~A high price to pay for creating that glamorous eyes look!~
Having tried a number of eye liner products I have found that very often brand stature and price alone are not always a deciding factor as to whether a product does what it should when you want it to, which I feel is the case with the reduced price Guerlain Eye Liner Pencil that I purchased. I feel after having had experience of both using and wearing the product on my skin, that although I was happy enough with my bargain buy at the price I paid, had I paid the full retail price for the liner pencil, then I would have felt a little less happy with my purchase.
The full cost of a Guerlain liner pencil can be as much as £16 which or course means you are paying way over the normal mid range price for a similar product. When I bought my liner pencil it was half price, making it a much more attractive buy at the time, that I felt put it's sale price more in line with the kind of money you might expect to pay for a wide range of well known high street branded products that perhaps don't have the cache that couture branded products do.
~Using the product~
In use the liner pencil has a fairly creamy texture to it that works quite well when applied to the eye line, with a nice even layer being easy to achieve with a little practice. The lighter the touch used, the lighter the layer that is left, which I found produced less claggy and heavy the effects when using the product on the skin around the eye area. The shade I bought was a modern smokey blue grey which I hoped would look good with a light smokey eye effect make up and in use this did produce some pleasing results at times. There is a bonus in that you get an eye liner pencil sharpener with the pencil which works as it should and is simple enough to use and keep clean between uses.
I found that the liner pencil was easy to sharpen up when wanting to create a sleeker smoother detailed look, yet it could still be used when slightly more blunt at the tip (between sharpening times so as not to waste too much) to create softer smudged look, without loosing too much colour and depth. When using the liner pencil this way I didn't find that there was any dragging or heavy pressure required on the skin that was needed to allow enough colour to be placed where it was directed.
When choosing the shade of the product I have to admit that I was rather led by the cut price, as it seemed like a good buy when compared to similar a full priced product in another similar colour way. I feel that the colour I picked was a useful one for certain make up looks, which may not be to everyones tastes, although there are of course a number of other shades to choose from should you prefer another shade or want to create a more dramatic/ more subtle look.
~Summary and rating~
Over all I found this to be a fairly good product which I feel is expensive at full price. At the reduced price I paid I was happy enough with the product and would buy from the range again at a similar cost. As far as staying times on the skin of the eye area goes, I found that this quite often depended on how thickly I applied the product, as well as which other eye products/ shadows etc that I used alongside it in order to create the final look. The liner pencil is presented in a fairly basic way which is perhaps to be expected with this type of make up product, although for the label conscious buyer there was still the Guerlain branded detailing to be clearly seen.
I don't feel that the high price of the product was all that justified although as mentioned there was a sharpener included which was a bonus. The product did work well enough and produced some pleasing effects but at almost £16 for the full priced product I feel you are paying over the odds for it which is why I am going to give it a 3 star product rating at full price and 4 stars should you be lucky enough to be able to buy at a reduced price, which makes the pencil much better value.
Summary: A nice product that is a little over priced
