I first came across the 'I love...' range last year. I went through a phase of buying all of the different products and then I kind of lost interest. I'd completely forgotten how much I loved their lip balms until I discovered one in one of my make-up bags buried under some vaseline tins, and I decided to stock up on some more after seeing that the 'I love..' lip balms are still available from Superdrug. This range of lip balms is available in a variety of sweet and fruity scents including mango & papaya, raspberry & blackberry and lots more. As these lip balms are so cheap at just 99 pence each, I decided to get one of every 'flavour' and the one that I am reviewing today is the coconut and cream version.
This is described as having a tropical cocktail of sweet coconut and velvety cream aromas. It comes in an adorable miniature lip balm pot which holds 15ml of product. The pot is circular and made of very sturdy plastic. The pot is small and compact, with a secure lid meaning it can fit in my handbag and be used when I'm out and about - it's a nice alternative to Vaseline. The pot is transparent meaning that the creamy off-white lip balm can be seen. In my opinion this isn't a particullary appealing colour, although obviously the colour reflects the scent. I like that the pot is transparent as it is easy to tell which flavour is which, eg the pink one is strawberry flavour and so on. The pot has a black lid which twists off easily and on top of the lid in white writing it says the brand and product name.
The lengthy list of ingredients can be found on the bottom of the pot - it has a sticker next to the barcode which says 'peel' and when peeled off it shows the ingredients of the product. The lip balm is full of obscure, chemical sounding ingredients, although due to the price I wasn't expecting a natural, organic product so I am not complaining! The lip balm, once open, has a very strong and noticeable smell which is very sweet and fruity. It does smell of coconuts, but it's not a very natural smell at all and I think that a lot of people would find the scent a little sickly, however I personally like it. It also has a reasonably pleasant taste to it - sweet with a slight waxy after taste. The balm has , waxy, shiny appearence and it is smooth in texture.
The lip balm is easy to apply and a little goes a long way. As this lip balm comes in a pot there is obviously no other way to apply it than dipping my finger in and then rubbing it onto my lips, which I am aware may be a bit of an issue for anyone with hygiene issues who prefer tubed lip balms. The lip balm is lightweight with a thin consistency and it smoothes over my lips evenly, leaving a lovely subtle gloss behind. There's no greasiness or residue and despite the lip balm being white, it doesn't make my lips go white! My lips look moist and healthy after applying this as well as feeling soft and smooth. Re-application is quite often as the moisturising effect isn't quite as long lasting as vaseline or chapstick. This can be worn on its own as a subtle gloss or it can be used as a lipstick base as it's moisturising and it provides a smooth base making application easier resulting in the lipstick looking nicer as any cracks or lines in the lips are smoothened out by the lip balm.
Overall, I give this lip balm 4/5 stars. It's cheap, smells nice and it is effective at moisturising and softening my lips, although it does need re-applying more regulary than a majority of my other lip balms.
I think one of the most important things to do this time of year apart from wrapping up warm is to look after your lips. My lips get dry rather easily and I always have a lip balm with me. I love to try new products so also on the look out for items I haven't tried yet!
I Love Coconut & Cream Glossy Lip Balm:
'Smooth me onto your lips, leaving them feeling soft, moisturised and ultimately kissable'
This was in a set I received as a birthday present I adore the smell of coconuts so was really happy when I saw this little beauty. I have recent reviewed items of the same fragrance from this brand, and well up until now I wasn't really blown away so to speak.
The I Love range is very similar to the likes of Treacle Moon and NSpa, NSpa being one of my favourite brands ever! The Love also has its own tag line again just like similar products on the market.
'Escape to paradise; an exotic explosion as my tropical cocktail of sweet coconut and velvety cream aromas leave you drifting away to your very own idyllic beach hideaway!'
Well I don't know if I escaped to paradise but this sure is a nice lip balm. The fragrance is on the strong side which I personally enjoy. As when you add gloss to your lips the scent seems to fade away. So stronger then better for me when it comes to balms and glosses.
When looking at the balm it look all white in colour when all together in the tub however when applying to my lips it rubs on clear, leaving a gorgeous shimmery shine. The balm is very smooth and simply glides over my lips with ease.
The also tastes like coconuts but with hints of other nuts too, and as I love nuts I rather enjoyed the taste. I just had to tell myself to stop licking my lips! Once the balm has sat on my lips for an hour or so you can tell when it is wearing off so frequent application is needed. I don't really find that as a problem as it only takes seconds to reply away.
My lips feel rather nourished and soft when using this product. If at work I normally apply over lipstick as it creates a lovely soft shimmer effect. As I found lipsticks have a drying effect on my lips this works well to stop that.
This balm comes in a small round tub with a twist off lid, you have to scoop a little of the contents out on your finger to apply to your lips. I personally favor the squeeze tub ones, which they have brought out in a gloss version as its less messy and you don't get any of the product stuck under you finger nails.
This range comes in many different flavour fragrances,
Strawberries & Milkshake
Mango & Papaya
Raspberry & Blackberry
Vanilla & Ice Cream
Chocolate & Oranges
Lemons & Limes
You can buy matching items also - Shower Gel/Bubble Bath, Hand cream, Lip Gloss, Body Butter, Soap, Shower Smoothie and Body lotion.
Price and Availability:
You can purchase this product from Superdrug costing only 99p per mini tub. Again this is excellent value for money as it last well due to only needing small amounts at a time.
Overall this is a nice product that does help with dryness in these winter days, however it contains no SPF so unsuitable in the sun. I would recommend this product as I do actually rather like it, its great for going over lipstick or just to create and lip shimmer on nude lips.
Four out of five stars form me
