      No 7 Intelligent Colour Foundation

I first came across Boots' No 7 Intelligent Colour Foundation in 2006 when I bought No 7 products totalling over £15 and got a lovely free gift of a cosmetics case with various trial size No 7 products and a couple of full size products too. Of the trial size products was a small tube of No 7 Intelligent Colour Foundation. I thought nothing of it at first and didn't try it out until some months later. I was feeling rather bored with wearing face powder every day and wanted to try some foundation again. I had decided not to use my trusted Revlon anymore as my husband said it made it look very "plastic" - not a nice thing to hear!

The trial size tube was about 6ml, small enough not to be bothered by if I tried it and didn't like it and large enough to use it a few times if I did like it. I needn't have worried as this is definitely a product that is going to have pride of place in my make up case over many years to come!

Squeezing some of the foundation out of the tube, I noted it had a typical foundation feel on my fingertips, nothing special at this stage. I dotted it over my face and then started to blend it in with my fingertips. Here is where I noticed the difference from other foundations I have used in the past. It glided on like pure silk, what an amazing texture it had as I massaged it into my skin. It felt so soft and silky that I almost forgot it was a foundation and would have just kept rubbing it into my face for ages! I had the "medium" shade which considering I am Indian and have brown skin, I would have thought a darker shade of this foundation would have been more my colour. BUT no, this shade seemed just right. I looked in the mirror and was impressed with the fact that it didn't even look like I had foundation on. I have a few blemishes on my face but they seemed to be well hidden under this magical new foundation (well it was new for me)!

I asked my husband how my makeup looked and he asked if I had any on (that's not an insult by the way, he much prefers me without face powder or foundation in general). He was surprised when I said I had just applied a coat of foundation. He said that it looked really natural and nothing like the old foundation I often wore when we first met over 5 years ago which he really hated! So with my husband's approval (not that that is actually an essential factor when it comes to my makeup items) we went out for the evening. A few friends complimented me during the evening saying my skin looked really clear and what was I using? They thought I had applied some light bronzer to give my face a flattering glow but not a shiny "sweaty" glow!

The real test for this foundation came when I looked at the photos taken during the evening. In the past no matter what foundation I've worn the tell tale signs are evident in photos. I either look too pasty or darker or fairer than my real complexion. "The proof is in the pudding" as they say (not quite sure why as I'm not talking about puddings) but reviewing photos taken when out of an evening and wearing this foundation I saw that my face did not even look as if I had worn foundation and on top of that it had a nice glow to it - not a perspiration glow if that's what you're thinking but a nice glow as if I'd been out in the sun for just the right amount of time! That was me totally convinced that I was going to be buying the full size foundation.

On my next trip to Boots, I picked up a tube of No 7 Intelligent Colour Foundation - medium shade which cost me £13 which is a pretty fair price for a decent foundation I thought - on top of that it was buy two No 7 items and get a third one for free, so I bought a foundation for £13, face powder for £10 and got another free face powder.

Boots themselves say of their foundation: "Ever so clever colour... take away the guesswork with a foundation that adjusts to match the colour of your skin for a sheer, natural finish. Velvety soft, easily blended and so amazingly light you'll forget it's even there." I have to admit that I can't argue with anything in that statement - this foundation delivers exactly what the advertising blurb promises and for me that is a rare find with cosmetics.

The foundation actually has SPF (sun protection factor) 6 with vitamins A & E to look after your skin. It doesn't block your pores - can honestly say that when wearing this foundation I really do forget that I'm wearing it. It is also hypo-allergenic with no fragrance. They also recommend that you ensure your skin is moisturised before applying the foundation which is a helpful tip.

No7 Intelligent Colour Foundation is available in three shades:

      01 Light
      02 Medium
      03 Dark

Simple as that, it's so clever that it adjusts itself to your skin colour so you don't need to have 20 different shades with fancy names! Just light, medium and dark, simple as 1, 2, 3!

I've worn this to work and it's lasted the whole day without signs of disappearing and unlike many foundations I've used, there are no tell tale signs when you touch your face and then wipe a tissue (as is common with many foundations you can see the evidence of the foundation)! It is easily removed with any makeup remover or facial wipes and doesn't leave your skin feeling dry afterwards which is a bonus!

I'm going to throw caution to the wind here and give No7 Intelligent Colour Foundation a 10 out of 10 for performance! As far as I'm concerned it really is very intelligent - it "does what it says on the box"! It's light enough to wear during the day and gives you enough coverage to wear out confidently in the evening!

NB: So far I've only found this product available in 30ml sizes for £13, it is only available for Boots as No 7 is their own brand product. There are often deals on with the N0 7 range so you could, in effect, get 3 for the price of 2 or get a goody bag with No 7 products when you spend over a certain amount (usually £15).

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I am a great fan of no 7 products as I think they offer great value for money. I first tried no 7 intelligent foundation a few years ago when it first arrived on the shelf in my local Boots. I have never used any other foundation since.

        The Product
        ***********
Boots intelligent foundation is part of the no 7 range of make up and skin care sold exclusively by Boots. It is packaged in a stylish black box with gold writing that gives it an expensive feel. The tube of foundation contained within comes in a black plastic tube with a twist of lid.

Unlike other foundations this one only comes in 3 shades, light, medium and dark. You will need to try some on your hand to see which one will suit your skin colour. I was surprised to find I needed the light shade although I consider myself to have quite a dark skin. Now for the intelligent bit, although there are only 3 shades available this foundation claims that these 3 shades are in fact the equivalent to 9 or more shades. The idea is that the foundation will adapt to your skin tone. This foundation also contains vitamin A and E, which helps to protect and condition your skin; it has an SPF of 6, which won’t offer you much protection in the summer so you will need to apply another sunblock. Boots claim that this foundation will not block your pores.

This foundation is not tested on animals and is hypo-allergenic and fragrance free. For 40 ml you will pay£12.50 at present in Boots, which is the only place it is available. At the moment it is on a 3 for 2 offer and if you spend £15 on no 7 you will receive 500 points on your boots card, which is worth £5.

        The verdict
        ***********

I love this foundation and would recommend it without hesitation. It is really easy to apply and has a lovely silky feeling. I was very sceptical about the claims of colour matching to your skin but it really does work! This foundation is very light but seems to give my skin a healthy glow. This product was the winner of new woman best new cosmetic award and I can see why! Give it a try and I bet you won’t be disappointed.
