones, "english rose" type complexion) it can also work as a brightening highlighter if carried across the cheekbones or can be swept across the face to give a small amount of natural looking colour - as it's not a bright pink this looks very natural.
What's it like?
The important part - is it a good blush? In a word, YES! The blush is very highly pigmented so you really only need a very tiny amount for a glowing look - like most mineral powders it's buildable if you find you desire a stronger look, so how strong it looks is really up to you. And as said they can work as a highlighter if you pick the right shade (although not a stated use) - I use what's left on my brush after doing the blush. You could also easily layer colours, ie sweep one colour across your cheekbones and use a 2nd just on the apples, they're very versatile.
The finish is I would say dewy/natural - it's not matte but I'd not describe it as full on shimmery, it's a level nearly anybody could wear. Some shades are listed as shimmery so I would assume the finish to be slightly different on these. They really just give a very healthy natural glow.
They last well on - mine stays on all day over a mineral powder foundation, with or without a finishing powder - I have also used it alone with great results. It's a 3.4g pot which isn't enormous but will last a long time as you only need a tiny bit.
They now cost £5 each (I got mine back when it was £3.50 - that was over 2 years ago! I checked my email records just) which for a high quality mineral blush comes it quite cheap, this works better than the samples of non mineral blush I've tried from premium brands. Obviously with daily use it won't last as long but I'd say there's several months usage in a pot.
This really is great stuff - there's a range of colours to suit your skintone, they're very cheap for a good amount of product that will last ages - oh and there's lots of other great goodies on the website too! I really cannot see a way this could be better.
