Jemma Kidd Lipstick Duo (Shade: 10 Ella)
I bought this product on a whim from eBay a couple of weeks ago and it looked really nice. I have never tried any Jemma Kidd make up products before so I was interested in trying this out - as I have heard really good things about Jemma Kidd products, such as the brushes and highlighters.
- About the product
The lipstick duo comes in a really nicely designed box and it also comes with a leaflet, which I have not read and have no intention to, and it is in the shade Ella (10). The lipstick is on one end of the tube and the balm is on the other, which I think is a good idea and really convenient, especially for travelling. The first thing that I noticed about this lipstick duo is that the amount of actual lipstick/balm you get is minute! You only get a tiny amount of both the lipstick and the balm, which is a complete rip off as this duo is the same price as a MAC lipstick and there is only about a quarters worth of product, when compared to a regular mac lipstick.
The shade I bought is Ella (10) which sounds and it is, but the shade depicted online was quite lighter and more pinky than it actually is which again was quite disappointing. The shade is a deep reddish brown, which is definitely not suitable for this time of year - unless used lightly or as a stain, which is what I intended to use this product as. The lipstick is incredibly pigmented which is fantastic, I think, and it looks really quite similar to Revlon's black cherry lipstick in the tube - which is yet another lipstick on my fairly long make up wish list! Overall, the shade gets a 3/5 from me.
Firstly, the balm side of the lipstick duo, the balm is a milky colour but it is colourless when on the lips. It is supposed to be like a primer and it is also supposed to plump up the lips. In terms of priming/smoothing the lips, this balm does a fantastic job but in terms of plumping/tingling it does absolutely nothing! There is no tingly sensation experienced at all when I use this balm and it definitely does not plump up my lips at all. Overall, the balm is good as an ordinary lip balm but not for plumping and then I apply the lipstick. I dab on the lipstick gently/lightly onto my lips and even with the slightest touch the lipstick is very pigmented on my lips, which I think would be great if you really like the shade - but I am not too happy with the shade as it is fairly dark. The shade is really pigmented and it is really patchy too, it is ok is blend but it is incredibly patchy on my lips. The lipstick also emphasises dryness, even though I used the balm side of this duo first, the lipstick clings to the slightest bit of dryness on my lips. The shade when apply incredibly lightly to the lips looks ok, it looks like a deep berry stain but I am not too impressed with the shade or with the patchy application. Overall, the application gets a 1/5 from me (but the balm is nice as an ordinary lip balm).
- Results and longevity
The results are ok and the lipstick looks fairly nice and I think it would look nicer in the autumn and winter months but it looks nice when applied very lightly as a stain. The results are ok but the longevity is not. Even when the balm has been applied underneath the lipstick, the lipstick transfers really easily - even when I have only used the tiniest amount of lipstick. The lipstick lasts on my lips for about 2/ maybe 3 hours when eating/drinking and I think it would last a couple of hours longer if I didn't.
- Price and availability
I bought this lipstick duo (new in box) from eBay and I paid less than £3 for it, with postage which is fantastic, as I definitely would not have paid any more for this now that I know how awful it is. The price of this lipstick duo, full price, is £13 which I think is far too overpriced especially as it is awful in my opinion - although I think with a nicer shade I would be a little bit more positive about this product.
*Very cheap from eBay
*Would be great for travelling as it is a duo and it is compact/light weight
*Balm is fairly smoothing on the lips
*Lipstick is incredibly pigmented (which may be a positive for some and a negative for others)
*Lipstick applies very patchy
*Lipstick emphasises dryness - even though I used the balm beforehand
*The balm does not tingle or plump my lips at all
*Not the easiest lipstick to blend
*You get a tiny amount of product which is definitely not worth the £13 it is full price
*Ok to poor longevity (depending on if you drink/eat while wearing this lipstick)
Thank you for reading my rant...I mean review! :)
