Quickies nail polish remover pads
I bought these nail polish remover pads at the end of july as I wanted a nail polish remover that I could take with me on holiday, so these looked perfect as they are small/compact and easy to carry around but I was wrong...
- About the product
The nail polish remover pads come in a small circular container that has a screw top lid. there are 20 pads in the container and they are all circular, white in colour and they are soaked in nail polish remover. It contains bitrex, a bitter chemical used in many household goods, it is harmless to use. And this product does have a best before date and the nail polish remover contains vitamin B5.
The pads come in a circular container which is bright pink in colour, which I think makes it look really cheap (although, it was really cheap). Apart from the really cheap appearance of the packaging I actually really like the container that the pads come in - as it feels really strong and durable and the screw top lid tightens really well so that the pads inside will not dry out - the ones I have haven't dried out in the three months or so I have had them.
I do not like the scent of nail polish remover, I doubt anyone does, as it is a really toxic, chemical and really unpleasant smell. But these pads do not smell horrible at all, they nail polish remover pads actually smell quite nice, although you probably shouldn't keep smelling them. The scent is quite sweet and fruity - this is quite a surprise as I have never used or heard of a nail polish remover smelling nice!
- Using the product and results
The pads are quite small but they are a good size to be able to hold onto my nail. The material that the pads are made out of is really quite soft and smooth on my nails and the pads/nail polish remover does not feel harsh or damaging on my skin or nails. What I usually do when removing nail polish is: I take a cotton pad or in this case a remover pad and I hold it against my nail for about ten seconds or so, as I find this loosens the nail polish layer and it makes it so much easier to come off - I then swipe the pad off my nail and usually this method takes of nearly all of the nail polish off in one go, so I don't have to keep rubbing at my nails to remove the polish.
I tried the method stated above with these pads and it did not work at all - I tried to use these on holiday and I actually could not get the two thin coats of nail polish I had on off. I tried the hold and swipe method and I also just tried rubbing at my nail with the pad but neither method worked! These nail polish remover pads don't remove any nail polish, even if it is just two thin coats and even if the nail polish is really chipped and wearing away. You will be better off scratching the nail polish off yourself than use these, as in my opinion and from my experience of using them with a few type of nail polish, they do not work!
The only nail polish these pads have been able to remove is when I used my ciate 'my fair lady' nail polish and it was only one thin coat - but other than this one, they have not been able to remove my nail polish at all. I think these would only be good if you use a very small amount of nail polish and also if you make a mistake with your nail polish when it is wet.
I also find that during and after using these pads, they make my skin and my nails look and feel really greasy and oily - so these would not be good to use on the go unless you have access to running water, to wash off the greay/oily residue from the pads.
- Overall positives
The overall positives in my opinion are as follows: the pads come in a small compact container, the pads do not dry out quickly, the scent of the nail polish remover is actually quite pleasant (it is fruity and sweet) and the pads were cheap.
- Overall negatives
The overall negatives in my opinion are as follows: The pads only remove one thin coat of nail polish, anything more than this and you will not be able to remove the nail polish with these pads. The pads leave a really greasy/oily residue on my skin and nail during and after using them, so they would not really be good for on the go, as you will need to wash your hands well after using them.
I bought this small container of pads from superdrug and they are now priced at £1.99 at superdrug. The brand quickies also makes eye make up remover pads but after the terrible performance of these I would not be inclined to buy them.
*Smells really quite pleasant
*Pads do not dry out quickly
*Only removes one thin coat of polish - anything more and these will not remove it at all
*Greasy/oily residue on my skin and nails after using the pads - so they are not so great to use on the go
Thank you for reading my review x
Summary: I will not be buying this product again :(
