“ Brand: Guerlain / Type: Makeup / Suitable for: Lip / What it does: Lifts, „
This is another one of my impulse Guerlain purchases from a few months back. I am a bit of a fool for a marketing ploy and just loved the design and information behind this product enough to splash the cash and buy one.
This product is a primer for lips. It is designed to condition and smooth lips and provide a great base for lipstick. Now...I don't really wear lipstick very often but I do love a lip tint or colour cream and am a bit of a sucker for lip salves and balms.
The product comes in a lovely gold metal tube with a fancy cube designed lid. The product looks plush and expensive and very subtly displays the name of the brand at the bottom of the tube. It has a winding applicator with a stick primer which is slanted to allow instant application to your lips. It is a handy travel size and perfect to slip into your handbag. I love the glamour of it looking like a lipstick without being a lipstick. There is something so classic about a woman applying a lipstick but unfortunately because I don't wear lipstick often I can't really indulge myself. This certainly gives me the opportunity to.
I really love using a primer before I apply my makeup so I had high hopes that this lip primer might provide the same kind of effects for my lips. I do worry when I use lip colours or lipsticks that they bleed and make my application look rather too clumsy - especially when you are out and can't check it. I was hoping this product might provide me with the peace of mind to not have to keep flipping open my compact to check the state of my lips. The application of the product is fine, it goes on smoothly with very little hassle and forms a base on my lips which you can then apply lipstick on top of. It is designed to have a plumping effect but I didn't really see much difference, nor did it actually make any difference to the normal effect of applying a colour to my lips. I still felt uneasy and I didn't really think the product did much to protect my lip colour from bleeding.
The product retails at £19 but can be found cheaper online and in certain shops. My advice though is not to bother. I wasn't very impressed by it, I felt it could have done a lot more for me and my lasting impression is that of disappointment I'm afraid.
So, overall? don't bother.
I have owned the Guerlain KissKiss Lip Lift Primer for at least six months now and I must say that it is a real must in my make-up box. The reason that I bought the primer is to help make my lipstick and lip glosses last longer, hopefully without the need to reapply during my working day or an evening out.
Firstly I will say that the packaging as always with guerlain products is very nice and expensive looking, it looks just like a small gold version of the guerlain kiss kiss lipstick.
The primer itself is flesh coloured and looks just like a lipstick, you apply it exactly the same way as a lip stick and then you apply your lipstick or lip gloss over the top.
I find that when I have applied it to my lips and then applied my lip stick over the top my lips look like they are in very good condition which is great for me as I do suffer from dry lips, I think it does moisturise my lips slightly but not as well as if I am wearing a lip salve.
As for the promise to plump my lips I don't think that I really notice much difference to be honest.
Overall I have found that when using the lip primer my lip stick or lip gloss does last considerably longer and my lips do look much better than when I simply apply lip stick on its own.
I am a massive lip balm fiend and can't imagine not having some sort of balm, gloss or colour on my lips and wear something on them every day.
I like the kiss kiss range of lip products from Guarlain and have the lip stick and gloss both of which I love. I was talked in to buying this lip primer from a friend who swore by it and she swore that it would help keep whatever product I chose to put on my lips from fading and coming off on glasses etc.
Unfortunately none of the Guerlain stockists in my town actually had the lip lift so I was forced to buy online and ended up buying one from ebay for £15. Because I can't find it in any shops I have no idea how much it actually costs but I would hazard a guess in the region of around £20 to £25.
When it arrived I was really pleased to see that it had the same gorgeous packaging as the rest of the kiss kiss range and it looks really expensive and classy in its gold coloured container. It looks just like a lipstick tube but is a little smaller than my other Guerlain lip sticks were.
Upon opening the lip lift I was a little unsure as it appeared to have a slight colour to it and I was worried that this would compete with whatever colour that I decided to put on my lips.
Once I slicked some on it actually gave me some colour but it was a nude colour so I wasn't worried that it was going to show through the colour I put on top.
It went on nicely but it was missing the rich creamy texture of the other kiss kiss products and it was no more moisturising on my lips than a cheap chap stick would have been. It actually just felt sort of heavy and not really nice to be honest.
When I decided to try some of the kiss kiss lip stick on that I keep for special occasions I thought that the lip stick didn't glide on as smooth as it usually does and instead it seemed drag a little.
I find that the kiss kiss lipstick has a really good longevity just on its own and I can usually rely on it to last a good few hours before needing to reapply. With this underneath it the lipstick was loking clumpy and just not very nice before an hour had passed and to look you would think I had on the cheapest lipstick I could find instead of a more premium product.
The same happened with cheaper lip colour but instead of taking an hour to look messy it just went on that way.
Needless to say I wasn't happy with how it performed but it does have a redeeming feature and that is that it works much better with gloss than it does with lip stick. With the gloss the primer seems to hold it in place and it does last about twice as long as normal before I need to reapply. As I wear gloss much more often than lip stick I was pleased with this but because It was so difficult to get a hold of and quite expensive there is no way I would bother trying to hunt one down as it isn't nearly good enough to warrant this.
This is probably the first Guerlain product that I haven't absolutely loved and there are much better lip primers on the market so I would save your money and go to boots and buy a cheaper one.
WHAT IS IT?
A primer product especially designed for the lips. It is shaped to be applied directly from the tube like any standard lipstick and not only claims to condition and smooth the skin on my lips, but also prepares the area for the lipstick I am eventually going to apply on top.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
It's not bad. I was excited when I first saw this product on the Guerlain counter as I'm a big fan of facial primers so was hoping this would do the same thing in relation to keeping my make up looking immaculate all day. It drags slightly on application but absorbs quickly and immediately forms a layer on my lips to smooth and mattify the skin. The primer is ready to have lipstick applied over it 2 - 3 minutes application and it's when you apply your choice of shade that you notice the plumping effect that it has.
Unfortunately the softening and plumping only lasts for the time you are actually wearing the primer. Once you've removed your make up the condition of your lips will be more or less back to how it was before you used it, there's a lingering sense of rehydration but by the next morning at the latest even this has gone.
The primer does make a difference to how your lipstick behaves, the L'Oreal lipstick I used with it most recently lasted for at least an extra hour before I needed to reapply and the colour looked far smoother than when I wear it on naked lips.
CONSUMER INTEREST INFORMATION
This Guerlain lip primer costs £19 when purchased direct from them, you may find a bargain on Ebay but it's unlikely as Guerlain products seem to hold their value better than other brands, especially the items sold as brand new.

KissKiss Lip Lift Primer
As i have said in my previous review about Guerlain KissKiss lipstick my husband bought me a lovely gift bag with a few Guerlain products in it for my christmas 2010. In the bag was a few freebies testers a small glass pot of eye shadow and a Guerlain kisskiss lip lift primer.
Guerlain kisskiss lip lift primer costs around £15.00 and can be bought from John lewis, Debenhams and online cheap from the likes of Ebay and Amazon uk.
Guerlain kisskiss lip lift primer comes in a gold coloured lipstick tube and measures about three inches tall. It had a slim gold tube with a cube shaped lid and the Guerlain words engraved on the base. It looks posh and expensive.
Lip lift primer is meant to be put on top of the lipstick you are wearing and it seals in the colour making it last longer throughout the day or night so you wont have to top up the lippy again. It is also to help smooth out any imperfections on your lips and heal dry cracked lips.
The Guerlain kisskiss lip lift has a lovely creamy smooth texture to it and can certainly feel it when applying it onto my lips. It is enriched with vitamins and minerals too. There is absolutely no smell at all to this product.
I was not really that excited about this product because i use the Guerlain kisskiss lipstick which also has all those quality's i have named above and the kisskiss lipstick i use is a close shade to my own lips so doesn't mater when it wears off for me and my lips are fine due to the same moisturising quality's that are in the lipstick.
I was quiet disappointed with the lip lift primer because for me it did nothing in fact it gave me a tingle on my lips everytime i tried to use it, tingle was more like pins and needles very strange.
I passed this product onto my sister to try and she also feels its pointless and she did wear it over her lippy and did have to reapply it as normal so it did not lock in the lipstick for her.
I wouldn't recommend this one.
Unlike other reviewers, I didn't get KissKiss Lip Lift Primer to enable me to wear dark lipsticks, or really to make my lipsticks last longer. I was recommended this product as I have very dry lips and so when I put lipstick on my bare lips, it clings to the chewed/dry bits and accentuates them. I also found lipsticks tended to dry my lips out and thus make them even worse.
A friend recommended the KissKiss primer and I've used it for the last 3 years (although I've just bought the MAC prep and prime to try as it is 1/3 or more cheaper!).
The packaging looks very luxurious, being a square gold tube, but it does feel a bit 1980s. The primer goes on easily from the tube - unlike other reviewers I've not had problems with that. I just applied a thin coat of it, like a lipstick, then immediately applied my lipstick.
I do recommend using a brush to apply lipstick ontop of this primer, as otherwise you can transfer some of the pale wax from your lips onto your lipstick itself.
It has a waxy feel and a distinct scent, but the scent is mild and not overpowering at all. Compared to a product like the MAC prep and prime it is far thicker and more obvious on your lips, and so if you wear light coats of lipstick, I think it does make them look a bit paler.
I felt it did give my lips a better surface for wearing lipstick although if they were very dry they would still look a bit lumpy. I also felt it does give lipstick some more sticking power, so it lasts a bit longer.
You have to be careful when you use it not to press it on too hard on a very hot day - then you can end up with more on your lips than you need. I used it travelling abroad and it still worked fine, I just found it was easy to accidentally use more product than I needed.
~A little about the product~
When I tried out Guerlain Kiss Kiss Lip Gloss a while ago, I also noticed there was a Lip Primer from the same range that seemed to be an attractive idea for a lip care product. After looking at the product thought it may be a useful thing to have for wear under the many bright coloured lip sticks I have that seem to be lurking in my make up stash unloved and unused. As these brighter shades seem to be notoriously bad for bleeding into the skin over the course of time as these lipsticks are worn, I hoped that the Guerlain Kiss Kiss Lip Lift Primer would be able to work its magic and solve the problem, allowing me to use normal more brightly coloured lipsticks instead of the stay fast types that I tend to buy when buying brighter shades instead.
The idea of buying a product like this is that it will enable you to wear brighter lipsticks and/ or more glossy shades with less bleeding into the skin, thus creating a longer wear time in the process. Using the lip primer may also help to smooth over any small imperfections on the surface of your lips, making your lipstick sit on the lips for longer in a more natural and even way. This should in theory mean you need to devote less attention to topping up your lippy throughout the day to ensure your lips stick stays put, leaving your make up looking more polished for longer.
~Product presentation and ease of use~
The presentation of the Guerlain Kiss Kiss Lip Lift Primer is lovely, as the case that it comes in is very nicely made and is finished to a good standard. The signature shape of the lipstick case is very smart and stylish and I rather like the gold toned effect my case has, as it gives a luxury look and feel to the product. I found the case was well made and was also easy to use and I had no problems operating the primer case when applying the product to my lips. As the product is not a cheap one to buy at £20 plus, I certainly expected it to function well and I was not let down by it at all in that respect. I found that the primer was of a texture that was easy to apply to my lips when I used it and although I wouldn't say that it ironed out every imperfection in its path it seemed to go on smoothly enough if I applied it lightly.
The real proof of the product is in how well it allows a lipstick to perform when applied over the top of it and that was a rather a let down in terms of how long the primer held off any bleeding through of brightly coloured lipsticks. I found that even though I applied the primer as directed the staying power of my lipsticks was not greatly improved at all, although I did feel that they looked nice and smooth they didn't seem to stay put for much longer than they would have done without using this product. I found that highly disappointing considering the amount of money paid to purchase the product in the first place and I didn't find that there was any lip plumping at all when I used the product, which was something I was told I may experience.
~Summary and rating~
Having used the Guerlain lip primer I feel it seems too expensive for the results it gave and as such I don't feel that I would want to purchase it again at this point in time. I liked the way the product was packed as it really did look like a top notch lip care product, but looks alone are not enough for a product such as this one, how it performs is paramount. The texture of the primer was quite good, being neither too thick or too thin and it was easy to apply with very little fuss or bother. However this was not enough to merit the high price the product sells for as its performance once a lipstick was applied on top was less good than I hoped it would be and it failed to extend the life of my lipsticks by much at all.
I found that my lipstick still came off as much as when I was not wearing the primer on cups and glasses when I drank from them, bright lipstick shades still bled into the skin over time and colours needed topping up just as much as usual. I hoped for far better than this and expected a similar result as that I get from some of the stay put lipsticks I own, which manage to stay on for ages even without a primer. As far as rating the product I feel it ought to get just 2 stars as it failed to impress based on its price and performance which is what mattered most. A smart and sleek lipstick case alone is not enough to make we want to buy this again sadly.
The best way to describe Guerlain's Kiss Kiss Lip Lift Primer is a lip undercoat. In the same way you might use a base coat of nail polish before the colour, to fill ridges and prepare your nail, Kiss Kiss Lip Lift Primer promises to highlight the shape of your lips, moisturise them, and provide a good base to your usual lipstick, without changing the colour.
I've seen it for a few prices - I purchased mine for £17 from an authorised vendor at my workplace, but I've seen it around £22 also.
The product is presented in a gold coloured case, with two 'cubes' on the top and then a smooth squared off base. The lip primer itself is a beige colour.
All you need to do is twist it up like a normal lipstick and apply it before applying your lipstick. Sounds simple enough. My lips didn't feel plumped up or look more defined - they looked much the same, actually, and even before applying my usual colour, I was wondering 'have I wasted £17 here?'
The answer is, yes. I applied my lip liner and colour as usual, and saw no difference whatsoever. My lips were no more supple, defined or softer than usual and my lipstick didn't last any longer either. I think if you want soft lips there are plenty of better moisturisers out there (I cannot recommend Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour series enough) and if you want lip colour longevity there are lots of topcoats (like LipLock) or long lasting lipstics (Max Factor do a good one). This product seems to try and bridge a gap that just isn't there, and it fails to make any impact whatsoever.
It simply isn't worth the money and it isn't worth the extra time in the bathroom applying it. It looks nice, but for the money you could buy a few cheaper products or one good lipstick - either way, I can't recommend this.
I must admit I have developed a little bit of an obsession with Guerlain products and do try and pick them up if I see them around cheap on eBay or on beauty forums I frequent. I like having an expensive make up brand in my make up bag. I guess I am a little bit shallow.
I came across this Kiss Kiss Lip Lift Primer on a forum when someone was having a clear out and seeling bits. I was told that it cost £18.00 new but it had never been used and I could have it for £9.00 but it didn't have the box which sounded like a bargain to me.
The Kiss Kiss Lip Lift Primer from Guerlain has been made to smooth and reshape the lips and also to lock in your lipstick so you don't have to reapply it too often during the day. It apparently uses the creamy texture of the primer to seal the oils in the lipstick which then makes it last longer.
The first thing about this product that I really like is its packaging. It is a glamourous slim tube in gold with a embossed gap in the middle which seperates the lid from the rest of the tube. It has Guerlain in the fancy font of the company at the bottom. However, though I like the look of the packaging, I was disappointed once I had it in my hand as it is actually just plastic. I really thought it would be some type of solid metal but then it is one of the cheaper Guerlain products so maybe I was expecting a little bit too much.
When you twist the primer so that it comes up, it looks like a creamy coloured piece of wax. Now to use this, you have to apply it to your lips first. It comes off a bit of a yellow/white colour. You then apply your lipstick over the top. When I am wearing this underneath my lipstick, I do find my lips feel quite thick and I feel like I have a "trout pout" going on even though I haven't! I also find my lips feel sticky to touch. Saying that though, I do believe it works as my lipstick lasts alot longer - probably doubling from 2 hours to 4 hours.
I was a little bit disappointed with this product as although I didn't pay full price for it I expected more from it being such an expensive brand. I was disappointed to feel like I had huge lips that we thick and heavy. I think the Collection 2000 colour lock primer is alot better than this and that is only £2.99.
Not really recommended unless you can find it cheap. I give this product 2 out of 5 stars and that is just for the packaging.
Although I don't necessarily think that a lip primer is a must have item, they are definately useful - especially for those who don't have a lot of spare time throughout the day to keep reapplying their lipstick / gloss.
After many years of using MAC's 'Prep + Prime Lip', I was feeling decadent one day and decided to head to the Guerlain counter to check out their 'Kiss Kiss Lip Lift'.
Guerlain 'Kiss Kiss Lip Lift' is designed to design, smooth and reshape the lips leaving them 'perfectly prepared for lasting lipstick hold'. It uses 'dehydrated microspheres' that replump on contact with the lips natural moistures leaving them 'as soft as silk' with 'clearly defined contours'.
The supple, creamy texture is designed to adhere to the lips trapping the oils in lipsticks to create long lasting colour.
This product is packaged in a slim, gold, shiny tube (as shown in the picture). Although it looks somewhat exquisite it is actually quite lightweight with a slight 'plasticy' texture. If I didn't like Guerlain as a brand and hadn't heard good things about the product inside, the packaging may have put me off a little. I prefer simple, sleeker packaging but that's just personal opinion :)
It retails for just under £18.00 and is available from all large Guerlain counters - usually found inside deparment stores such as Harvey Nichols / House Of Fraser etc. There are also a few select websites that stock this product.
The primer itself has a cream-wax texture and is a pale pink-yellow shade, much like concealer. Once applied the colour is much more muted than it appears in the stick. A light coat ever so slightly neutralises the colour of your lips whilst a few, thicker coats will mute your natural pigmentation significantly. Although some are put off by this, I personally like it as I hav very dark lips naturally that cause some lipsticks too apply much deeper than they appear in the tube.
It has a strong sherbert / violet scent that althought it doesn't really bother me, some may dislike.
Although Guerlain market this product as 'creamy', I find it a little harder than most primers. I cannot apply straight from the tube as it can build up in patches, so I usually use a clean fingertip or lip brush to blend the primer along the lips and ever so slightly over the lip line too. You can then go ahead and apply your lip products of choice on top :)
On the days I choose to use this product I do find that my lipstick lasts a lot longer, I probably have to reapply every 3 hours instead of every 1.5 or so, however it does cause the lips to feel slightly 'heavier' and 'thicker' than usual and a little stickier than without. For that reason alone I prefer MAC's 'Prep + Prime Lip' and I will probably begin to repurchase that once I've used up all the Guerlain... Which shouldn't be long as you don't get much and it's used up quickly!
Overall, it works well as a primer but doesn't have the best texture. Although I like that it mutes my natural lip colour slightly I don't think I will buy it again as I do not like the way it makes my lips feel. I also do not think it is very cost effective, but it's Guerlain so I didn't really expect it to be!
In my opinion there are better, cheaper and nicer lip primers out there so test a few out before splashing out on this one :)
