This product is made by "Estee Lauder", they have been around for a long time and stereotypically the brand is popular with elderly ladies. As a lady in my early 20's, I was first introduced to this brand through their Double Wear Foundation and have tried a couple of mascara's since, because at the end of day the target audience of elderly ladies don't get to 70+ without trying a fair few mascara's in their time.
The packaging is suited to the stereotype of the product that it is aimed elderly ladies. The box is royal blue with gold writing, the same as the mascara tube itself, which is very regal and "proper" rather than being fun and flirty, but this does give it a certain level of sophistication. However, I do find the bevelled lid to be quite dating and old-fashioned for a cutting edge product that claims to be smudge proof.
This is the second mascara from Estee Lauder that I have used, so I bought the product expecting it to be equally as good ...
... The smell was alright, I do not notice a particular odour when applying mascara. This may seem like a bizarre thing to comment on to many but after borrowing my sister's mascara (Maybelline) and finding that they have strong unpleasant odours I feel it is worth noting.
... Application was simple, the brush is plain and simple. You take the brush out of the tube and brush it onto your lashes. Personally, I find nothing wrong with a good old fashion brush and cannot get to grips with these weird rubber "S" shaped brushes that look like they were based on state of the art toilet brushes.
... It did lengthen my eyelashes. I have naturally long eyelashes, but they are unfortunately quite light on the tips so mascara is a must to make the most of them.
... The product did not thicken my lashes, but it did not claim to either so I am happy with this and it gives a natural everyday look. Personally I find mascara that thicken lashes are often more for a nighttime look.
... Smudgeproof? I am not one for rubbing my eyes as I got out of that habit quite early in my make-up wearing years. Over past week, I have suffered from a cold and the mascara has stood up to me constantly dapping around eyes, although it did flake off a little bit. I have also found that I do not get panda eyes if I go in the shower with this mascara on either, and often I find that even without rubbing my eyes the shower causes panda eyes.
... The texture of the product is the one thing that I dislike, it is very dry and does not make my eyelashes feel soft and moisturised in the slightest. They actually feel rather brittle when the mascara is on and as I mentioned in the previous paragraph, the product does sometimes flake off.
This product retails at £20 in Boots at the moment, which I think is a little pricey as I tend to pay between £10 and £15 for a mascara.
The mascara was bought as a gift, and I am unlikely to buy it myself. This is mainly because the selling point of the mascara is it being "smudge proof" and I have little need for a smudge proof mascara as I am not prone to rubbing my eyes. Also I am put off by the brittle feeling of my lashes when the product is on in case it ruins the condition of the lashes.
I am a huge fan of Estee Lauder skincare and make up, so when I was looking for a suitable mascara for my wedding I went to their counter first. I explained what it was for and that it would most probably need to be waterproof! However, the lady at the counter explained that this was a new type of mascara, not waterproof, but sweatproof, tearproof and smudgeproof. Apparently this formula could only be 'unlocked' with warm water and this was the only way to remove it. Having purchased EL products before which I always found to be great quality, and trusting the lady at the counter, I bought this mascara.
Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. The packaging compared to other EL products is average, and although the blue tube with gold writing is quite nice, the gold lid with indented lines in it seems a bit old fashioned. As with most mascaras, the lid twists off to reveal a long applicator with brush. The brush is quite thin, and didn't look to be of the best quality. However, the mascara was easy to apply and I seemed to manage to coat all of my eyelashes with the mascara quite effectively.
I only applied one coat of mascara (I never apply more than one as I have quite long dark eyelashes anyway and more than one coat seems to always result in smudging or flaking). The effect was quite nice - although I wouldn't say it was particularly lengthening, it added a nice colour and did enhance my eyes. However, this effect did not last long. Within a couple of hours, I noticed small black flakes underneath my eyelashes. I thought this may just be an initial bit of excess mascara from application but each time I tidied up my eye area and removed the black flakes, they would return an hour or so later. Admittedly, the mascara did not smudge as promised, but if the price to pay for that is black flakes, I'm not interested.
When it came to removing the mascara, the warm water did 'unlock' the mascara and remove it easily without the need for eye make up remover. I didn't test the sweatproof or tearproof element of the mascara but cold water didn't seem to budge it, so I presume it would hold out against tears and sweat. I did attempt to use this mascara a few more times, but each time the black flakes appeared, even when I first prepared my eyelashes with an Estee Lauder eyelash primer (I tried once applying the primer then immediately applied the mascara, and another time applied the primer, allowed it to dry and then applied the mascara but neither approach seemed to help).
It was at this point that I gave up and turned to other brands (clinique do a great 'power lash' mascara which I found to be much more resilient). This isn't a product i would buy again and I think I would even need some convincing to use a free sample of it.
I was first introduced to Estee Lauder products by a friend who wore some of their skin care range. I have used a range of there products and now really enjoy buying and wearing their products.
I was brought the Estee Lauder Double Wear mascara as a gift to get one of their gift sets. The mascara on it's own you will expect to pay between £17.99 - £22.99 but it is always good if you can buy as part of a gift set.
This mascara does what it says on the tin, its double wear which means they lengthen and volumise your lashes with a matter of strokes.
However it doesn't come without it's downfalls, it can clump so maybe helpful to have a lash comb or a pin to seperate the lashes as required. I have also noticed that the mascara flakes towards the end of the day as it dries extremely stiff which can occasionally cause your lashes to snap.
I am making the mascara sound dreadful but the faults seem to happen towards the end of the mascaras life which i find is around 6-8 weeks.
It has many great features, it does lengthen and volumise, it also lasts in water and is easy to remove, i have used this over and over again so would recommend this product to a friend.
This is a lash saver for those of us who usually have to use waterproof mascara due to chronically teary eyes, or those of us who forget theyre wearing make up all togethr and go in for a good old eye rub! Estee Lauder claim this will last you a massive 15 hours, now I can confirm it looks great after a 13 hour shift at work so thats pretty close!
It thickens and lengthens nicely and has a nice brush that easily fixes any clumping that the mascara may do. Estee Lauder call this their Lash-XtenderTM Brush. The only thing I have noticed is that sometimes it can flake off throughout the day, however I do put alot on so this is probably why!
Best of all, it is great for sensitive eyes and it will remove very easily with warm water so it is easy on the eyes, unlike other mascaras which take a great deal of rubbing with an expensive eye make up remover to come off.
It is available in black and brown shades, the black shade which I have is VERY black which is great for stand out lashes.
It is a bit pricey, at £17.50 ish (I buy mine from Debenhams) but the results are outstanding if you are looking for smudge/tear-proof mascara that will stay on whatever yopur doing!
My eyelashes are not my best feature. They're short and thin, and none of the previous mascaras I had used gave the effect I wanted. So I had pretty much given up with mascara, and I became more of an eyeliner girl.
But one day I was shopping at the John Lewis beauty section looking for a new foundation. I opted for Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation (the Double Wear display was very nice!) and was handed a 2.4ml sample of this Double Wear Mascara. I put it into my bag and pretty much forgot about it until a few days later when I found it at the bottom of my bag.
Curious, I inspected the short tube. I unscrewed the top and found quite a thin but very long brush, ensuring you covered every lash. I applied it carefully to my top lashes. I looked at the results and I had the best eyelashes I had ever had with any other mascara. It had done what it had claimed on the tube, it had lengthened and thickened (but in a natural way). I applied another coat but it clumped a little. Experimenting, I applied another and then another! It clumped a little more, and gave an almost false lash, as it thickened my eyelashes quite a lot.
So I carried on with the day, and few hours later went to check my eyes. I was surprised to see that the Zero-Smudge claim was true, despite the amount I had put on. Overall I was quite pleased.
I started to use this mascara quite a lot, using one or two coats for a natural but lengthened awake look, and several coats when going out for that false lash effect. It didn't last long as it was only a sample, but I did notice that it dried up very quickly, making the mascara very thick, and this is when the clumping started. However, after cleaning the mascara wand, the quality became better.
When it was time to remove my make-up, I was surprised to find how easy it was to remove the mascara. I used Clinique's eye make-up remover, but later found that warm water does just as well. When removing the mascara, I didn't get the uncomfortable feeling and it didn't smudge all over my eyes, it was very easily taken off almost like it was soaked up. Even if you applied about ten coats, it wasn't uncomfortable and didn't flake off like previous mascaras I had used.
To me, the most outstanding quality of this mascara is the Zero-Smudge, which is very useful to me, I tend to rub my eyes a lot, and turn into a racoon, but this stuff doesn't leave your lashes! Another thing I love about this is the fact it is like a 2 in 1, as it can give you a natural awake look as well as the false lash effect it can give which is ideal for going out.
After the sample had run out in about two weeks, I had to go out and buy it! At a hefty price at almost £20, I wasn't sure about whether to buy it. It was decided when I got a gift voucher for Debenhams, and I bought it for about £8.
I was very pleased when I bought it, and it turned out to be a great buy, and it would have been even if I didn't have the discount.
The tube was very much like the free sample but longer, a royal blue colour with a gold screw on lid, a gold band just underneath it. The words on the tube are printed in gold, Double Wear being the biggest and boldest. Underneath that reads "Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara".
After using this for a few months now, I can safely say that this is the best mascara I have used, and I am no longer more of an eyeliner girl! Personally, I think the whole of the Double Wear range is fantastic, especially the mascara.
Yes the price is high, but if you are looking for a great quality mascara, I highly recommend this!
p.s forgive me for the awful title!
It really is zero smudge! I really take pleasure in using Estee Lauder mascaras. Why? Because they actually work and make my lashes look lovely. Right, so the basics of this mascara:

As one would expect from Estee Lauder, this mascara comes in an elegant dark blue tube, with a gold lid - how's that for glamour? However, we come to the crucial factor - the product itself. Well, having used this mascara on a daily basis I find it very easy to apply, especially if you can be on the clumsy side with mascaras (which I might or might not sometimes be!). It makes lashes look thicker and longer, yet does not cause clumping or look fake or overly made up, thus is great for everyday wear. I find it also really opened up my eyes and I didn't have to wear too much other eye make up to make my eyes stand out. In addition it did not smudge at all for me!
Yet, surprisingly it is very easy to remove with any decent cleanser or eye make up remover and is long lasting and therefore there is no need for repeated reapplications during the day - great timesaver.
I can't think of any downsides really other than just the cost - sadly it does add up if you buy this regularly. I can't fault it.
I would strongly recommend this mascara and would buy it again during bonus time! :)
Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is part of the Estee Lauder Double Wear range which includes concealer, foundation, eye liner and more. This is the only product I have from the double wear range and I think that if all the other double wear products work as well as this mascara, the range is brilliant!
First of all this product can be bought at large Boots stores, Selfridges & other department store with Estee Lauder counters. The price is around £17.50 which is the price on the official Estee Lauder website. You can probably also find it on discount cosmetic stores online and as the price is high I would look around for the best price.
The mascara tube is long and thin and is dark blue. The tube has the Estee Lauder sign and next to it Double Wear is boldly printed in gold. Under that it says Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara also in gold. It's written again underneath in another language. at the top of the tube in a band of gold and the lid with the wand on is also gold. The brush on the wand is long and thin so when you are applying it to your lashes, none of your single lashes don't get covered in mascara.
The mascara states it is Lengthening and Zero-smudge and I do agree. When I used it on my eyelashes, I did see a large difference from when I used my Rimmel mascara. A little volume was added when using it which is a bonus as it is mainly for lengthening. My lashes didn't clump at all so I was very pleased as when using my other mascaras, there was always at least one clump! I found it didn't smudge at all like claimed, and it was still very easy to wash off just using warm water.
Overall I think although the price is high, it is still worth it as I thought no clumps didn't exist!! Also because it does everything claimed and the only disadvantage is the price.
