Review of Guerlain Ombre Eclat 4 Shades Eyeshadow
I was fortunate enough to win a cosmetic hamper in an online competition earlier this year and was pleased to find that my prize included several full sized products from premium ranges. This eye shadow palette was part of the prize.
**The Eye Shadow Palette**
The rectangular palette contains four eye shadows and two sponge applicators. The hinged lid is fitted with a mirror and the whole palette has a classy and sturdy look and feel to it.
My palette is basically brown tones, a deep matt brown, a pinkish brown, a sandy shade and a creamy/beige colour. Having looked on line for information regarding price and so on, I see that this range has several variations of colours from greys, blues, greens and browns. I had to provide details of my age, colouring and so on when I won the hamper, I think I was given the ideal combination to match the information I provided.
The eye shadows are the compressed powder type, they are very silky to the touch and are easy to apply and blend. The eye shadows are mixed finishes, pearlised, matt and sparkly making it simple to achieve a variety of looks.
I am pleased with two of the shades, the deep brown and the cream, but sadly the other two do not really suit me. The sand colour is just too yellow for my complexion and the pinky/brown is too sparkly. I am not particularly fond of sparkly or pearlised eye shadows these days as I am finding as my skin ages, this type of eye shadow seems to accentuate the fine lines on the skin of my eye lids.
The applicators are pretty good; one has a slightly chiselled end which is excellent for creating bold strokes and lines. The second applicator is a fairly bog standard type which works well, my only complaint regarding the applicators is that they are rather short in length.
The eye shadows are very long lasting and they colour your eyelids with no creasing or smudging. The colour can be built up in layers for a more intense look or worn in a single coat for a subtle finish.
Guerlain's eye shadows are easy to remove with either eye make-up remover or facial wipes.
My on line research into the cost of this eye shadow palette rather shocked me. I was well aware that Guerlain is a premium range, but finding that this eye shadow palette costs £42.50 on amazon was startling! I am sure that there are other stockists who sell it for less so I would advise would be purchasers to shop around.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
This is a lovely eye shadow collection and the two colours that I actually use in the palette are very good indeed, however now I am aware of the price, I can honestly say that I would never pay this for an item of make up as I simply could not justify the extravagance. Of course as mentioned, I did not actually purchase this as it was part of a prize.
If readers have a higher budget than I do to spend on cosmetics, then this eye shadow is very good quality and it is a luxurious product. I have never suffered from any sensitivity when using this eye shadow and the non-creasing durability is a definite plus point in my opinion, that said, when this has been used up, I will not be replacing it due to the cost.
I am awarding Guerlain Ombre Eclat 4 Shades Eyeshadow a 4* rating, dropping a star for the high price tag
Thank you for reading.
