Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
by Kirsty_89
DESCRIPTION
This is a pressed powder from Rimmel. The product is available in a wide variety of shades and claims to provide 5 hours worth of shine control and to help minimize the appearance of pores. I must admit this is one of my all time favourite make up products, I use it very regularly and it's one of few products I own ... that actually lives up to its claims.
PACKAGING
The product is contained within a spherical case. The lid is made of see through plastic and the base is made of a pale sort of skin coloured plastic. On the lid is the name of the product and an indication that there is 14g of product. On the back the main piece of information to note when buying is the shade name, in my case "peach glow". There are then the standard details like ingredients and manufacturers address underneath the shade name. To open the product you simply click off the lid, it comes away pretty easily. Inside is a pressed powder in your chosen shade. There is a tin base to the powder to keep it fresh.
PRICE
The product is available in Superdrug for £3.99 at the moment.
PERFORMANCE
This product does exactly what it says it will. I apply the product after applying my foundation or BB cream these days and also sometimes just use it alone. It's essentially a finishing powder and so it doesn't really provide coverage but if I'm having a good skin day it helps make the skin look slightly better because it conceals open pores and definitely makes my face look less shiny.
Occasionally I will get an oily T-Zone and this product works wonders in creating the matt effect I am after with my make up. It's claim to last 5 hours is also a truthful one as most days I don't feel the need to top the product up at all, on hot days though you do need to reapply but it has always achieved the 5 hours it's stated from my experience. I don't have a lot of noticeable pores but I do have a few around the nose area, I always find this area looks less noticeable with this product.
I really love this product, it's a great price, easy to use, matches my skin tone (it's available in several shades) and helps me achieve a more natural looking face instead of a shiny one!
STAYING POWER
As mentioned above it's staying power is really good, it lasts the 5 hours it states and usually can handle more time.
OVERALL
Overall this product is fab! Always in my make up routine and always in my make up bag, lasts a long while both on the face and in terms of before you need to buy a new one. Love it! Read the complete review |

MAC Face and Body Foundation
by toffee12
Mac Face and Body is a good 'day time' foundation as provides light coverage and is comfortable to wear. With this being said, it is easy to build it up to a heavier coverage. Shopping for foundation has always been difficult but after being recommended this foundation by a make up artist I decided to get a sample at a MAC counter before ... purchasing. This is very useful- MAC is quite expensive compared to high street brands I did not want to waste money on a product I had not tried. The MAC representative I spoke to gave a good review on face and body and she herself was wearing it at the time! After using the sample for a few days, I bought the full size bottle online and it cost me around £26. While this seems expensive, the quantity given (120ml) will last a long time. A small bottle can also be purchased. In regards to foundation shades, there are quite a lot to choose from. This particular foundation doesn't follow the usual MAC NC/NW coding but that was easily solved as the MAC representative did a colour match for me. The colour she chose was identical to my skin and blended in beautifully.
The product and application
The consistency of F&B is quite runny- this makes applying it quite difficult. The foundation is water based and when applied it doesn't feel like it is clogging pores; it is lightweight and very comfortable to wear. It does have a faint smell but it is not over powering unlike other foundations I have tried. The application of F&B can be quite messy due to its consistency. I find the bets way to apply it is by dabbing the product onto the face and using a stippling brush to buff it into the skin. It would also be perfectly fine to use fingers to blend it in. The foundation gives a great dewy finish and it does not look like you have a heavy face of make up on. After application, I tend to set it with a pressed powder to ensure it lasts longer.
Summary
One of the reasons I was not happy with this product was due to it's lack of lasting power- I have combination-oily skin and this foundation can't be used without me blotting my face with powder every 4 hours. This is only made worse in the hot weather! All in all, it is a good product as it allows for a natural, dewy, daytime look. It's very light on the skin and for the the quantity you get, it is good value for money. While it may not work on my skin type, it is a firm favorite with friends whose skin type is more suited to it. Read the complete review |

17 BB Blemish Balm All in One
by crimsonjeanie
I bought this blemish balm from Boots about six months ago after my friend very enthusiastically recommended it. I have slightly oily skin which is prone to acne breakouts and is also a bit sensitive. For this reason I like to minimise the number of products I use on my face and am always on the look out for 'all in one' products and ... those specially formulated with problem skin in mind.
The 'balm' is essentially halfway between a tinted moisturiser and a foundation - it gives a little more coverage than the average tinted moisturiser but is lighter and less heavy than most cream foundations. It works well for me because I us it instead of moisturiser on the oilier, more blemish-prone parts of my face (forehead, nose and chin), and tinted moisturiser elsewhere. I then use my regular concealer over the top as required. I would definitely buy again as it serves a good purpose as a compromise between two different products - but if that's really all BB creams are about I'm not sure that they're worth all the fuss that's been made about them!
The one problem I have with the cream is the colour - I use the 'light' version and it is still significantly darker than my skin - and I'm not even that pale! It doesn't matter too much because the coverage is so light, but a better match would be great. On the plus side this product is extremely affordable and for this reason I'll stick with it rather than trying one of the more expensive brands. Read the complete review |
