WHAT IS IT?
A loose mattifying powder by Guerlain.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
I've used hundreds of powders in both my personal and professional life and this is by far the best. It's a mineral based powder that comes with a soft black puff for application, the powder is very fine and feels soft and lightweight as you apply it. Les Voilettes can be used either alone or over foundation, the most important thing is to choose the shade closest to your natural skin tone as this will enable you to blend it seamlessly for a flawless finish.
There are six shades available and each have differing tones so it should be easy to get a good match, I'm using the Beige Clair shade and this one seems to be the shade that would suit most women as it's more neutral than the others. You need to only use a very fine dabbing of powder to achieve the matte, smooth finish promised by Guerlain and it does take a bit of knack to begin with, especially if you're the kind of woman who is used to applying foundation and no powder. Apply the powder thinly and build up the finish rather than applying too much in the first place, a too thick layer of powder can be extremely ageing while a thin layer makes you appear more youthful, it's a fine line.
The powder gives my skin a smooth and extra matte finish, the importance of choosing the correct shade becomes apparent after you've finished applying your make up as the colour blends with not only your own skin tone but also the shade of your eyebrows and lips. You can easily apply this powder as your only make up that day, as long as it's blended well you don't need to wear lipstick or eye make up as the powder is almost invisible. For the natural look I usually apply Les Voilettes followed by a very subtle peach lip gloss and minimal mascara, this makes it look like I'm naturally beautiful and well groomed when really it's the effect of the powder that's causing this illusion. As long as you don't bog down the powder with other products too much such as blush or facial spritz it will last for a while even in warm sweaty weather, it's almost like it becomes a second skin for the time you're wearing it as you don't have to worry about your make up becoming patchy or transferring.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
This powder is a joy. It comes in several different shades; a pinkish one which goes on the skin so subtly it just leaves most people glowing with a healthy looking skin, the pearly one which I use, which is still pinky but a little more suited to my skin tone (half-Chinese skin needs some real work finding colours that fit!), a translucent one and so forth. The powder is the most finely milled I've come across, and unlike others I've used (Elizabeth Arden, Lancome), not at all drying; I'm not sure why this is. Once it's on, you don't know it's there; you just look dewy and light is diffused beautifully all over your face. One of the best things about this powder is the smell. Being a Guerlain product, they've gone to some effort with it; it has the most divine violet smell, and really cheers me up when I put on my makeup in the morning. I usually don't need to touch up my powder until after lunch when I've used this in the morning. Les Violettes' staying power is fantastic. I suspect this is because the powder is so exceptionally fine. This also means you use less, which is great. The powder puff supplied is a very nice one, and washes well. Last of all, it comes in a really lovely container. It's a really touchy-feely low round gold pod, with the interlocking Gs embossed on the top. It looks great on your dressing table. I love this stuff. It's a joy to use.
