A great alternative to compressed powder

Another of my recent e.l.f. purchases was a tub of mineral booster powder. Now as someone who doesn't like to wear too much makeup on a day to day basis I find powder incredibly useful as a light cover on my skin which I put over the top of some carefully placed dabs of concealer. Normally I opt for a compact case of powder, however spotting this product when I was doing a big shop on the e.l.f. website I popped a tub into my shopping basket.

Once delivered I was quite pleased with the look of this product which reminded me in many ways to a tub of bare minerals foundation which I have used in the past. The tub is quite small in size with a diameter of roughly 48mm and the tub contains 4.8g of powder. The tub itself is transparent and plastic in construction and features a black screw top lid with the text e.l.f. booster imprinted in the centre. The lid screws open to reveal that the tub is divided into two sections with the base of the tub storing the powder and a small circle of plastic with holes punched in allowing the powder to pass through into the top section of the tub for application, however the holes are protected with a plastic sticker when new. As this is loose powder as oppose to compacted I was keen to see how it would feel on my skin. The powder is very light and very fine in consistency, which I personally like as it means that it can be applied easily onto my face and doesn't sink into the pores or blemishes. Another reason I like the powder fine is that it doesn't look caked onto the skin as other powders might but rather sits on top looking quite natural in finish.

Looking on the e.l.f. website this powder comes in a variety of colour ways including sheer, shimmer, tinted and corrective yellow and in both a regular and large sized tub . As it can be quite difficult to accurately assess the tone of your skin with an online retailer without actually being able to apply a tester, I opted for the sheer colour way. This looks in the tub to be a light ivory colour and upon application I like the way it blends into the natural colour of my skin allowing the true colour of my skin to shine through and not leaving any tide marks as a darker colour might.

Applying this powder is rather simple if a little messy as it is loose. The first thing that I did upon receiving my powder was to remove and bin the plastic sticker which prevented the powder falling through the holes within the tub when new. Leaving the lid of the tub firmly screwed on, I tend to use the Bare Minerals method of applying, meaning that I like to shake the tub gently to allow particles of powder to fall through the holes and into the lid of the tub. I then simply remove the lid, swirl my complexion brush into the lid of the tub and apply it in a swirl action onto my face. I find that with this product a little goes a long way, and although the powder is not very visible when being applied as it is so true to my skin tone it takes the shine out of my face allowing me to see the areas that have got powder and those that haven't. Generally I find that repeating the lid screwed on and tap motion only twice is sufficient to cover my entire face.

As someone who walks a mile to work and back everyday, I have really tested this powder in all weathers. I find that the powder gives a finished look to my skin which when topped off with a brushing of blusher really completes a more polished look. The powder is odourless and light and it therefore sits on my skins without causing irritation, plus it leaves my skin feeling really soft to the touch. The colour of this powder is perfect for my skin tone and I like the way that it seems to blend in with the colour of my skin without looking unnatural. Another great feature of this powder in my opinion is the way that it provides an entire day of coverage without allowing the shine around the oily areas of my face to come through although it doesn't seem too drying either.

This product can be bought from the e.l.f. website and a 4.8g tub is currently priced at £5 with the larger tub being £7 which I consider to be quite reasonable.

All in all, this is an excellent purchase which I have been very happy with. The reasonable price and great results mean that I will definitely be buying this powder again and can thoroughly recommend it. Consequently this product scores an excellent five stars.

I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
