“ Brand: Japonesque / Type: Lipgloss / Subcategory: Conditioner / Suitable for: Lip „
I wonder who sat and thought about the well known structure of a cotton bud and realised the empty tube could be used as a vessel for numerous types of beauty products? Someone at Japonesque took this to an extreme, I have three products by them but have since found many more, but for the purpose of this review I will be taking the lip conditioner into consideration.
What is it?
The liquid product sits in the tube of a cotton bud and you snap one end (marked with a ring) and hold it upright to let gravity work and air displace the product whilst it floods the other end of the cotton tip.
This is easy to use, easy to snap and wait around a minute before the product is saturated on the tip and ready to use. It says it is tinted but it is not really obviously so on the lips. It is really quite greasy or oily when you first apply but it soon sinks in.
I think this is a great idea, particularly for travel but what I don't like is how much product is wasted as you only use a tiny bit on your lips before discarding the rest. I reckon you use less than 10% so from that perspective it is pretty wasteful. And it's not like you can pass it around for others to use as that wouldn't be very hygenic! The product works well moisturising lips, and sinks in fast but I think it makes my lips extra 'thirsty' as I could easily crack open another tube an hour later which is not very economical.
Price and availability
You get 24 tubes in a box, which is quite compact and ideal for transporting around. The downside is availability of this. It used to be available at Boots a few months ago but I've noticed they are since missing from their webpage. You can buy these on Amazon but they tend to come from abroad so you get a bit stung on the postage. The price varies but they are around £5 which is a bit steep considering how much you chuck away. I got mine in a beauty box from Latest in Beauty.
Top marks for the ingenuity of this product. I have also got the eye make up remover touch up buds, and a nail varnish remover touch up which I hope to review in the near future. I have also seen cuticle oils in these and eyebrow prep solution (before you pluck) so the range is vast. As for the lip conditioner, I wouldn't want to use them all the time but would be happy to travel with them and keep in my bag for on the go. The only downside is the wastage and I don't know if it's the weather but the length of time my lips go before needing moisturising again.
