Essie Sugar Daddy
Advantages: Smooth, shiny, shimmery, chip-resistant, quick drying
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
I had been wanting to try an Essie nail polish to see how they compare to OPI and Nails Inc which are great brands. I bought mine off eBay but they're available on lots of different websites. At the moment a few shades of essie nail polishes are only £1.99 on Fragrance Direct so there are great deals out there. I am not sure which shops they're available in as I've only seen them online. I think they're sold in larger boots stores but I've never seen them. They usually retail for between £8 and £12, it's pricey but I've heard good things about essie so I took the plunge and bought one.
I chose this colour because even though I have loads of pinks, I don't have a muted, pale one like this and I liked the look of it. The packaging is a square glass bottle with a white plastic lid and the word 'essie' imprinted on the front of the glass. The bottles are 15ml.
The first thing I noticed when I applied this was that it glides on very easily and smoothly which gives a nice, shiny and even look. The colour is very light and sheer, it would be good for a French manicure or a very understated look. I usually go for more vibrant colours but this makes a nice change. It's definitely a pretty shade, it has some light shimmer. This is sheer so the white of your nail shows through. It isn't actually very noticeable but it does add a nice sheen and a bit of pink colour to the nails. This nail polish does build up well though, so the more coats you apply the stronger the colour. After a few coats, I got a more solid and opaque shade.
The consistency of this is light and not as thick as my other nail polishes. I think this could be more to do with this being a translucent nail polish and not to do with the brand as a whole. The texture is very smooth which makes it easy to glide on an even layer.
It dries very quickly which is great, even though it doesn't market itself as being a fast-drying nail varnish so this was a nice surprise. It's especially useful when applying more coats so you don't have to wait around. Because it's so shiny, I wasn't sure it had actually dried, it has an almost wet-look.
I would definitely describe this as chip-resistant. In fact, it's quite hard for me to bite off which is my bad habit! I find it easy enough to remove with nail varnish remover, about the same as most other nail varnishes.
I would definitely recommend this, it's chip-resistant, quick drying and a lovely shiny and smooth nail polish. I'd recommend the colour to anyone looking for a natural or low-key look, it's very pretty and pale. I look forward to trying more colours from Essie in the future.
