Advantages: sheer colour looks nice once on the lips
Disadvantages: doesn't last very well, only comes in one colour, messy to apply, overpriced
I got a tube of Jelly Pong Pong Lip Frosting a few months ago in a beauty box. I was aware of the Jelly Pong Pong brand as I had spotted some of their soaps in a little gift shop, but this was the first product of theirs that I had tried.
At first I thought that this was a coloured lip balm, however the tube states that it is a cream lip gloss which can also be dabbed onto the cheeks for a hint of colour. Jelly Pong Pong say that it has a sheer cherry colour and the product is scented 'like a scrumptious dessert'. My tube is actually called 'Irish Cream Pavlova' and this is the only flavour that shows on the website so I'm assuming that there is only one option available.
The tube this comes in is quite large for a lip gloss, at 15ml. I am a little unsure of the design of the tube - it comes in a peach and white striped tube and it has a sort of silhouette design on it, although I am a loss to work out exactly what it is a silhouette of. I think the overall look of the tube is messy and I think it looks quite cheap.
I think I tried this once or twice when I first received it, but have only got round to using it more regularly over the past couple of weeks. I had a bit of an accident which took some skin off my lip (ouch!) and it has left the colour of my lips uneven which looks bizarre to say the least. I searched through my make-up stash looking for something which would help even the colouring out and felt this would be perfect.
I apply the lip frosting directly from the tube, which is a process I have found to be quite messy. The opening of the tube is not slanted like many similar products and I think it would be much easier to apply a little to a lip brush and then brush it on, as doing it my way can end up with a little excess that has to be wiped off, but what can I say I don't like to make life easy for myself!
It is fair to say that the colour of the product is a fairly alarming bright pink shade, definitely not something I would have chosen for myself. Once on, I do find the shade much more pleasing - it gives a sheer pink glow and there is a subtle shimmer to the product which gives the lips a lovely sheen. I should note that my natural lip colour is quite dark, so those of you with a paler lip tone may find this a little too strong, colour wise.
Once on my lips the product doesn't feel heavy at all and I don't find it particularly sticky, but I can feel that I am wearing it and it does give me the urge to press my lips together frequently. The gloss has a sweet scent to it - it reminds me of Love Heart sweets - but I don't really think it has much of a taste to it.
The staying power of the product is OK, but as with most glosses it is not great. I am tempted to say that it lasts around an hour, providing I don't eat or drink. Unfortunately eating or drinking spell the end of this gloss and it has to be re-applied which is an irritation, but quite frankly to be expected with this sort of product.
Although the product packaging states that this can be used as a cheek colour, I had not tried it that way until tonight, when I applied a dab to my cheeks for the purpose of this review. It rubbed onto my skin quite easily, although the pink tone looked incredibly bright on my cheeks. There was no way I would have left the house with my face that colour, despite blending as much as possible! What was worse though was the way it felt on my skin. It felt as though I had a plastic coating on my cheeks. It was an awful feeling and I only lasted around five minutes before I could no longer bear it and I ended up wiping it off with a face wipe!
This gloss costs £10 and can be purchased from www.jellypongpong.com. I have never seen this for sale anywhere else, although as mentioned I have seen this brand in independent gift shops. I do feel that £10 is quite high for this product. It works quite well as a lip gloss, but it is messy to apply and doesn't last well, so I feel there care cheaper products out there that do the same thing and most likely come in a choice of colours.
Overall I think this is an OK product, but I would not go out of my way to purchase another tube. The colour looks nice on the lips and it doesn't feel heavy or sticky, but it doesn't last too well, is messy to apply and overpriced for what it is.
Summary: OK but could be better
