I received a bottle of Jessica Critical Care as part of a birthday gift a few years ago and the bottle is still going strong despite many uses. As it is a treatment for soft nails that is quite expensive, I save it for when my nails are weak and in between the bad times I use my Nails Inc base and top coat which is my favourite brand.
What is it?
The Jessica Critical Care is a treatment for soft, weak and peeling nails that take forever to grow. Jessica's Critical Care isa powerful growth booster with intense Calcium Strengtheners that build a strong nail foundation to resist peeling, chipping and splitting. This unique formula sets a new standard for boosting growth and strength of severely weakened nails. Protein KSW combines a unique complex of Hydrolized Keratin, Soy and Wheat Proteins which penetrate the nail and increases keratinization, creating a protective barrier to allow for maximum growth.
You can't find a simpler nail product to use than this and I use it on its own as a protector and also with other nail polishes if I want a flash of colour. Generally when my nails get weak I don't paint them as they break off and look rubbish so I am desperate at this stage to give them a treatment that will help them grow. The polish is quite thin and runny in the bottle and is clear and it goes on to the nail with a slight sheen like a clear nail polish. It stays tacky for a few minutes but as it is clear you can't really mess it up if you start doing things a little too soon. I usually reapply every day as it is a thin layer, you can build it up with no problems over the course of a week.
I like this treatment, it makes me feel like something is being done when my nails sometimes weaken but it's not perfect, if the nails are peeling, they still peel even with this on so it's not a miracle treatment but it does help me to stop picking at my nails and then if they are going to break, they probably still will but hopefully not because I am messing with them. My most negative comment about this product is the strong smell of it. All nail varnishes smell but some more than others and this has a really awful toxic smell to it which remains on your nail for a while after applying. It's not unbearable but worth using in a well ventilated room with the window open if possible too!
My bottle was purchased as a gift from a friend who is a regular beauty salon visitor so I think she bought it on one of her pampering sessions for me as Jessica is a salon brand. You can also buy this product on Amazon for £15.60 which sounds a lot but it is one of those brands that doesn't come cheap.
Whilst I use this as I have it in my collection, I don't think it provides amazing results so would not rush out to buy another bottle to replace it when it's gone. I would try the equivalent from Nails Inc I think which would be a similar price but from a brand I really know and love. At the rate I am using up this bottle it's probably going to last me another couple of years which is certainly a plus for Jessica as in the years I have been using this it hasn't dried up or even crusted around the opening so whilst I have gone over the product life as recommended on the bottle (it has worn a bit but I think I can make out 24 months) it is still working well.
