“ Brand: Estee Lauder / Type: Concealer „
***Why I want the product?***
There are so many different concealers on the market right now it is hard to say which ones are best and which ones should be kicked to the side. I am more of a high street brand with one or two concealers in my stash that I would call high end brands. Yes my stash, I am a concealer junkie and love them all, well almost all. I have dark circles, which if I choose a low end brand concealer the consistency can be that light my dark circles shine through like a beacon, so I end up applying so much more that it looks cakey, concealer sinks into fine lines, it ends up looking dry and a mess. Also the problem with most low budget to high street brands, especially for my pale skin concealers can look orange on me if I am not careful.
I had seen many YouTube videos where they had used Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer and the matching foundation, everyone loved the formula, how long it wears on the skin and how well it covers dark circles, acne as well as blemish marks and redness. It does not rub off and how well it lasts all day.
I was luckily enough to receive this concealer in a makeup swap in shade Light 01.
***About the brand/product***
To me Estee Lauder is a makeup brand that is for the older lady, more mature ladies, but this is what I thought when I was younger as my Mum owned a few Estee Lauder products and this was what I associated the brand to. However, since I have got older, wiser to cosmetics, I have come to realise although Estee Lauder is a brand I still associate for the older lady it is also a brand of quality, sophistication and a renowned beauty brand that has stood the test of time.
***What does Estee Lauder say about this concealer?***
Well first of all Cosmopolitan awarded this concealer in the Beauty and Fragrance Awards in 2012 as Best Blemish Concealer.
This concealer will look flawless for up to 15 hours, feels comfortable on the skin and never dry. Stay In Place Double Wear Concealer stays seamless throughout the day without ceasing. With our lightweight texture, infused with minerals and emollients to help condition the skin you can create the perfect look of flawless skin all day long.
It is transfer resistant; colour true concealer helps to provide medium coverage that can be built up for your desire.
Oil free, water, SPF 10, perspiration and humidity-resistant. It is also dermatologist tested, ophthalmologist tested and fragrance free.
***What are the ingredients in this product?***
This is the problem I am having as I had real trouble trying to find any ingredients for this concealer on the official Estee Lauder website, there is also nothing to tell me which 'minerals' are infused inside and as for 'ophthalmologist' tested? Nothing.
After a lengthily research on the Internet for the ingredients I eventually found them, but I could not see any minerals at all. In fact the concealer literally consists of emollients, solvents, pigments, emulsifiers, moisturisers and preservatives. Something I am feeling very cheated of and not impressed.
***What is Ophthalmologist tested mean then?***
In a nutshell it means the product was tested by eye Doctors to see if the product is safe to use under the eye area without irritation. It is also safe for contact lens wears.
When some products have oils in them or infused with mineral oils. Because the skin around the eye is the thinnest part of the body, oil can seep through the skin and when this happens the oil travels to the back of the eye. Our body is unable to get rid of oil and it can cause serious eye infections.
I believe the concealer I have is an older formula as the packaging to mine looks slightly different to the new one out now. I will compare among the two.
Older version sees a long rectangle shape plastic see-through container with Estee Lauder logo and Double Wear Stay In Place Concealer SPF 10 written in gold along the side. The back sees the product contains 7ml of product and has an expiry of 24 months. The shiny gold screw off lid is also plastic but is a little smaller than the container.
The newer version sees the logo in gold and the writing in back. The gold screw off lid sits flush with the see-through container.
***What is it like on the skin?***
Unscrewing the lip and swatching the colour to the back of my hand with the concealer wand, I am surprised to see at how light and runny it actually is so say it is meant to be a medium coverage concealer that can be built to full. Normally concealers like this are thicker. The high pigment is apparent to me straight away, which you do not get with cheaper liquid concealers.
Tapping a tiny amount on my hand which spreads the concealer around quickly, easy and gently. I am also surprised to see how a tiny amount can cover such a vast area. The soft brush applicator is soft but unhygienic due to the wand touching your skin and you are placing it back into the container.
I normally have trouble with concealers under my eyes as it dries my under eye area making the concealer look cakey, cracked, blotchy and sometimes, sore. Usually I have to mix concealers in with a little eye cream for this to stop happening.
Taking a small amount of product onto a concealer brush, gently brushing it over my dark circles I am glad to see my dark circles covered but not as well as I expected. All ready due to its creamy formula the concealer is creeping into the fine lines around my eye area. I apply another light layer and my dark circles are covered but still looking natural, not at all orange, although it is back into the little lines again.
I have also tried using this concealer to cover broken capillaries around my nose and blemishes, which works a treat to cover redness and concealing blemishes as it dries matte, but you have to make sure no dry skin is in sight as Double Wear concealer clings onto every dry skin and accentuates it to the max. This also goes if your under eye area is dry.
It is a fantastic product with regards to its staying power, it really does stay on. When I applied it to the back of my hand I forgot about it. Although I had washed my hands many times that day the concealer was still there, not all intact I might add but still there.
As with regards to the product on my face and staying power, without setting the concealer under my eyes with translucent powder the concealer lasts a good five hours if not longer, but there was some creasing and more product seeped into the tiny lines. But when I applied powder ontop to set it, the concealer stayed in place from morning until I came to take it off and this applies to the rest of my face as well. Considering this the concealer did not hold up if my face got a little dryer through the day, again it accentuated this fact.
Under the eye area I would say it is transfer resistant when powder is applied over the top but on the face I would not say this to be true.
***Price and availability***
I am defiantly on the fence with this one as Double Wear Stay In Place concealer from Estee Lauder esteelauder.co.uk will set you back £20.00. The cheapest I have found for this product is eBay (prices vary) and uk.strawberrynet.com for £21.00 with free postage and packaging.
There is a good range of shades with this product, eight in total. You will find something for pale skins like me all the way to extra deep and those skin shades in between.
***What I think about it/do I like it?***
It is a lovely concealer for a high end brand but personally I do not think it does what it says on the tin. My biggest problem is the ingredient list and the added minerals, which I could not find. But the fact it is ophthalmologist impressed me as this is the first time I have come across this.
It did perform well through wear, the 7ml tube will last you a very long time due to the very small amount needed to cover your flaws it is just to creamy for my liking and with my dreaded dry under eye area it is not a concealer for me.
Due to use of the concealer the attached brush applicator broke off, luckily not inside the tube. Not good for something that is expensive, you expect something a little better built quality.
Unfortunately because of this I cannot see me re-purchasing it.
Price and Availability
I bought this to go with my Estee Lauder double wear foundation due to my regular cheaper concealers not working well with this foundation. This cost me £19.99 which I wasn't too pleased about. I got my first concealer completely free when I bought the foundation and because it works well I thought that I better buy another one. But £19.99 for a concealer that I desperately need was too much but I had no choice.
The woman who served me asked what shade of the double wear foundation I was using and matched it up that way, this is so the concealer isn't visible but still does it's job under my foundation. My concealer is the lightest shade out of them, and it's just labelled light.
It seems pretty obvious how to apply this, you just dab the brush onto the affected area you want to cover up such as redness, spots, dark circles. The application brush it attached to the lid and it's a little soft spongey brush, this is quite generous in size so you can get quite a lot on at once.
The difference it makes
With this on my acne skin, it doesn't make the bumps disappear but it does make the harsh redness disappear which makes me feel a lot more confident in myself. I put this both under and over my foundation due to my skin being that bad and this well enough for me. This will last as long as the foundation does which is 8hours plus.
Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation is one of my favourite makeup items because it gives good coverage but looks natural as they have a perfect colour match for me and it lasts all day, so when I received a free travel sized tube of Double Wear concealer as a gift with purchase of my foundation a few weeks ago at House of Fraser, I was very keen to try it. I had actually considered buying it a few times in the past but ended up sticking with what I knew instead. I do have some dark circles under my eyes and for that reason I find a good concealer very important. I don't really get many blemishes, so this review focuses on the use on the undereye area.
The full sized tube of this product costs £19.00 for 7ml and is availale in 8 shades. Mine is 4.7 ml and came packaged in the same format as the full sized item. I have the shade "light medium" (I didn't get a choice) but it is a good match for my pale skin.
=== Application ===
I use this concealer over the top over my Double Wear foundation. The Double Wear concealer comes in a tube with a wand for application. I pat a small amount of it under my eyes with the wand, but you can't really blend it in with the wand. It is just designed to dab the product onto the area. You should blend by lightly patting with your ring finger or using a small brush. I prefer to use an "airbrush" concealer brush which is like a tiny stippling brush to give a flawless finish. When I use this it blends seamlessly with my foundation, giving a natural finish which I am pleased with. The concealer is quite highly pigmented and provides excellent coverage from just a small amount of product.
=== Wear Throughout The Day ===
Estee Lauder claim it is transfer resistant (meaning it won't rub off), lasts 15 hours, won't melt or slip away and never gets dry. This sounded great to me, as I don't want to have to constantly check my makeup to make sure my concealer is still in place. In the past I have tried a few concealers which settle in fine lines and some creamier ones have melted (Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer melted pretty much as soon as I went outside when I used it in the Bahamas!) The Double Wear foundation lasts amazingly and I was pleased to discover the concealer has similar staying power. It is oil-free, which helps it to stay. I do think the claim of 15 hours is reasonable. It certainly lasts a good 12 hours with no touch ups needed. If I was going out for the evening I might retouch it before hand but on a normal day, after you put it on in the morning that's the job done! It has not settled in lines at all or become flaky or dry. I am very impressed with how it wears through the day.
=== Over all ===
Despite the fact I normally prefer creamier concealers, I actually love this product. It covers effectively, can be blended easily and lasts all day. The tube with wand format is handy as if you needed to travel light or take it in your handbag it is only about the size of a lipgloss and you don't strictly need to take a brush, as you can blend it with your finger. I use two different brushes with my other favourite concealers, so the Double Wear concealer is easier when out and about (although you don't need to retouch it during the day anyway!) I'm impressed with it and I would recommend it. The price is not bad considering you get a fairly generous amount of product which will last ages especially since you don't need to use much or retouch it during the day.
Appearance and Aim
The double wear concealer by Estee Lauder is pretty average when it comes to design, it looks the same as any other concealer in tube form, the tube itself is only roughly around 4 inches high and the handle just under 2 inches this gives you enough room to hold this without dropping it, there is a small brush on the end with a flat end and this is how you apply your concealer. The concealer is a little better in design than others because it comes in the double wear style box which is blue and gold, this does make it look a bit more luxurious. The aim of this concealer is to work with your double wear foundation to cover up any pesky problems and flaws on your face.
Application of the concealer
You applying this under your foundation on your flawed areas to neurtalise the colour so it's the same colour as your foundation you do this by placing the flat end of the brush on your face and moving it around. However doing this smudges it around your face and then smudges it again once your foundation is over it so it isn't in it's rightful place making you still look flawed. So for best results do as following.
Apply your double wear foundation, just one thin layer will do fine, once your happy with that take your concealer and instead of using that brush take your foundation brush and lightly dab it on the brush of the concealer, then dab this on your much needed areas, if you put a bit of pressure into this is will go on better, you will then notice your cheeks, eyes and anywhere you apply are orangy, leave this to dry for a minute as it dried very quickly, then put a proper layer of foundation on top and proceed to putting your powder and other make up on.
normally when you rub the concealer on your face it just smudges around, by putting a layer of foundation on first and dabbing the concealer, the product has the base layer to cling to so it will stay in place and the dabbing means you can cover it properly with out over using it.
Wearing the concealer
Once you've completed your full face make up, or even just your foundation then you'll notice how freshed faced you look, even if you looked tired and rough before, personally I have dark circles and red bumps on my cheek and my chin, but not so much anymore, but they're still there and I do find it hard to cover up even with this concealer, you can clearly see I'm covering up red marks, but on a good day when my face isn't so bad this covers up really well especially on a night out when I put a few more layers on on pictures My skin looks flawless which is great.
Removing this can be tough depending on your wipes and the amount of make up you actually have on but washing your face with easily remove anything left behind by a wipe. This is guaranteed to last 15 hours minimum and this does just that, after a night out, so getting ready at 7pm and not waking up until around 11am that's 16 hours and I'll wake up with my make up perfect except the side I slept on.
Conclusion, Price and Availability
Overall I won't ever use another conceal whilst using the double wear foundation as they work great together where as cheaper concealers are rubbish with this, it stays on your face like it should and gives you a flawless even look. This as well as the foundation has built in spf-15 which is brilliant. I wear the lightest colour of both the concealer and foundation which means I have to sun block my full body in summer so I don't tan otherwise my face will still be white because this foundation and concealer protects you that well, I had this problem last year and I had to change my shade, so now I jut wear sunblock I prefer being white to tanned or orange like more girls these days. The price is £19 and you can buy this from anyone who stocks estee lauder products such as boots, house of fraser and online shops or friend their own website.
I found a little bottle of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer SP in the discount area of my local chemist where it was marked as reduced from £18.00 to just £7.00 - and so, yes, I felt like I had to buy it. I don't know why it was reduced, but with a £11.00 reduction I just felt it was a bargain that I simply couldn't resist. I have used Estee Lauder products in the past and while they are not my favourite products I find they are basically good cosmetics that are suited mostly for general everyday use.
This is a concealer, but I mostly use to lighten under my eyes and to cover the small chicken pox scar that I have on my forehead. I luckily don't get many spots but obviously on the odd occasion I do then I will use the concealer for this purpose also. This concealer comes in a small bottle with a screw top where the concealers applicator is attached to the underside of the lid. The applicator is in the style of the type you often get with lip gloss where there is a stick and then a small foam section at the end of the stick which is the bit that you use to apply it. The applicator is pretty decent and allows subtle coverage of any blemishes or areas. I like the fact that the concealer is fairly light and not gloopy at all and so it's not obvious that I'm wearing concealer (I hate seeing people wear concealer when it's gone all dry and cracked because it's just too gloopy when it's applied). It blends in well with my foundation and it takes the colour out of any blemishes and also lightens my skin in those key areas. I was pleasantly surprised at what good quality it actually was. The concealer does have good stay-ability and it stays in place really for about 12 hours and so will last a whole working day or night out without having to be re-applied. I also find that it doesn't get accidentally removed when I touch my face with my fingers and is only easily removed with make-up remover wipes - although soap and water will work.
Overall, I am pleasantly surprised at just how good this concealer is. I was expecting it to be okay, but I have actually found that it's one of the best concealers I have ever used. The bad news is that I don't seem to be able to find another bottle to buy anywhere!
I have brought Estee Lauder products for a few years now, although rarely recently as they are rather expensive! Having worked in a department store myself I was able to test out a few products, and occasionally have them for special discounted prices - even better!
Once I started to use more luxurious products like Estee Lauder and Clinique, it really makes you want to stick to 'high end' product than go back to using regular more affordable products. This is primarily because of the care to the customer they want to offer, plus the dedication of making there brand seem quality, and feel expensive on the skin. This is certainly something they achieve with their products, and I would totally recommend the more expensive brands if what you are looking for is a solid, fantastic product to suit your skin needs.
The double wear stay in place concealer was recommended to me buy a friend, as she knew I had experimented with cosmetics like this in the past. This however, was in a league of it own. The gold top, gorgeous sleek feel of the bottle and the feel of the brush were things I noticed straight away - what cost me around £18 was completely worth it!
I use this for under my eyes, when occasionally I look a bit tired and want to add some light under my eyes. I also use when I want an extra concealer for spots, because it looks fantastic! It lasts for about 6 hours, on top of my make up, but then I find myself touchig my face and so wiping it off a lot! This is just a habit of mine though, so Im sure it would last longer if you did not do this. This comes in a lot of different shades so experiment and get the right one for you (especially at £18.50 a bottle). There is a SPF of 10 in, which is great and makes in handy to take away on holiday!
Being of high quality, you can also expect it to be fragrance free, Dermatologist-tested and Ophthalmologist-tested which is something great to know - especially for people who worry about what goes on your skin and whether it is safe or not.
It slides lovely on the skin, I put on after my foundation, and provides full coverage that feels lightweight - so a fantastic purchase, that you won't regret.
I have been using this as an undereye concealer for quite some time. I am 42 and I have been using this since I was 39 the packaging has changed over the years but the product as stayed the same.
I use the shade light and before the colours changed I used the colour pebble.
I know that there is a matching foundation to this product which I found a little to heavy so I use this with a different foundation and it still blends really well.
The Product Claims:
For a flawless look with 15-hour staying power.
Conceals flaws and corrects the look of undereye circles, dark spots and discolourations.
Transfer-resistant, colour-true formula provides medium to full coverage that won't slip, slide or melt away. Feels lightweight, comfortable.
Estee Lauder claims that this concealer lasts for 15 hours and it does.
The dark circles are less noticeable and I feel more confident when I wear it.
The coverage of this concealer is excellent you only need a small amount.
The only thing I would change about this product is wand applicator I dont feel that the wand blends very well, you still need to use a small brush or fingertips to blend in. This is of course a personal preference and I would still not class this as a disadvantage. The results more than make up for this.
Review for Estee Lauder double wear stay in place concealer-
Luckily i was bought this concealeras a gift set from a friend as a birthday present, as i would of been a little disapointed due to the high price tag!! I use estee lauders double wear foundation which i find fantastic and has excellent coverage, but the concealer 'BEING CONCEALER' Is meant to give your excellent coverage against dark circles, blemishes etc but it fails to cover my dark circles.
I have used better concealers alot cheaper than this, this particular concealer costing £18.00.
The wand that comes with the product is pretty pointless as you can not blend the concealer as too much comes out with the wand.
Its meant to have 15 hours protection but thats def untrue i looked like a pander after 3 hours!! It also has to be blended very quickly otherwise it dries and leaves marks on your face all day that you can nto get rid of without removing all your makeup!
Overall not good value, i would rate this 4.5/10!
This is a wonderful product that i am completely addicted to! It blends perfectly with the double wear foundation or can be used on its own. I have also found that it mixes easily with other brands of foundation and can be used either before the foundation or afterwards as a quick and easy patch up. I have been using this product for two years now and cant find anything to even compare to it. Its not greasy or sticky, yet covers dark circles or imperfections seamlessly. I have also found that the double wear concealerstays true to form even over time - and i often but it in bulk when a good price comes up. I would honestly wholeheartedly reccommend this product to all of my friends (especially as they always seem to borrow mine) as i truly believe its unbeatable value for money and a wonderful part of my daily routine.
***What is it?***
Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer is the perfect accompaniment to Estee Lauder's Double Wear Foundation. This is light reflecting and can be used as an under eye concealer or to cover scars, blemishes or age spots. It is in a wand applicator so is very easy to use and it goes along way. It contains SPF 10 and comes in 5 shades from light to dark. However there are some disadvantages to this concealer. First of all the packaging and advertisement claims that this concealer lasts for 15 hours, however, I am lucky if it lasts for 5 hours.
It retails at £17.50 which is expensive for a concealer I have to admit but it always seems to the concealer I want to go back to after trying others out there.
My disappointment with this concealer is when wearing it on a foundation which is not light reflective it shows up at night over another foundation I am wearing, especially in photos, which does not look very good.
However on a more positive note Estee Lauder products are great for people with sensitive skin because they are fragrance free and dermatologist tested. As a bonus this concealer has been ophthamologist tested which means it is safe to use around the eye area.
If you already use the Double Wear foundation from Estee Lauder it is must, they compliment each other so well. Similarly if you wear a light reflective foundation try it out too! Or if you are looking for a great under eye concealer which is brighter then the rest of your face to draw attention away from dark circles it is great for that!
I'd never used Estee Lauder products before but when I went for a makeover there it cost me £15 and you could redeem it on Estee Lauder products and as my usual concealer product was running out I decided to give it a try.
Estee Lauder Boasts that it lasts around 15 hours so perfect if you can't be bothered with reapplying your make up throughout the day. The conealer is made easier to apply by a lip gloss type applicator which is great because you don't have to spend the money buying a brush.
It costs £17 and to be honest I think it is quite expensive and I probably wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't of got the £15 off.
I used the light concealer and although I do not have extremely light skin this colour fits better with my skin tone. It comes in five different colour ranges and they do fit for any skin type.
I found I got a better effect from the concealer when I applied it after my foundation (as I do with most), but I do find that some concealers work best as a base.
The concealer is Dermatologist-tested, Ophthalmologist-tested and fragrance-free which is an added bonus to me.
I did find that it stayed on all day however, I don't think its worth what you pay for it. I have found concealers which work just as good for a lot less.
Overall, great product but I would not buy it again, as there are things I can buy for the same price which work a lot better.
My mums a big fan of Estee Lauder so whenever she buys a new product I'm always eager to give it ago. I really liked their foundation which seemed to last pretty long and their mascara really gave my eyelashes length and as soon as i tried the concealer i was very disappointed.
It isn't great and looks quite thick and obvious. It goes a bit orange aswell after a while which really disapointed me; the last thing i wanted was to look like a wotsit.
So i asked mum to come in and try it too and as i expected it was the same for her too. I would have rather not had it on especially if i was wearing no foundation. It seems to look quite thick and instead of hiding the blemish or spot just made it obvious that it was there and i was trying to cover it up; not its best product yet i would say.
As a big fan of Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation I was excited to try the concealer to match, I had a lot of hyper-pigmentation which took some covering, even the double wear foundation didn't mask it completely, so I needed a good concealer. As I'm quite pale I purchased the it in the lightest shade, which is 'light' (there are 5 shades to choose from) this is also the shade recommended for my foundation colour, which is Ecru.
The concealer comes in a cylindrical shaped package with a wand applicator, I'm not a fan of these myself as they seem quite unhygienic. Instead, I chose to apply it by dabbing a little on a clean finger, and then dabbing it onto the area which needed concealing.
Overall I wasn't impressed, I found that I had to put the concealer on before my foundation, if I applied it over the top as recommended it dried a completely different colour (peachy) and looked patchy, it also made the texture of the foundation change. It didn't really do a great deal to cover my blemishes either, as I think when I put the foundation on over the top I may have spread it around a little, which really defeated the point!
I'm disappointed that I can't recommend this concealer, as I am a huge fan of Estee Lauder products in general. Perhaps I wasn't using it correctly but then, you shouldn't need a lesson in how to apply it. At £17 it is a little steep in price too, although I will say it lasts for ages.
This concealer matches a range of EL foundations so the colour and texture of the concealer will blend in well if that is what you use as a base.
The concealer comes in a thin tube around the size of a standard lipgloss and comes with a lid applicator sponge, again much the same as with a lipgloss. The product is easily trasferred from the sponge applicator to your skin, and you can blend it into the skin with either another concealer brush or a clean fingertip.
The texture of the concealer is like double cream, thick enough to stay put but thin enough to blend and build up if required. I do not think that even with daily use this concealer will be fully used before you should replace it. The coverage is good but sometimes the product needs applying twice - i find two very thin layers are better than one medium application. The finish is slightly iridescent which is good as it perks up skin rather than making it look like you have tried to cover something up. Also, it's dewy finish means it can be used as a dark circle concealer without looking cakey, although i would recommend using only a little in the inner corners of the eye. Less is certainly more with this product.
The disadvantages are that the sponge applicator tends to bring too much product out of the tube which you will not use. inevitably this then gets shoved back into the tube which is not good if trying to avoid bacteria contamination. The product needs to be applied/blended onto the skin with something other than the applicator sponge - a brush or fingertip will be needed to get a good effect.
It's a decent concealer from EL, but I don't think it is anything particularly special.
****Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer SP ****
When buying foundation i usually but the concealer to go with it. How else am i supposed to cover up my baggy eyes?
Estee Lauder makes high quality make up products and in fact also own other high end brands such as Mac and Clinque. The brand is very distinctive as it comes in a royal blue box and gold lettering which gives it a very expensive high quality look to it. In general i love this brand and am yet to experience a bad product from them.
This comes in a long thin tube with a gold handle like a lip gloss tube including the applicator which is spongy and has a angled tip.
**What i thought**
This product is one of the best concealers i have ever used. It goes on really smooth and is long lasting. It feels really light and it makes my dark circles disappear!!As an added incentive it has sun protection factor 10 which i think is good for summer months.I love this!!! I also found it applied really easily.
Overall i would recommend this product because it gives great coverage and more importantly it does not break me out at all(i have sensitive skin)SAy goodbye to your bags...i did to mine!!!
Lightweight concealer with wand applicator /
