Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation 25 Hour
by marymoose
---Intro---
I have been using various versions of Rimmel Foundation probably for about 15 years. On several occasions I have got quite attached to a specific type only to find them discontinuing it, and then having to try a new version. I hate it when that happens!
Foundation is probably the most important part of my ... relatively minimal makeup collection. Without it I feel naked, and it is extremely rare that I'll go out of the house without it on. I think it's more a psychological thing than anything else as I don't look THAT bad without it on, but I just feel awful!
Since I'm happy with this product I always make sure I never get to the end of a tube without having a new one ready to start! This means that now I'm living partly at mine and partly at my boyfriend's, that I need to have a tube in both places.
---The packaging---
There do seem to be two different versions of packaging for this product. Mine is not like dooyoo's picture (which I think might be the newer version), but it is definitely the 25 hour Lasting Finish foundation that I'm reviewing!
Mine comes in a smallish (30ml or 1 fl oz) black and clear plastic tube (a bit like a mini toothpaste), with a small hole in the top which means that not too much of the product comes out at once. It's really easy to use while there's plenty in it. Due to the clear bits of the tube you can actually see the colour of the foundation.
One downside of this foundation is that I find it can be quite difficult to get it out towards the end of the tube. That said though, it does still seem to last for ages even when it seems like there's barely anything left in it. Therefore I have plenty of warning to get a new one. Since I hate to waste any (although it's not expensive, it's not as cheap as some things), over the years I have ended up making some messes as a result of trying to get the last bits out, and ending with a load of it on my mirror, dressing table and carpet!
---Using the foundation---
After covering any spots and blemishes (I do this again after applying foundation) I squeeze some out of the tube onto my finger and then applying small blobs onto my nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. Then I work the foundation into my skin starting with the nose and working outwards. It has a slight scent to it, but nothing you really notice when wearing it every day (only when smelling for review purposes!), and it's fairly pleasant.
I find the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation easy to blend in with my pale skin, although having had a couple of experiences with spotting a few orangey patches when entering a room with mirror and bright light, I take special care to make sure it is all blended in, especially at the sides of my face and under my chin.
After using foundation I generally finish off my makeup with a bit of powder on top to avoid any potential shiny spots. As for the claims of lasting 25 hours...well I am rarely up for 25 hours, so will usually have removed my make up (this does come off well with a wipe at the end of the day) and applied new the next day before the 25 hours is up. However, I find that this does last well, and I would not generally reapply foundation in the same day, unless of course having a shower and then needing to do all makeup again before going out!
---Other stuff---
I don't know exactly how long one of these lasts me, but with everyday (and fairly generous I think) use it seems to last for ages, I'd say a good couple of months.
I use the Natural Ivory tone which fits well with my pale complexion and gives me a little bit of colour. This foundation also comes in shades such as Soft Beige and Sand, so you should be able to find something which matches your skin.
My tube contains a massive list of ingredients (so it would be worth checking if you have any skin sensitivities). It is also said to be sweat, heat and humidity proof, transfer resistant, and enriched with a revitalising Mineral Complex and moisturising Aqua Primer. Skin is meant to feel energised and hydrated all day. I'm not entirely convinced by this, however I am still happy with my skin when wearing this, and feel confident to face the world, and although I wouldn't say it leaves my skin flawless as it says on the packaging, it doesn't leave any flaws that people will notice!
---Finally---
I tend to buy my Rimmel foundation from eBay, generally paying between £4(ish) and £5.50 (including p & p). It often works out cheaper buying more than one at a time. Compared to a lot of foundations I think that this is an excellent price for a product which I find works well for me. I have been using this (or variations of) for years, and intend to continue doing so.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Foundation
by danktess
I purchased this foundation a few weeks ago now after reading many blogs stating that this foundation was a great choice! I decided to head on down to my local Boots and pick one up for myself to see what all the fuss was about.
My first point to make about this foundation is the price and availability of the product. At the ... time of purchasing this product conveniently there was a 3 for 2 offer in store meaning that I had a lovely lip gloss free of charge to add to my collection. The bottle is also a good average size and for the price tag of only £8.99 and a free lip gloss after purchasing my other item I thought this was great. On deciding which colour I wanted (which I will talk about a bit later on) there was none available in my shade. After speaking to one of the consultants she quite happily found me one that was stuffed away in the draws with hundreds of other products. After looking around over the last few weeks however, it is available in many other shops and supermarkets.
So on deciding that this was the foundation I was going to purchase, I then had the big decision of deciding what colour I needed. This for me is the part I hate most about buying makeup! Do you ever find that when you walk into a shop they never have the colour that matches your skin tone!? And it always comes out different even once you have decided. Anyways, after looking at all the shades I decided to go for a Soft Beige. I felt this colour suited me most as I have quite a medium skin tone and with summer coming I know my summer glow tan will soon be arriving. I was quite worried at picking this shade as it did look quite dark in the bottle. I hate being pale but being orange is even worse!
On getting this product home I could not wait to try it on the next morning for work! The first thing I noticed about this product is the smell. As soon as I pumped a little foundation onto the back of my hand the foundation had a lovely smell coming from it. This is very rare to get from a lot of foundations that I have used in the past. The next thing I noticed was how easily this applied to the skin. It was very delicate and light on my skin unlike many of my older foundations. Normally I go for a very matte foundation as I like them to have great all over coverage but this did exactly that but with a light feathery feel.
Once I had finished applying this I took a look in the mirror. It was very different to what I was used to as normally I do like quite a thick coverage but it did look great on! And I was very happy that I had managed to pick a colour that matched my skin tone perfectly. I only had to use one pump of this foundation to get all over coverage so I know that this foundation will be long lasting. The name of the product 'Wake Me Up Foundation' was definitely true to its word and it feels great! So far so good! My next test was to see how long this lasted. So off I went to work...
Unfortunately for me, this is the point that this particular foundation did let me down a bit. One thing for me working in London, is wanting my makeup to last all day so when I go out for drinks in the evening I don't have to worry about reapplying too much makeup. By the time my 8 hour work day was done at 5pm my foundation had decided to also say goodbye for the day. There was quite literally not a smidgen of foundation left on my face that was providing any coverage. I was very disappointed that this had not managed to last the day in comparison to other foundations that I have used in the past.
My overall thoughts on this foundation are that it smells great, feels great, has a great price tag and is a lovely product for the summer for that light texture however I imagine that when it gets very hot in those summer months it will wear off very quickly and unless you enjoy reapplying makeup during the day, it's not going to leave you with great coverage for those after work drinks or that special night out! Max Factor Second Skin Foundation
by dooberry77
I love trying different make up products and first tried this a couple of years ago and have been using it ever since. I find it is a foundation that I can use for both day and evening wear and during the winter months when my skin is a lighter colour in appearance I just add a little of my daily moisturiser to slightly lighten the ... colour and it matches perfectly. The Rimmel website shows that there are 5 different shades available and the one I am reviewing is Golden. (number 075)
The packaging.
The product comes in a clear glass bottle that is 30ml in size and has a see through plastic grey coloured ld. On the front of the bottle the Maxfactor logo is clearly visible with the product name' second skin foundation' underneath it. At the bottom is displays the actual shade. The back of the bottle tells you that it gives coverage that looks virtually undetectable, some contact information for the brand, the bottle size and the shelf life (12months) At the top of the bottle it has a black plastic dispensing pump to release the product.
The product.
The product itself is a golden beige coloured liquid with a nice consistency, not too thick and certainly not runny. To apply simply remove the plastic lid and gently press down on the pump to release the desired amount of product onto the back of your hand and apply to the face with the preferred application tool. (I use either a cosmetic sponge or a brush) making sure all the covered areas have been blended in to give even coverage.
The benefits.
- Available in 5 shades
- Produces even coverage that is virtually undetectable
- 12 month shelf life once opened
- Creates a natural look
- Uses clever multi-tonal pigment technology to smooth over and blend flawlessly into your own natural complexion in seconds.
Price and availability.
The product is widely available from most beauty stores, some supermarkets and on line and usually retails between 6 and £11.
Additional info.
The available shades from the range are creamy ivory, warm almond, natural, golden and bronze.
My verdict.
I love this foundation, it gives a good even coverage and does not look 'caked' like some foundations. I would recommend this and give it 5 stars. Read the complete review |
