A 2-in-1 make up product that did not meet my needs

As a member of Glossy Box each month I receive a selection of beauty products; some of which are trail sized and others of the full size version. Contained inside one of my recent boxes was a 2-in1 Eyeliner and Shadow from the brand Jelly Pong Pong. I had only been made aware of the brand from one of my previous boxes where I received their Fairy Lashes mascara. I must admit that it is not a brand that appeals to me due to their excessive price tags especially when I can purchase far superior products at a significantly lower price. However, I was keen to try out the product with this review discussing my experience.

It was the appearance of the 2-in1 Eyeliner and Shadow that I found a little off-putting especially as it is rather chunky similar to that of a white board marker. As a result, I didn't for one minute believe that I would be able to accurately apply a line to my eyes. I discovered that the product is available in a number of shades and as my choice of colours are normally browns and gold I was disappointed to discover that a plum shade had been provided to me.

The lid is easily removed to reveal a stumpy pencil, which is extremely thick when making a comparison with my normal slim and slender product. Whilst Jelly Pong Pong market this product as a shadow, I did not attempt to use it to cover my eye lid, particularly as creamy shadows simply slide off despite the fact that I initially use a primer and as a consequence, I opt for powders. I found the chunky pencil a little difficult to hold, which subsequently prevented me from obtaining a comfortable and firm grip.

However, applying the colour to the edge of my eye lids was easier than I had anticipated especially as the pencil is soft and creamy although I found that the tip wore down extremely quickly and required sharpening after only a couple of uses. I found that as the pencil is so soft, I needed to sharpen it quite a few times before I was able to obtain a sufficiently shaped nib for application. Consequently, the pencil wore down extremely quickly.

The effect of the line of colour on my eye lid was pretty good although the plum colour is really not for me. Whilst I always apply my eye liner to the waterline, I found this method totally impossible when using this product due to the fat tip and the only way I could use it in this area was by applying a line below the lower lashes.

On a positive note, due to the softness of the pencil, it can easily be both smudged and blended without transforming me into Coco the clown. Whilst the concept of a 2-in-1 product is a good idea, it simply did not meet my needs especially as it was necessary for me to change my method of application. I found longevity pretty poor, as within a couple of hours following application, the line underneath my lashes began to appear a little wispy in patches.

I nearly had a fit when I looked on the Jelly Pong Pong website for the price as this 2-in-2 Eyeliner and Shadow crayon will set you back £10.50. Due to the reasons discussed above, I can award only one star and no recommendation.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Not one I'll be revisiting in a hurry

I was a little bit disappointed when I received this in my Glossybox. I love multi tasking products that save time but the colour plum is not one I nomally reach for when doing my eyes. to be fair it is on the brown side of plum but for me, it is more of a lipstick colour.

        What is it?
This product is a two in one eyeliner and eyeshadow. It is soft and very easy to smudge on the lids. It is a pencil that you sharpen (I do prefer the automatic twist products better) which I know is going to be a problem when I have to find the right sized pencil sharpener as it's too big for a normal pencil sharpener yet smaller than the 'chunky' larger sized sharpener you can get. Sigh.

        In use
This is very easy to use and I suspect I would have got on a lot better with the black shade as this is the colour I normally use as an eye liner. Out of curiosity, I tried it on my lips and found that the colour plum made a far better lip liner and you could colour in the lips if you wanted a long lasting lip shade too. Unfortunately, lip liner is not something I really use (although I used to!) so it won't become a staple in my make up kit.

        My thoughts
Awkward size, awkward colour... need I say more? I'd be curious to try the other shades in this range, even the bronze would be better on my eyes! I think this will probably end up in the bin as it's not a colour I think is very flattering on the eyes.

        The brand
Jelly pong pong are quite a fun brand and I've tried their lip frosting too which looked great but I didn't really like how sticky it was so that one ended up being given away! I've yet to find something in their range that I love.

        Price
I've just looked up the price as I got mine in a beauty box... these retail at £10.50 which I think is a bit on the dear side for what they are!

        Final thoughts
Whilst I wouldn't mind trying the black, I think once it comes to sharpening this pencil I will probably lose my patience. It would be far better as an automatic pencil style. The plum colour is not particularly flattering on eyes and I had to use a lot for it to be slightly noticible on the eye area. Not for me.

        Great 2 in 1 product

After reading so many positive reviews, I recently treated myself to a glossybox subscription. My first glossybox arrived and amongst the goodies inside was this 2 in 1 eyeshadow and eyeliner in Black. It is also available to buy for £10.50 from Jelly Pong Pong stockists and is available in 4 shades - black, plum, bronze and steel.

Jelly Pong Pong are against animal testing and none of the products contain animal byproducts. They say that employees, friends, family and fans of the brand do all the testing. The products also don't contain sulfates, pthalates, triclosan, ammonia or alcohol.

This eyeshadow/eyeliner looks like a chunky colouring in pencil, but this chunkiness does make it easy to use. I find black too dark to use as eyeshadow, but I do like the effect I get when I use this as an eyeliner. The crayon is very soft and doesn't drag along my eyelids and it also blends and smudges easily, if you want to achieve the smoky eye look. It also lasts all day, although I do struggle slightly to remove it at night!

I am quite a novice when it comes to eyeliner and I tend to use a liquid eyeliner, but this is so easy to apply and use that I will be a convert to this 2 in 1 and I'll be investigating other colours. It is slightly more expensive than my usual eyeliner, but the versatility and the results make this a winning buy for me.
