“ Brand: Gosh / Type: Eyeshadows / Suitable for: Eye „
I received the Gosh trio eye shadow palette as part of a gift set for Christmas. I don't usually like Gosh because I find their products are a little too outrageous and colourful for me. I don't usually like eye shadow but I do like the idea of the "Smokey-eyed" effect. I feel it gives a classy but mysterious style, with just a tiny touch of sexiness. It makes your eyes appear much brighter.
The palette it small with a glass cover to see the three colours. With the set I have, it's a set which is used to make "smoky-eyes". It has a pale brown, a medium brown, and a dark green. You can see all three so you know which colours you are buying. In the set I got, I received a brush with two sides and a little book which tells you how to do the smoky eyed effect.
This can be used in three ways. You can use the darker colour to create a gothic look and apply it all over the lower part of the eye. Otherwise, you can use one of the lighter browns to use it as a single colour eye shadow although this can make your eyes appear flat. Nonetheless the colours are very pretty on their own. The pale brown gives a more natural look and works if you don't want to make it obvious you are wearing make-up without having flat eyes or making your eyes appear small. The third, and best way it can be used is all three colours to create the smoky eye.
This done by first applying the medium brown from the bottom of the eyelid right up to just before the eyebrow. Then, you place the darker brown on the bottom of the eyelid. The lighter colour can be placed medium way on the eyebrow. You are not supplied with a white, but it gives a nice effect to place it just under the brow. Then, apply some eyeliner inside your eyelash line and wear some mascara. Then, thanks to the expertise of Gosh, you have the smoky eyed effect.
The eye shadow came as apart of a £15 set along with eyeliner and a £13 primer. Therefore, it is around £1 worth. You don't get a lot with it, the eye shadow has a low depth so you don't get very much. The colours are very deep and appear vibrant on the eye. It enhances the brightness of the eye and it is a perfect fashion accessory. It is the only colour of eye shadow I use and I would only use Gosh. You are always ensured quality with Gosh so you always get your money's worth. Gosh proved they aren't used for wotsit-faced youths dancing about with bright yellow on their face, they can make you appear more fashionable and classy.
I bought this for no reason other than that I hadn't seen a colour like it an high street collection and wanted to try it out.
What it looks like on:
It's a shimmery shade of blue, and depending on how much you build up the shadow it'll appear lighter or darker. The colour from this range i am reviewing is 'AQUA'.
It's stated on the website as being a highly pigmented eyeshadow, and when i first got this i disagreed due to the fact you have to keep putting on more and can't get a lot of strong colour with one sweep on. I have added a swatch i applied on my wrist which shows what i mean more.
This was when i was unaware of the fact that it can also be used as a wet n dry shadow, meaning you add water to it and the colour appears stronger. I tested this out and thought it looked ok, but felt as though it'd wear off quicker.
I will mention that if i'd known it was so shimmery i don't think i would have wanted it, because i like matte looking shadows. I don't like the thought that if you rub your eyes it could turn into more of a mess- i know when you make mistakes shimmery shadows are a lot harder to fix. However, if you really like shimmery shadows this product would suit your needs well.
It's a powder based shadow and can be applied with your hands or with a brush/applicator. I use hands mainly because it's a lot more annoying to clean a brush with shimmer in it with one that's just got colour. Say you had a shadow with no glitter all you'd need to do is wipe the brush a few times with the applicator, with this however you'd need to run it under the tap and clean it with hand soap or brush cleaner to get all the shimmer out if you were to apply a shadow which didn't contain any.
Use it wet or dry
Whether i would agree: Yes, you can use it both ways although if you wanted to use it dry at a later time i recommend wetting the lids and then going over it with the shadow, as it may ruin the consistency of it.
Sprinkle free and long lasting lids
Whether i would agree: Yes, it is sprinkle free because it's all contained in one palette and isn't a loose shadow. It is a medium lasting shadow, but may last longer with a primer.
Easy to apply, slightly creamy consistency
Whether I would agree: It is the same as applying any other shadow so I would say it is easy to apply. Not easy to get off your hands however; you'd have to use a wipe to remove the shimmer. Same applies if you were to make a mistake, it wouldn't all come off with a tissue. Although that can be a good thing because it it did i wouldn't imagine it would last that long. It doesn't feel creamy but it does glide on quite well. I wouldn't say it gives a creamy appearance.
This retails for just under £6. The European GOSH site which covers UK doesn't appear to offer online shopping.
I am a girly girl. I love make-up and own absolutely loads of the stuff! As a trained beauty therapist I am a bit of a brand snob and appreciate quality and don't mind paying for it if I have to though don't get me wrong I do have an eye for a bargain!
Wandering through Superdrug on a recent shopping trip I decided to browse this range of make-up as I felt like having a major splurge on myself lol. I'm not all that familiar with it as a brand to be honest but these trio eyeshadows really stood out to me as each round pot of course housed 3 colours! In the end I couldn't decide which set to buy and I bought 5 different trio sets much to my mates bemusement and horror lol!
The eyeshadows come in a black plastic round case with a clear 'window' to the front of if and on that written plainly in black capital letters we are told simply that it is GOSH. On the back of the pot we are again told what it is, the colour and code of the colour combination is given, ingredients are listed and the size is stated which is 2g/0.1oz. The lid flips open from the base and you are met with three smooth looking eyeshadows which are split into three equal triangle shapes. Nice enough simple packaging this is and you do get rather alot of eyeshadow for your money though no applicator or mirror or anything like that is given...it's all product!
The one thing that is apparent with all 5 of my sets is that the three colours within each compact really do mix and match extremely well. You always get two colours that you can mix and match over your eyelids and then one far more subtle colour that is good to help with blending, defining and highlighting work.
The eyeshadows themselves are very rich in colour pigmentation. All are shimmery or contain a little glitter within them and I find them to apply really evenly and it's all about fuss free application with these because I find that although they are of course powder they cling well to the brushes I use allowing me to get a clean and clear, fresh look on my eyes without flaking anywhere they shouldn't!
They are smooth and don't go on too thick at all and of course you can blend away to your hearts content...your very much in control with these! Once on the eyes I find that even without primer or any extra faffing about that they stay put on eyelids and in a none agitating way all day long and stay put without no transfer and stay looking as fresh as when your first applied them!
I love these, I love the colour combinations too that they are offered in! Some are more party atmospheric colours but don't be instantly off put by that statement they do, do some of these trios directed at more daytime and subtle looks if thats what you fancy!
I think these offer excellent value for money and are of fabulous quality so much so I told all my mates about these! I've updated my make up bag with fabby make up that will last me ages!
I have only personally seen this range available in Superdrug though if interested do have a look online and expect to pay about £7.50 per trio compact.
After being very impressed with the GOSH effect powder, I thought I would give some of their other products a go. One of the first things to catch my eye was the GOSH trio eyeshadow. Lovely packaging and bright designs, the eyeshadow looks fantastic. But, having been disappointed by products which are 'all mouth and no trousers' before, I cautiously invested in this eyeshadow.
GOSH is a cosmetics company from Denmark which originally started trading in 1945. However, after a marked rebranding just over 25 years ago, GOSH in its current guise was born. On sale in over 66 countries, GOSH boasts a 'broad product range which provides the consumer with the option to find precisely the product that matches their individual styles and interests.' Also, GOSH do not test on animals with any of their products. Sounds good, but does it deliver?
GOSH trio eyeshadow comes in a cute black compact which is just under 2 and a half inches wide and just over half an inch tall. The base and the top are made from black plastic with the middle section and the top made from clear plastic. The top is a matt black, and inside is a shiny finish. On the top is GOSH written in a black font.
From the clear front, you can see the 3 different colours which are split into thirds. This means the colour shows through the top, and sides. The different colours are divided by black plastic sections, preventing the colours from blurring together. On the base is an ingredients list and the size of the product at 36m. No brush is supplied with the compact.
Overall the compact looks stylish and much more expensive than its £7 price tag.
So it looks sexy, but does it deliver? Well, in short, yes! I brought the Metallic rose trio which had a glittery pearlescent white, glittery gunmetal silver and glittery rose pink. All in all, a distinctly separate selection, but together actually makes a lovely effect.
The eyeshadow leaves a strong yet light colour, and blends very well into the lid. Also, the eyeshadow is long lasting. I have found the colour to last long into the day after applying in the morning. Just need a little refresh in the evening before going out!
Currently, GOSH have four different selections available in the trio packs;
- TR4 Metallic Rose
- TR1 Fudge (White, gold and brown)
- TR2 Smoky (Dark brown, Mocha and light brown)
- TR3 Water Lily (Yellow, Green and lilac)
All four styles use a pearl pigment for effect and can be used to create a gentle 'smudge' effect, or a stronger, thicker colour.
Where to buy?
I buy my GOSH products from superdrug, but I have yet to find any other stockists on the high street (please email me if you have!) Otherwise, GOSH can be brought on ebay, or online at www.goshamerica.com, or http://www.gosh.dk/
I really like these trio eyecolours. They look fantastic, the product is strong and long lasting and overall, they are good value for money at around £7 for three colours. However, it would be nice to see a wider selection of colours from GOSH in the trio selection as is seen in the single and duo eyeshadows. Oh, and a little compact brush would be handy!
Finally, a tip from the GOSH website;
- For even more lasting wear use GOSH waterproof eyeshadow as a base.
