A great gentle lipgloss ideal for moisturising the lips

Recently my lips have been fairly dry and a tad sore. I normally get dry lips in the cold weather and vast amounts of Vaseline normally keeps that moisturised but as they had been ok this winter my constant application of Vaseline had somewhat reduced and since the sudden increase in temperatures my lips have become dry. Now I didn't want to keep using Vaseline, I wanted to find another product capable of moisturising my lips whilst being light - I didn't want something heavy but I wanted a lovely glossy sheen finish.

I didn't intentionally search for a product but whilst I was browsing on an online make up store I came across the L'Oreal section (you can pick up a few good bargains!) and came across the "Bare Naturale Gentle Lip Conditioner" range which was vastly reduced but of course in limited shades. I do like L'Oreal products and tend to find them of good quality so I didn't have any worries about putting one of the little lip conditioners in my virtual basket amongst other things!

After doing a little research on the product (it is no longer made by L'Oreal, therefore it isn't stocked in store) I found that it was L'oreal's purest lip care combined with being a mineral colour all rolled into one. L'Oreal claim it is made up of 96% natural origin and has been specifically formulated to moisturise lips with the natural luminous minerals. The key ingredients designed to keep your lips nourished are sweet almond oil and Vitamin E which are both known for the moisturising properties as well as being gentle.

The nourishing lip sheen comes in an array of natural tones which is nice as most of them suit all skin tones making it easy to pick a shade (even better as you can only purchase over the internet!). The shade I opted for was Soft Petal which is a lovely natural colour with a slight peach hue to it with an almost gentle metallic aspect to it. A perfect shade giving a very natural look. The lip gloss itself comes in a very small tube which is exactly like a normal sized lip gloss tube. It is clear so you can see the shade of the liquid. Packaging is completely simple - going for the more natural look! The applicator is not a brush but more the tip of the applicator - made of a soft clear rubber type material you just glide it onto the lips.

Now my first and only problem with this was getting the moisturising lip gloss actually out of the tube. It doesn't come with instructions and the tube itself is solid plastic so you cannot squeeze the gloss out of it. After a while I figured that the little triangular arrows just below the applicator were not just for effect! It simply means that you twist the tube round a few times and out comes the gloss. You need to do this every time you want to apply the lip gloss, you only need to twist the tube round several times to get a decent amount of gloss which gives a lovely natural coverage.

After finally being able to apply the lip gloss I found that it is incredibly lightweight, almost to the point that you don't realise that you actually have any on. It gives a lovely sheer finish to the lips with an ever so subtle hint of colour. However sheer the finish it still gives a lovely natural look on the lips making it suitable for wearing at any time of the day. I generally apply just after I have applied my make up in the morning and then throughout the day in replacement of Vaseline. As much as I am loyal to my tin of Vaseline in the warmer weather I just find it too heavy and almost oily and this is much lighter and more delicate just what is needed for the warmer temperatures.

Because it is quite a thin, delicate gloss it won't last for hours and hours and I do find myself applying it quite regularly but this is probably because my lips are quite dry and it needs applying more as it is being quickly absorbed but I have noticed since I started using it about a month ago I am applying it a lot less throughout the day and it is lasting for at least two hours but it doesn't last well if you are drinking or eating but I think that is simply down to the consistency as it isn't particularly thick. It all depends on whether you like your lip gloss to have major staying power or you don't mind applying on a more regular basis. Personally, it doesn't bother me.

I have been using this for around a month and I have to say my lips are certainly not as dry or sore as they were but it has taken a little longer for them to become supple as it would with Vaseline so its powers of moisturisation are not as great as I think L'Oreal would have liked but it is a handy little item which is small enough to go everywhere with you. It provides a lovely sheer finish which is incredibly light and it is easy to apply so I can't really moan about it as it has done the job whilst providing a gorgeous natural coverage and colour all at the same time! Overall, definitely something worth trying as it won't break the bank but I will only award it 4 stars simply because of the issues stated above.
